Well, the Twin Cities is missing a big snow to the southeast blizzard conditions
00:03
across southern Minnesota, and then temperatures are gonna be cooler the
00:06
next couple days, but we are watching the potential for more snow and rain here
00:09
Sunday.
00:20
So the center of the system across eastern Nebraska, moving up through
00:24
northern Missouri and Iowa and the Twin Cities just north of the edge of really
00:29
any of this precipitation. Started out with some thunderstorms lifting out of
00:31
Iowa, becoming some thundersnow here across portions of far southern
00:35
Minnesota. Blizzard warnings from Fairmont through Albert Lee, Rochester
00:39
because you're gonna see heavy snow, but also some pretty intense wind gusts
00:43
later today that we'll talk about here a second. We'll all get a little bit of
00:46
the wind, but here's what some of the traffic cameras look like earlier this
00:49
morning. This is almost certainly a lot whiter looking by the time many of you
00:54
are looking at this. It's gonna be a quick bout of snow just really during
00:58
the day today or midday through the afternoon hours again, starting as a
01:02
mix, but quickly transitioning over from west to east. And by eight o'clock this
01:06
evening, it's pretty much done and out of here. Just the southeastern corner
01:09
of the state might have a little leftover snow showers, and skies will
01:13
clear out pretty quickly here in the overnight hours. But narrow but potent
01:16
swath of heavy snow. Everything that's in pink here, those air 6 to 12 inch
01:22
snowfall totals. 12 might be on the high end, but there's gonna be a lot of
01:25
places coming in at over a half foot there. And sustained wind speeds, 15 to
01:29
30 miles an hour. We're already seeing that across southern Minnesota,
01:32
including the Twin Cities. Pretty windy and dreary here with some sunshine to
01:36
the north. But southern Minnesota, even if you're not getting the snow, we are
01:39
getting the wind. Wind gusts though highest right along I-90 here with 50
01:44
to 60 mile per hour wind gusts possible through the day today. So that's why
01:48
there's that blizzard warning there across the southern part of the state.
01:51
Warmest temperatures are gonna be in between where the air is coldest to the
01:54
north and where the snow is falling to the south. So temperature is probably
01:57
low to mid forties this afternoon in the Twin Cities. And a colder overnight
02:00
tonight. Twenties and teens to the northeast, but also wherever we get that
02:05
fresh snow, that's where we're gonna see probably some colder readings
02:07
overnight tonight and tomorrow too. You can see the difference in temperatures.
02:10
Thirties across southeastern Minnesota, forties close to 50 in the Twin Cities
02:14
and into the fifties in western Minnesota. I think Friday we will see
02:17
low to mid fifties here across the Twin Cities and south central Minnesota
02:21
places that don't get the snow in fact. And it's been a very warm March so far
02:26
in the last seven days. No exception. Well above normal temperatures for the
02:30
entire eastern two thirds of the country. But the next seven days, finally
02:34
a little bit of a correction, not below normal, but closer to normal. Northern
02:38
Minnesota and pockets of Wisconsin below normal slightly with warmer than normal
02:42
conditions to the west. But on the whole, on balance, Minnesota will see
02:46
pretty normal temperatures finally the next seven days, which means mostly
02:49
forties to near 50 for us in southern Minnesota here into next week. But we
02:53
are watching another system sunday. It's gonna deliver rain and snow. Timing
02:57
will be crucial with this thing. If it comes more during the day, it's probably
03:01
gonna be more rain for us in southern Minnesota versus snow. But if it comes
03:05
earlier in the overnight saturday night could be some snow. But this is what
03:08
looks like all the different model scenarios and you can generally see the
03:12
bulk of any significant snow just to our north. But that could change. It's
03:16
still several days away. And when we look at sort of the weighted average of
03:19
the models, it does focus in on the north shore, northeastern Minnesota for
03:23
potential for several or more inches. Then as we go further south, probably
03:26
can bank on an inch or two. But again, it's all gonna depend upon timing. And
03:31
if that track shifts both in terms of distance, but also the timing of when
03:35
that rain and snow moves into the area 43 today, that is actually pretty close
03:41
to normal, but it feels chilly compared to where we've been. Upper forties
03:44
tomorrow should see bright sunshine again. And that means in southern
03:48
Minnesota, where you get that fresh snow, it will be melting already the
03:50
next couple of days, 53 friday and the twin cities a weekend, a little cooler,
03:54
but right near normal mid forties sunshine saturday. But again, looking
03:58
at rain and snow showers, probably sunday with those temperatures again
04:02
staying pretty close to normal into early next week. But the next weather
04:07
event of any significance that we're watching is that sunday rain and snow
04:10
potential.
