00:00Well, the cold front is moving across the state today out ahead of it, milder

00:03temperatures, and we're watching a messy spring storm for the weekend, rain and

00:07snow and a couple more chances next week.

00:19So we've got a cold front sweeping across the state today. Gusty northwest

00:23winds behind it, but southern Minnesota will still squeeze out a mild day today,

00:27probably low fifties early afternoon and then temperatures will hold steady or

00:31fall through the afternoon as that colder air moves in. But you're also

00:34gonna notice the winds pretty gusty, especially midday in the afternoon and

00:38especially in western Minnesota. Sustained wind speeds at 2025 miles an

00:41hour, with gusts of up to 30, even 40 miles an hour in the western part of

00:46the state. Not dramatically cold air. In fact, temperatures tomorrow will be

00:50closer to normal. But today, nice little warm up for one day. Low fifties here,

00:56but notice the contrast twenties behind that front only in northwestern

01:00Minnesota. So below normal temperatures for northern Minnesota. These readings,

01:02of course, above normal here in southern Minnesota. Normal high is about 44 45.

01:06So we're gonna be right in that realm or above it today and tomorrow. Tonight's

01:11gonna be pretty cold, though, down to 20 coldest night since last Saturday

01:14night and sub zero up along the international border. So tomorrow will

01:18be cooler, but we're still talking mid to upper forties, which is right around

01:21normal. Still some fifties in southwestern Minnesota, but thirties in

01:24the northeastern part of the state. Closer to normal tomorrow, though

01:28slightly above normal in the West, and that cooler air will help set up the

01:31system for the weekend. Not quite cold enough for to be all snow, but

01:35definitely cold enough for to be mostly snow eventually in the northeastern

01:39part of the state. Eso that moisture already pluming out across the western

01:44part of the country here, the Pacific Northwest getting some rain and snow

01:47today. That's the system headed towards us for tomorrow night into Sunday

01:50winter storm watch for northeastern Minnesota. So Carlton County, ST Louis

01:55Lake and Cook counties potential easily for over a half foot of heavy, wet snow

01:59in those areas. So they'll see a bit of a mix to start, but it'll turn quickly

02:02to snow for northern Minnesota. While we will see mostly rain tomorrow night,

02:07and then it will transition to snow slowly during the day Sunday, and it's

02:11hard to get snow to accumulate during the daylight hours because of the

02:14strong sun. Even when it's cloudy, the sun is getting through the surfaces. So

02:18little slushy accumulation, probably Sunday evening and overnight here in

02:21southern Minnesota, but probably an inch or less. But look at the snow pile

02:25up along the North Shore. We're talking 6 to 12 inches of snow there, and I

02:30think many places in the rest of northeastern Minnesota away from Lake

02:33Superior will get a half foot of snow to and lots of water in it, and we all

02:37need that. Two thirds of the state is still classified as moderate drought.

02:41So up to an inch of liquid equivalent precip for the North Shore, less here

02:45in southern Minnesota. So not only will we see more rain than snow, but

02:48we're gonna be on the southern end of any significant moisture anyway. But we

02:52are still watching another system for Monday night into Tuesday, and I talked

02:55about this yesterday. The timing would be everything. Now it looks to be more

02:58during the day Tuesday, so that means more light rain showers versus snow. But

03:03that timing could change again. So still watch Monday night into Tuesday

03:07carefully. We're in an active pattern with a fast moving jet stream. So every

03:11other day, a disturbance moves through somewhere in the region. Not big

03:15storms, but definitely need to watch the precip types and timing. But 53

03:20this afternoon. High temperature probably be early afternoon versus late

03:24afternoon, which is more typical because that cold front coming through

03:27sunshine to start tomorrow. Clouds will increase 46. That's again close to

03:31normal. Sunday rain turns to snow showers. We'll already see some rain

03:36showers late tomorrow evening by 10 11 p.m. But then that will transition to

03:40snow late in the day on Sunday, and then temperatures are near above normal

03:44next week by Thursday. Upper fifties and some of the models have us back in

03:47the sixties by the end of next week. Next Friday.
