00:22Billionaire Jeff Bezos and Laurence Sanchez tied the knot in a wedding ceremony on Friday
00:27in Venice.
00:30Dozens of private jets flocked to Venice's airports and yachts pulled into the city's
00:34waterways as guests arrived for the ceremony.
00:39Celebrities including members of the Kardashian family as well as Oprah Winfrey were in Venice
00:44to attend the festivities.
00:47The wedding has divided the Italian city.
00:50Some activists protested as exploitation of Venice by Bezos while ordinary residents suffer
00:56from over-tourism, high housing costs and the constant threat of climate-induced flooding.
01:03However, the city's governor has strongly defended the wedding as an economic and reputational
01:09boon for Venice.
01:12He says the price tag he had seen was between €40 and €48 million.
01:21As summer temperatures continue to climb across Europe, multiple wildfires and extreme heatwaves
01:27have erupted in various regions across the continent.
01:31A heatwave in Turkey pushed temperatures past 40 degrees Celsius, creating dangerous conditions
01:38and sparking wildfires.
01:41Ground and aerial firefighting teams were deployed to combat blazes in multiple areas.
01:51In Greece, many Athenians rushed to the beaches as the year's first major heatwave hit the country.
01:58Set to peak at around 40 or 41 degrees Celsius, the heatwave is expected to last until the
02:04end of the weekend when temperatures are forecast to ease.
02:12In Italy, firefighters have been training to prepare for the threat of upcoming heatwaves.
02:18New technologies like the use of artificial intelligence are being added to traditional methods to improve
02:24techniques and minimize risks.
02:32Germany's Bundestag voted on Friday to suspend family reunification for those who don't qualify
02:39for full refugee status for the next two years.
02:43Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the new bill was necessary because Germany's integration
02:51capacity had reached its limits, especially in education, childcare and housing.
02:58Germany's federal states are expected to approve the bill in July.
03:02The measure supported by the far-right Alternative for Germany party will affect some 380,000 migrants
03:10living in Germany.
03:12The bill was passed with 444 votes in favor, whilst 135 voted against.
03:20Dobrindt had previously ordered tighter border controls against illegal migration and the rejection
03:27of asylum seekers.
03:34The United States Supreme Court has ruled that the federal judges who blocked President Donald
03:39Trump's nationwide executive order repealing birthright citizenship overstep their powers.
03:47The court ruled 6-3 that individual judges lacked the authority to grant nationwide injunctions
03:53and could only do so in their district.
03:58Trump has held the decision as, quote, a monumental victory.
04:04It was a grave threat to democracy, frankly, and instead of merely ruling on the immediate
04:10cases before them, these judges have attempted to dictate the law for the entire nation.
04:18Trump told reporters he'd promptly filed to advance policies blocked by judges.
04:22But the court left open the possibility that the birthright citizenship limitations could
04:26remain blocked nationwide.
04:29It provided a 30-day period before Trump's orders could be applied and ordered the lower
04:34courts to bring their injunctions in line with the new decision.
