Five-hour ceasefire by Israel to allow aid to reach Gaza

Israel has agreed to a five-hour ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid to Gaza after nine days of rocket and missile exchanges.
A spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces said that the temporary truce would take place between 10 am and 3 pm local time on Thursday. He added that “any attempt to take advantage of the ceasefire will be retaliated”.
This move by Israel comes after a request by the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Robert Serry, for Israel to halt its strikes in Gaza.
Hamas has made no immediate comment. Earlier the group rejected a ceasefire proposal by Egypt.
The UN has said 18,000 people have been displaced in the conflict.
Palestinian officials have said that around 220 people have been killed and 1,800 injured since July 8 by Israeli attacks.
One Israeli has died as a result of the recent violence.
