00:00
Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04
It's fine across the north-west today, clouds across central and eastern areas,
00:07
and towards the south, watch out for some heavy rain.
00:10
So through this morning, it's chilly if you're stepping out first thing across west in Scotland,
00:14
at least there you'll see some sunshine. Sunshine also, particularly for the west side of the central belt.
00:18
Northern Ireland, a very similar situation, cool but bright.
00:21
We run into the clouds across Aberdeenshire, border regions,
00:24
down towards northern counts of England as well as north Wales.
00:27
There could be some rain mixed in there where the cloud is thick enough.
00:30
Drier but cloudier conditions across the Midlands, the cloud could break at times,
00:34
but notice this rain close by, and notice some bright echoes representing some heavy downpours,
00:40
hence the reason why there's a rain warning across southern counties of England and Wales
00:44
throughout today and into tomorrow.
00:46
One or two spots over 48 hours could see up to 100mm of rain,
00:50
so there will be problems on the roads, spray, poor visibility, localised flooding as well.
00:55
So through the morning, this cloud here will be quite stubborn.
00:58
It's going to feel cool along the east coast with that northeast breeze and again some dampness in the air.
01:03
Brighter skies coming through across much of Scotland, away from the east side, northern Ireland as well.
01:08
But this rain pivots and extends across southeast Wales towards southern counties
01:12
and more rain moves in also, showery rain across the west country.
01:15
And again, we could see some heavy downpours through the afternoon and into evening rush hour this evening.
01:22
This wind continues to blow from the northeast and that means more cloud from time to time
01:27
and temperatures peg back here 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
01:31
Along the western side of Scotland though, 21 Celsius will be your high,
01:35
19 or 20 across the western side of the central belt, 18 degrees for Belfast, Newry,
01:41
but with this northern component of the wind, temperatures have been pegged back a little bit today,
01:45
they're going to be higher tomorrow.
01:48
And even a disappointing day further south where you've seen some brightness but also that keen wind.
01:53
Here's your warning zone across central and southern parts of England and Wales,
01:56
extending through this evening and overnight and feeling cool under the clouds and rain across these parts.
02:03
So as we head through this evening and overnight, again there'll be problems if you are driving in this rain,
02:09
it's going to be heavy at times.
02:11
This cloud thickens along this eastern side, down towards much of the Midlands as well as Wales,
02:17
and again you can see some patchy rain and drizzle.
02:19
Clearer skies across western Scotland and Northern Ireland,
02:22
a chilly morning come Friday morning but the sun will get to work quite nicely.
02:27
And this rain becomes mostly confined to southern counties of England
02:30
but it could nudge northwards from time to time through Friday.
02:33
And again, the rain could be heavy.
02:35
But through the day, notice these temperatures, so where you catch the sunshine,
02:39
in shelter, particularly across central and western areas of Scotland,
02:43
we could see 25-26 degrees Celsius, making it the warmest day since May,
02:48
where Adnangarh sought 25.6 Celsius.
02:51
So currently 22-25, let's see how it works out on Friday,
02:55
but it's certainly feeling warm and pleasant,
02:57
and much warmer for Northern Ireland, 22 degrees Celsius here.
03:00
Now the wind's lost its northerly component along this eastern side,
03:04
still an easterly wind though, delivering that cloud on Friday,
03:07
but the cloud will break at times, allowing for some sunshine,
03:09
certainly for places such as Lancashire, Cumbria, you'll see some brighter weather.
03:13
And we'll see some brighter skies coming through across the Midlands as well,
03:17
but this rain never too far away.
03:19
So temperatures are on the up on Friday, even so,
03:22
watch out for that heavy rain across more southern counties.
03:25
So that's the picture on Friday, let's have a look at Saturday.
03:28
Saturday, the cloud will wax and wane along the eastern side of Scotland,
03:33
north-east England.
03:34
Inland though, some brighter weather, Northern Ireland seeing a 21.
03:38
And then watch out for showers further south across England and Wales,
03:41
they could be heavy across central and southern parts.
03:43
And you'll outlook then through Sunday.
03:45
