I can't deny it.
00:04
The Dodgers, before the All-Star break, had lost 6 of 7.
00:08
The Padres had lost 6 of 7.
00:09
So while the Padres had an opportunity to catch up on the Dodgers, they didn't.
00:14
Coming out of the All-Star break, the Dodgers got off to a very hot start.
00:17
The Padres got off to a very hot start.
00:19
But here's what's happened, in particular, in the last couple of days.
00:22
The Padres have consistently won games and won series.
00:26
And the Dodgers, in particular, lost this series against Philadelphia.
00:29
And granted, Philadelphia is a much better team that just beat LA than Pittsburgh is,
00:34
which the Padres have already won this series, and they're up 4-0 right now, and they're
00:37
trying to sweep this series.
00:39
But the Pirates are a team that is scratching and clawing and trying to get their way into
00:45
the wild card.
00:46
And oh, by the way, Philadelphia will leave LA, go play in Arizona, where Arizona's been
00:52
on fire.
00:53
And Pittsburgh will leave home after this game today and go fly to LA and play the Dodgers
00:59
for the next few games.
01:00
And the easiest of all of them is the Padres, who are going to Miami.
01:04
So with a three-game lead right now that the Dodgers have over the Padres, and by the way,
01:10
with Arizona having the same record but yet having to play Philadelphia, I'm telling you
01:14
guys right now, by Monday, the whole NL West could be different than what it currently
01:19
is right now.
01:20
Nope.
01:21
Now, Browder, why don't you give me that look?
01:24
I don't get it.
01:25
You got to enjoy this while it's happening.
01:26
And by the way, I'm glad you make that look, because I got a lot of fans who are hitting
01:30
me up going, you're going to be able to stick it to Browder, because I kept telling you
01:34
and telling you, you go for the division.
01:36
You don't just give up the division.
01:38
Hey, I'm playing for second place.
01:40
When you are now only three games back and you're going to Miami, and LA is going to
01:45
host a playoff contender, and Philly is going to go to Arizona, dude, this is the time.
01:52
You don't agree.
01:54
I've said it repeatedly.
01:55
You're mischaracterizing what I'm saying, but we'll get to it.
01:58
Hmm.
01:59
All right.
02:00
Well, I don't want to mischaracterize.
02:02
You tell us what you're saying.
02:03
Stick around.
02:04
This is Kaplan and crew.
02:06
What a night last night in the National League West.
02:08
And we're getting ready for the start of the NFL season.
02:10
Stick around.
02:23
Hey, try and set the stage for what should be a great year of NFL action.
02:40
There's a handful of teams that potentially can compete for a Super Bowl championship.
02:45
Confusion and uncertainty this year, more than some in the past.
02:50
This team looks like it's ready to make a move, but we just don't know if it's bad or
02:54
good this year.
02:55
J.J. McCarthy is eventually going to take over, but it's like it's a no-lose situation
02:59
for them.
03:00
I mean, they suck.
03:01
They were seven and ten.
03:02
Only on Sports Grid.
03:06
Hopefully they learned their lesson.
03:07
Hey, this ain't the NBA, bro.
03:09
You don't have six fouls, and they will check you on this stuff.
03:12
And Brooks has a reputation coming into this.
03:14
You can tell the refs are watching them, and they were on them all the time.
03:18
If this was 10, 12 years ago, Canada playing Greece with that type of lead that they had,
03:23
they probably would have mentally crumbled and lost that game to Greece by like three
03:26
or four points in the final minute of that ballgame.
03:29
Sports Rage late night, only on Sports Grid.
03:35
Say the under has the correct juice to the six and a half win total for the New York
03:40
Giants.
03:41
It's a losing season.
03:42
It's a bad season in the greater New York area.
03:46
It's Brian Dayball, and it's Joe Shane back next year.
03:50
As a Giants fan, what are you looking forward to?
03:53
Absolutely nothing.
03:54
You're hoping like the Yankees make a long enough run so you can forget about the Giants.
03:58
The early line, only on Sports Grid.
04:05
The bottom of this field is a bunch of guys, quite frankly, that aren't on the tour, aren't
04:10
on the DP tour, aren't on the Corn Ferry tour.
04:13
You know, the top 25 or so in this field, I mean, you've got Rory, you've got Lowry,
04:18
you've got Scheffler, you know, all four Americans, Minwoo Lee and Jason Day.
04:22
And you go to Mito Pereira and Joaquin Neiman out of Chile.
04:26
So, you know, it really is pretty deep.
04:29
In game live, primetime, only on Sports Grid.
04:34
Just playing for second place, and we're not just playing to get into the wild card.
04:37
The Padres should be playing to win the division in particular this year because the Dodgers
04:43
haven't had Yamamoto and Kershaw's only had three starts and Bueller never really made
04:49
it all the way back.
04:50
And a lot of their young pitchers did not improve this year.
04:54
Mookie Betts has been hurt.
