00:00Are the British public regretful?
00:07In 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union in a close-call referendum.
00:12Nine years on, the nation appears to be regretful.
00:15In a survey conducted by YouGov, 56% of Brits said that with hindsight,
00:19they believed the decision to leave the bloc was wrong,
00:21compared with 31% who maintained that it was the right decision.
00:24Asked whether Brexit has been more of a failure than a success,
00:2761% said it had been more of a failure, 20% stated that it was neither,
00:32while 13% argued it has been a success.
00:36Of those who were disappointed by Brexit,
00:3888% placed the blame on the UK's Conservative Party,
00:41while 84% said the UK's former Prime Minister Boris Johnson was to blame.
00:46But one in three of those surveyed also said the European Union
00:49was responsible for Brexit shortcomings, including 60% of Leave voters.
00:54Despite these differences, the survey revealed that almost two-thirds of Britons
00:58now want a closer relationship with the European Union,
01:02as starts as it's popular across all main parties, as well as among Leave voters.
01:07Although Brits believe that closer ties with the EU could be beneficial,
01:11the question of whether there should be a referendum on rejoining the bloc remains a thorny one.
01:16Brits remain unconvinced by holding a referendum in the near future.
01:20However, over a longer 25-year period, 52% back a referendum,
01:25compared to 26% who said they would still oppose the idea.
