Negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are set to resume on Wednesday. Over four months into the union's strike over its expired film and TV contract, the WGA told its members, "The WGA and AMPTP now have a confirmed schedule to bargain this week, starting on Wednesday. You might not hear from us in the coming days while we are negotiating, but know that our focus is getting a fair deal for writers as soon as possible. We'll reach out again when there is something of significance to report."

00:00 Negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture
00:04 and Television Producers are set to resume on Wednesday.
00:08 Over four months into the union's strike over its expired film and TV contract, the WGA
00:13 told its members on Monday, "The WGA and AMPTP now have a confirmed schedule to bargain this
00:19 week starting on Wednesday.
00:20 You might not hear from us in the coming days while we are negotiating, but know that our
00:24 focus is getting a fair deal for writers as soon as possible.
00:27 We'll reach out again when there is something of significance to report."
00:30 The Guild also encouraged members to show up at picket lines "for yourselves and fellow
00:35 writers, SAG-AFTRA, other union members, and all those in our community who are impacted
00:40 by the strikes."
00:41 The AMPTP, which represents studios and streamers in these negotiations, confirmed the date.
00:46 Official bargaining over a new contract has been at a standstill since August, but the
00:50 apparent stalemate between the two parties was broken Thursday when the AMPTP announced
00:54 that the WGA had reached out to resume talks.
00:57 The WGA confirmed only that the two sides were attempting to schedule a new meeting.
01:01 The news of the fresh momentum in discussions took quick effect, with a previously scheduled
01:05 meeting for Friday between Guild leaders and top showrunners like Kenya Barris and Noah
01:09 Hawley getting canceled as a result of the development.
01:12 This news comes after numerous showrunners took to the picket line at Fox last Tuesday
01:16 in solidarity.
01:17 "I, like everybody, am frustrated with how long this has been dragging on, but there's
01:25 an enormous amount of solidarity here."
01:27 "I think it's really time for the AMPTP to get back to the table and make a deal.
01:32 Let's take this seriously.
01:33 I think people are hurting.
01:36 It's really a long and painful strike, and they have the power to end it, so they need
01:39 to get serious."