04:57
Freddie Freeman missed eight games.
04:59
Max Muncy has missed like 45 games.
05:02
So what have I mischaracterized when I said that the Padres should go for the division
05:06
and you said the division is unwinnable?
05:08
What did I mischaracterize?
05:10
That I said, and I will continue to say this, that if your sole focus is on a division,
05:16
leave me out of that.
05:18
Keep playing consistent baseball and get in the playoffs because divisions are irrelevant.
05:25
They're pointless.
05:27
In baseball, the division used to mean that was your only way to get into the playoffs.
05:33
We don't operate in professional sports like that anymore because of the money that's involved.
05:38
The more teams that are active at the end of the year, the higher the attendance, the
05:41
higher the attention.
05:43
So baseball has gotten wise to what basketball has been doing forever and what football is
05:48
now doing.
05:49
More playoff teams, better the sport, better the season, better engagement.
05:56
Baseball's now doing that.
05:57
So whether you win a division or not is not the end all be all.
06:01
You don't necessarily get anything extra other than the sale.
06:05
You don't get any home field, no home field advantage of any kind.
06:09
Again, you get extra tickets, you have the ownership group, you get more money.
06:15
That's about it.
06:16
That's about it.
06:17
The wins and losses.
06:18
Fans care about wins or losses.
06:20
Whether you win on a home or whether you win on a road, it doesn't matter.
06:24
Winning, you're going to have to win some road games anyway, period, if you want to
06:28
be the champ.
06:32
So there is no advantage to winning the division?
06:37
In my opinion.
06:38
No, no, I'm asking, like, factually speaking.
06:41
Is there not an advantage if you win the division, do you not have more home games, theoretically?
06:46
In theory, yeah, well, yeah.
06:48
The only time I was having the best record overall, that absolutely is important because
06:54
you get that.
06:55
Now you don't have to win a road game, you can win a home games only and win the championship.
07:01
But they're not going to get that.
07:02
Yeah, I think I'd much rather win the division.
07:05
I'm just saying, just me personally, I'd much rather win the division and either have a
07:09
bye week or host a series instead of having to go to New York again and win a best of
07:14
three series because that's just like a shootout.
07:16
And you know why you did that?
07:18
Because you kept playing when the season ended and you were able to keep your mojo and your
07:22
flow going.
07:23
I thought it was Musgrove's greasy ear.
07:25
I mean, you know, I put a little grease on there.
07:28
If you get a week, if this team gets a week off, then that team comes back rusty.
07:33
I don't find the same here.
07:35
Now you fall victim to the wildcard craziness.
07:38
I don't know where you're coming from and I don't want to speak for you, but I'll tell
07:41
you where I'm coming from.
07:42
I'm mischaracterized.
07:43
I'm not.
07:44
That's why I said I'm not speaking for one man.
07:48
I'm not going to speak for one man.
07:50
I'm going to speak for an entire fan base instead.
07:53
As a Padre fan.
07:55
It would mean so much to this fan base to win the division against that team.
08:02
And to me, that is important, not in the big picture, but the same way that Saturday night
08:07
when the Padres beat the Dodgers and how important it was for that fan base.
08:11
This is just as equally as important to me.
08:14
I genuinely think that the fan base to win a division, it would mean a significant amount,
08:19
especially after the season that the Padres just had the biggest disappointment in franchise
08:24
history to bounce back after all the naysayers and stick it in our face and win a division.
08:33
That would be monstrous.
08:34
It doesn't mean that it's going to translate into winning a World Series or going to the
08:38
NLCS.
08:39
I'm just saying as a as a thing for a fan base, as a thing for the city, I think it's
08:44
huge and I think they should go for it.
08:45
And obviously they're not going to not go for it.
08:48
They're going to play the games.
08:49
Well, given, given the goal, it should be a goal, right?
08:52
That's what I think.
08:53
I think it should be a goal.
08:55
I want to say the way the Dodgers have dominated this division in the last 10 or 12 years.
09:03
What's the one where they've won?
09:05
I want to say 10 of 11 divisions.
09:07
They got him.
09:08
It got him nothing, but that doesn't mean it's not going to get the Padres something.
09:13
Or by the way, the Arizona Diamondbacks, something for that matter.
09:15
I'm just saying seeing somebody else win the division.
09:18
Think about it like this.
09:19
How many years did the Patriots win the division in a row?
09:22
So for the bills, for the Dolphins, it's about let's start off with let's win our division.
09:28
Let's create some home field advantage.
09:31
That's all I'm trying to say.
09:32
You're blowing it off like as if it's completely meaningful and I'm saying that there's a meaning
09:36
to it.
09:37
It's in my opinion, I'm just expressing my opinion.
09:41
I think the division is at this point in time in sports.
09:45
The division is meaningless.
09:47
So let's say, let's just say they win the division.
09:51
They get bounced in the first round.
09:53
We ain't going to talk about they won the division.
