Hong Kong freedoms will not be eroded by Beijing’s national security law, Carrie Lam says

Hong Kong’s freedoms “will be preserved” under Beijing’s national security law for the city, its leader Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said on May 26, 2020, in an effort to reassure residents alarmed by the proposed legislation. The law would prohibit acts of secession, subversion, terrorism, and foreign interference, while requiring the Hong Kong government to set up new institutions to safeguard sovereignty and allowing mainland agencies to operate in the city as needed.
