00:00Once there lived a rich man, Mr. Richards, in a town.

00:07He had only one son, whose name was Daniel.

00:12Daniel was an intelligent boy and was brought up with good moral value.

00:19Unfortunately, he fell in bad company.

00:23He would loiter here and there.

00:27He would loiter here and there and go partying with his friends.

00:33Then, he started neglecting his studies and even his grades came down.

00:41The worst came when he began to bunk off the school.

00:46He even flunked an exam.

00:49Mr. Richards was now really upset.

00:54How can I bring my son back to his senses, he wondered.

01:00He had to find a way before it was too late.

01:04One day, he went to a shop to buy fruits.

01:09There he saw apples, some rotten and some fresh.

01:14Suddenly, a wonderful idea came to his mind.

01:19It was so appealing that it brought a broad smile on his face.

01:25He bought some apples and rushed back home.

01:29He waited eagerly for his son, Daniel, to return.

01:34As usual, Daniel returned quite late in the evening.

01:39He was surprised to find his dad waiting for him.

01:43He knew that he was very late.

01:47I must be ready with some excuse to escape a piece of scolding from my dad, he thought.

01:55To his utter amazement, he found his dad in a rather happy mood.

02:01And to add to his bewilderment, he had a basket of apples in front of him.

02:07He called Daniel to his side and said,

02:11Son, there is an interesting game for you.

02:16Saying this, he placed an empty basket on the table.

02:21Take out only the fresh apples from the basket and keep them in this empty basket, he said.

02:30Daniel followed his father's instructions.

02:34He picked them one by one and put them into the other basket.

02:40He was surprised to see that all the apples, except one, were fresh.

02:48Dad looked quite amused.

02:51He said, Now put the rotten apple, too, in the basket.

02:58Daniel wondered what game his dad was up to.

03:03Dad had yet one more instruction for Daniel.

03:07Keep the basket at some safe place, he said.

03:12When one week was over, dad called Daniel.

03:16My dear boy, can you bring here the basket of apples I gave you to keep a few days back, he said.

03:24Your pleasure, dad, said Daniel and ran to bring the basket.

03:30He looked at the apples with his eyes wide open.

03:35All the fresh apples had turned rotten.

03:40What happened, son? said the amused father.

03:44I can't believe this, dad. All the fresh apples have turned rotten, said Daniel.

03:51This has happened because of the rotten apple, son.

03:55There is nothing surprising in it.

04:00Dad, do you mean a single rotten apple has spoiled all the fresh apples, said Daniel?

04:07Exactly, said the exuberant father.

04:11Daniel was dumbfounded.

04:14Dad got encouragement to drive home his point.

04:18My dear boy, here is a lesson for you, too.

04:23You know, just like rotten apples, a bad company is bound to have its evil effect

04:29even on the most virtuous person on earth.

04:33The words of the father had a deep effect on Daniel.

04:38He was full of remorse. How could he be so lousy in his ways?

04:43He had to mend his ways before it was too late, he realized.

04:49He apologized to his father.

04:52Dad, I am terribly sorry for my behavior. Please forgive me for making you so upset.

04:59I promise to give up bad company just this instant.

05:09when he heard these words which he had yearned to hear for so long.

05:15His son was truly repentant of all the wrongs he had committed.

05:20He took his dearest son in his arms and happily forgave him.
