Hello, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Low pressure remains
00:05
very much in charge of our weather over the next couple of days, all thanks to a very
00:08
strong jet stream out in the Atlantic, allowing low pressure to barrel towards the UK into
00:13
the start of the new working week. It's this area of low pressure that we're watching at
00:16
the moment, arriving later through Sunday and into Monday, bringing some strong winds
00:20
and some heavy rain, particularly to southern areas, but also some milder air too, so temperatures
00:23
returning a little above average by the time we get to Monday.
00:27
Back to what we've got out there at the moment, though, and a band of showery rain across
00:30
Northern Ireland spreads its way eastwards into parts of Northern England, into Scotland
00:34
too. We could see some sleet and snow, particularly over any high ground, but generally that rain
00:39
fizzling out across much of England into the early hours of Sunday morning. We'll then
00:43
see some clear spells developing behind, and that will allow temperatures to drop a little
00:46
below freezing, particularly across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland during the
00:50
early hours of Sunday morning, so some frost and perhaps some ice likely to start on Sunday.
00:56
A little bit of a milder and cloudier start across much of England and Wales, though.
00:59
Outbreaks of heavy rain soon arriving across the southwest, spreading north and eastwards
01:04
through Sunday morning. There could be some quite heavy downpours here, particularly across
01:07
parts of Wales, southwest England, and then later into parts of Northern Ireland, Northern
01:11
England and eastern parts of England too. Scotland always holding on to that drier weather
01:16
for a little longer, perhaps some sunshine through the afternoon, but heavy blustery
01:19
showers soon feeding into the southwest. And with that southwesterly breeze just drawing
01:23
up some slightly milder air here, so temperatures a little above average, ten or eleven degrees
01:27
as a maximum, but generally elsewhere those temperatures are round about average for the
01:31
time of year. As we then go through the rest of Sunday evening, heavy and blustery showers
01:37
continuing to pile in across the southwest, and that weather front spreading its way northwards
01:41
into parts of Scotland again, perhaps falling asleep in snow over any high ground into the
01:45
early hours of Monday morning. Further outbreaks of rain arriving across the southeast, this
01:50
heading north and eastwards again, but perhaps could cause some spray on the roads during
01:54
Monday morning's rush hour, and further heavy blustery showers feeding into the southwest
01:59
into the start of the new working week. With all that cloud and rain around and those strong
02:03
winds too, likely to be a bit of a milder night and a milder start to the day on Monday,
02:09
temperatures widely in the mid to high single figures. So a damp and windy start for many
02:14
of us on Monday morning. Heavy blustery showers feeding in from the southwest, these perhaps
02:19
merging to longer spells of rain across parts of Northern Ireland, Wales and northern parts
02:23
of England and even into southern parts of Scotland too. There will be some plenty of
02:26
blustery showers as well across the far north of Scotland, and those again merging to longer
02:31
spells of rain across western parts, although perhaps staying a little drier across the
02:34
southeast through Monday afternoon. With those brisk southwesterly winds we're feeding in
02:39
that milder air, as I mentioned, temperatures 9, 10, perhaps 11 degrees and 6 or 7 further
02:44
north, so quite widely a little above average for the time of year. Further wet and windy
02:50
weather is likely as we head through much of next week, so do make sure you hit subscribe
02:54
