The India cricket team had a brilliant day with the bat on the opening day of the first Test against the England cricket team in Leeds on June 20. After being asked to bat first, Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched a fantastic opening stand of 91 runs. England picked two quick wickets in the form of KL Rahul (42) and debutant Sai Sudharsan (0) as India reached 92/2 at lunch. In the second session, Yashasvi Jaiswal notched up his fifth Test century and first on English soil. Shubman Gill slammed his first half-century as Indian Test captain as the visitors reached 215/2 at tea. After the tea break, England captain Ben Stokes removed Yashasvi Jaiswal for 101 runs with a sensational delivery and broke the 129-run stand. Rishabh Pant (65*) and Shubman Gill (127*) attacked England bowlers as Team India finished their day on a high note at 359-3 on stumps on Day 1.
