00:00
Welcome to a week dominated by high pressure.
00:03
It's going to bring most of us a dry week,
00:06
and also temperatures will be ticking up a little bit
00:08
as well, certainly after what has been a pretty chilly start
00:11
to September.
00:12
Here's the high pressure sitting pretty much right across us
00:16
to start the working week.
00:17
It is going to wibble and wobble away a little bit.
00:20
Low pressure systems lurking out in the Atlantic,
00:23
but the jet stream is pushing those up to the north.
00:27
That means the high pressure will
00:28
continue to control our weather.
00:30
High pressure means the air is sinking.
00:32
It does just trickle away to the east
00:35
as we go through the middle and latter part of the week,
00:38
particularly by the end of the week
00:40
as it continues to drift away.
00:42
It may well allow a little area of low pressure
00:44
to push up from the south, introducing
00:46
some showers across the southern half of the country for Friday
00:49
and especially into the weekend.
00:52
More on that in a moment.
00:53
Let's rewind the clock and go through the week day by day.
00:56
We start with high pressure and a lot of fine and sunny weather
00:59
on Tuesday.
00:59
There is a weak weather front bringing a bit more cloud
01:02
across the far north, a little bit of light rain and drizzle
01:05
at times over the Northern Isles and the Western Isles.
01:07
May start a little grey in parts of the east,
01:11
some early morning mist and fog getting
01:12
to that time of year as well where
01:14
it does linger a little longer.
01:16
But it should clear and then look at that.
01:18
Most places enjoying a fine day on Tuesday,
01:20
plenty of September sunshine.
01:22
The breeze picking up a touch maybe across Kent
01:24
and generally along the south coast.
01:27
But for most light winds, going to feel pretty pleasant,
01:29
certainly warmer than last week.
01:31
High teens, low 20s in a few spots.
01:35
Now, by the time we get to Wednesday,
01:37
high pressure still definitely the main feature.
01:40
But it's just edging a little further out into the North Sea.
01:43
The isobars squidging just a little closer
01:46
together across the south.
01:47
So a bit more of a breeze that will introduce a bit more mist
01:50
and low clouds overnight.
01:52
A few fog patches, but it could be a bit of a grey start
01:55
over the East Midlands, Lincolnshire in particular.
01:58
But as we go through the day, that cloud should break up
02:01
and we'll see some sunny spells.
02:03
But just increasing chance of a little bit
02:05
of mist and low cloud on those eastern coasts.
02:08
That breeze also picking up a little across the south.
02:11
We should see temperatures a little bit higher here, 23, 24.
02:15
And we'll also likely see some high temperatures
02:18
across to the north of the hills and mountains in Scotland,
02:22
23, 24, maybe even 25 Celsius here possible.
02:26
And this map is showing temperatures
02:29
compared to average.
02:30
And most places will be around perhaps a little bit above,
02:34
but noticeably warmer than average
02:37
across that northwestern corner and across pockets
02:39
of the southeast.
02:41
For Thursday, it's a very similar story.
02:44
The high is just edging its way up towards parts of Norway.
02:48
But we're going to keep that same weather
02:50
situation with a high pressure, meaning
02:52
the air is generally sinking.
02:53
So yes, we'll see some morning mist and fog
02:56
and perhaps a bit more of that low cloud
02:58
to start the day, particularly over central and eastern parts.
03:01
But it should disappear as we go through the middle part
03:05
of the morning to reveal some good spells of sunshine.
03:07
Again, with more of an easterly breeze,
03:10
these eastern coasts will be cooler
03:12
and perhaps it could stay quite grey all day.
03:15
If it does, that will really impact the temperatures,
03:18
maybe sticking in the mid-teens.
03:19
But where we see some sunshine in the south,
03:21
23, 24 degrees Celsius, the winds
03:24
will be lighter across Scotland, which
03:26
means we won't have such a significant effect
03:28
with the temperatures.
03:29
But we could still get to 21, 22 perhaps in a few places here.
03:34
So yeah, quite a big variation with those temperatures.
03:36
You've got the breeze coming in from the sea.
03:37
That is going to make it feel cool.
03:39
But in the sunshine, out of the breeze,
03:40
feeling pretty pleasant for Wednesday and Thursday.
03:44
By Friday, we are likely to start to see a change.
03:46
High pressure is still nearby, but it's weakening all
03:49
the while, as we saw earlier, just
03:50
the threat of that lowering pressure coming up
03:53
from the south.
03:54
More of an easterly breeze generally,
03:55
so it's likely to be quite a grey start.
03:58
West Wales, north-west Scotland doing OK for sunshine,
04:01
I suspect.
04:02
But then look at this.
04:03
Showers bubbling up as we go through the day,
04:05
as we get that lower pressure getting a bit closer.
04:08
So for the midlands, southern England,
04:10
parts of south and east Wales in particular,
04:12
could be a few showers moving through on that easterly breeze.
04:15
And again, that easterly breeze will bring a chillier day
04:18
to the east coast western areas, favoured for sunshine
04:22
and seeing the highest temperatures.
04:24
And I think we'll see that low pressure just pushing
04:26
a little further north as we go into the weekend.
04:29
Increases the chance of just some heavy showers,
04:31
but even a few thunderstorms.
04:34
As always, as we get closer to the weekend,
04:36
do stay up to date with the latest forecast.
