00:00Welcome to a week dominated by high pressure.

00:03It's going to bring most of us a dry week,

00:06and also temperatures will be ticking up a little bit

00:08as well, certainly after what has been a pretty chilly start

00:11to September.

00:12Here's the high pressure sitting pretty much right across us

00:16to start the working week.

00:17It is going to wibble and wobble away a little bit.

00:20Low pressure systems lurking out in the Atlantic,

00:23but the jet stream is pushing those up to the north.

00:27That means the high pressure will

00:28continue to control our weather.

00:30High pressure means the air is sinking.

00:32It does just trickle away to the east

00:35as we go through the middle and latter part of the week,

00:38particularly by the end of the week

00:40as it continues to drift away.

00:42It may well allow a little area of low pressure

00:44to push up from the south, introducing

00:46some showers across the southern half of the country for Friday

00:49and especially into the weekend.

00:52More on that in a moment.

00:53Let's rewind the clock and go through the week day by day.

00:56We start with high pressure and a lot of fine and sunny weather

00:59on Tuesday.

00:59There is a weak weather front bringing a bit more cloud

01:02across the far north, a little bit of light rain and drizzle

01:05at times over the Northern Isles and the Western Isles.

01:07May start a little grey in parts of the east,

01:11some early morning mist and fog getting

01:12to that time of year as well where

01:14it does linger a little longer.

01:16But it should clear and then look at that.

01:18Most places enjoying a fine day on Tuesday,

01:20plenty of September sunshine.

01:22The breeze picking up a touch maybe across Kent

01:24and generally along the south coast.

01:27But for most light winds, going to feel pretty pleasant,

01:29certainly warmer than last week.

01:31High teens, low 20s in a few spots.

01:35Now, by the time we get to Wednesday,

01:37high pressure still definitely the main feature.

01:40But it's just edging a little further out into the North Sea.

01:43The isobars squidging just a little closer

01:46together across the south.

01:47So a bit more of a breeze that will introduce a bit more mist

01:50and low clouds overnight.

01:52A few fog patches, but it could be a bit of a grey start

01:55over the East Midlands, Lincolnshire in particular.

01:58But as we go through the day, that cloud should break up

02:01and we'll see some sunny spells.

02:03But just increasing chance of a little bit

02:05of mist and low cloud on those eastern coasts.

02:08That breeze also picking up a little across the south.

02:11We should see temperatures a little bit higher here, 23, 24.

02:15And we'll also likely see some high temperatures

02:18across to the north of the hills and mountains in Scotland,

02:2223, 24, maybe even 25 Celsius here possible.

02:26And this map is showing temperatures

02:29compared to average.

02:30And most places will be around perhaps a little bit above,

02:34but noticeably warmer than average

02:37across that northwestern corner and across pockets

02:39of the southeast.

02:41For Thursday, it's a very similar story.

02:44The high is just edging its way up towards parts of Norway.

02:48But we're going to keep that same weather

02:50situation with a high pressure, meaning

02:52the air is generally sinking.

02:53So yes, we'll see some morning mist and fog

02:56and perhaps a bit more of that low cloud

02:58to start the day, particularly over central and eastern parts.

03:01But it should disappear as we go through the middle part

03:05of the morning to reveal some good spells of sunshine.

03:07Again, with more of an easterly breeze,

03:10these eastern coasts will be cooler

03:12and perhaps it could stay quite grey all day.

03:15If it does, that will really impact the temperatures,

03:18maybe sticking in the mid-teens.

03:19But where we see some sunshine in the south,

03:2123, 24 degrees Celsius, the winds

03:24will be lighter across Scotland, which

03:26means we won't have such a significant effect

03:28with the temperatures.

03:29But we could still get to 21, 22 perhaps in a few places here.

03:34So yeah, quite a big variation with those temperatures.

03:36You've got the breeze coming in from the sea.

03:37That is going to make it feel cool.

03:39But in the sunshine, out of the breeze,

03:40feeling pretty pleasant for Wednesday and Thursday.

03:44By Friday, we are likely to start to see a change.

03:46High pressure is still nearby, but it's weakening all

03:49the while, as we saw earlier, just

03:50the threat of that lowering pressure coming up

03:53from the south.

03:54More of an easterly breeze generally,

03:55so it's likely to be quite a grey start.

03:58West Wales, north-west Scotland doing OK for sunshine,

04:01I suspect.

04:02But then look at this.

04:03Showers bubbling up as we go through the day,

04:05as we get that lower pressure getting a bit closer.

04:08So for the midlands, southern England,

04:10parts of south and east Wales in particular,

04:12could be a few showers moving through on that easterly breeze.

04:15And again, that easterly breeze will bring a chillier day

04:18to the east coast western areas, favoured for sunshine

04:22and seeing the highest temperatures.

04:24And I think we'll see that low pressure just pushing

04:26a little further north as we go into the weekend.

04:29Increases the chance of just some heavy showers,

04:31but even a few thunderstorms.

04:34As always, as we get closer to the weekend,
