00:00This guy shot and killed her with an AK-47, wounded her boyfriend, Darian Simon.

00:07He's 27.

00:09He was shot in the buttocks and the leg.

00:13It turns out this guy took the rifle from a Denver cop, a friend of his.

00:18Oh, my God.

00:19And the cop didn't know that he had taken the rifle.

00:23How does that happen?

00:24Hey, man, why are you walking funny?

00:27Yeah, exactly.

00:27How does this cop buddy not know that he took a right?

00:33I don't understand that.

00:34Is that my AK-47 you have?

00:35There's a muzzle hanging out of your pants, my friend.

00:38And by the way, the AK-47 was the cop's personal gun.

00:42Not many, I don't think any, U.S. police departments use AK-47s.

01:04Well, this guy fired off 24 shots at the couple as they walked their dog, and this guy was yelling at them to clean up after your dog.

01:14Because the dog had done its business in a rock garden outside of his apartment.

01:22And he was yelling, are you going to train that bleeping dog or just yell at it?

01:28What are you laughing at?

01:29I mean, everybody has a neighbor like this.

01:31Oh, the guy shot, don't laugh, Froggy.

01:33And then he opened fire, killed the young woman, and then wounded Simon, the boyfriend.

01:40Then he gets in a car and flees from his house.

01:43And then later on, he was arrested later that day in Jefferson County in the Denver area.

01:52Cops, you know, obviously a big bullet now for this guy.

01:54They finally, they found him, they pulled him over.

01:56And he's facing 22 criminal counts in the shooting, including first-degree murder of the young woman.

02:03And the court ordered a mental health evaluation.

02:08And he is pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

02:12He's going after the insanity defense.

02:14But the mother of the young woman killed says this is insane, it's disgusting.

02:19That's what he's saying.

02:20That he knew right from wrong.

02:22This guy needs to go away forever.

02:24Yeah, I'm not buying the whole insanity defense here.

02:28And Chelsea Thompson, the girlfriend of the guy that opened fire and killed the young woman and wounded the boyfriend,

02:37told cops that he did admit opening fire on two people, told police that he was not mentally stable,

02:46and hadn't been the entire time that she knew him.

02:49Oh, that's great.

02:50So your boyfriend is out of his freaking mind, and he's your boyfriend.

02:53He's mentally unstable.

02:54That's wonderful.

02:55I love him.

02:56All over dog poop?

02:58Apparently he had a history of abusing drugs, including cocaine,

03:01and had recently started drinking again after three years of sobriety.

03:05I'm sorry.

03:05You put this guy away for the rest of his life, and you throw away the freaking key,

03:12killing a beautiful young 21-year-old woman over dog poop?

03:15You open fire with your friends, AK-47,

03:18because you don't like the dog pooping in your rock garden out in front of your apartment?
