Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor described those who oppose a proposed national security law for the city as “enemies of the people”. In a June 16, 2020, press conference, Lam said the vast majority of people want stability restored in Hong Kong and she urged opponents to stop “smearing” efforts to pass the measure.
