Super Typhoon Rai, One Of World's Strongest Storms, Slams Into Philippines, Thousands Evacuated

On December 16, super typhoon Rai hit Philippines. Thousands of people fled their homes as the typhoon lashed the country. The storm hit Siargao, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 195 km (121 miles) per hour, reported Reuters. The weather bureau had warned of widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides as well. The national disaster agency said that more than 45,000 people sought emergency shelter as the storm charged across the Pacific Ocean.
