Drumstick Masala Curry / Munakkaya Tomato Kura is a simple Andhra style curry recipe using drumsticks. The combination of tangy tomatoes and tender drumsticks with spices is absolutely delightful.
Drumsticks are widely used in South Indian cooking. They impart a lovely aroma to any dish and can increase the flavor of the dish.
Apart from the unique flavor that it has, this vegetable also has numerous health benefits. They are a good source of vitamin C and dietary fiber. I love simple curries and this drumstick tomato curry is no exception.
Drumsticks are infused with the flavor of tomatoes and spices as they are cooked. This simple curry tastes delicious when served either with rice or chapatis / rotis.

Ingredients :
2 Drumsticks / munakkaya
1 large onion
4 Tomatoes medium-sized
2 Green chilies slit
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds/jeera
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste

Method :
- Slightly scrape the skin of the drumsticks and then cut the drumsticks into 2-inch pieces and set aside.
- Chop onions and tomatoes finely. Crush the garlic cloves.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds splutter, add cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds.
- Once cumin seeds slightly change color, add chopped onions, slit green chilies, crushed garlic, and curry leaves.
- Saute till onions turn translucent.
- Then add the chopped tomatoes. Cook till tomatoes turn soft and pulpy.
- Now add the drumstick pieces along with salt, turmeric powder, and red chili powder and mix well.
- Add 1 cup water. Cover and cook on medium flame till drumsticks turn soft. Keep stirring occasionally. Add some more water if required.
- Once the drumsticks are cooked and gravy reaches desired consistency, remove from heat.
- Drumstick tomato curry is ready to be served with rotis or rice.
