00:00The United States Supreme Court has ruled that the federal judges who blocked President Donald Trump's nationwide executive order repealing birthright citizenship overstepped their powers.
00:15The court ruled 6-3 that individual judges lacked the authority to grant nationwide injunctions and could only do so in their district.
00:24Trump has held the decision as part of a monumental victory.
00:32It was a grave threat to democracy, frankly, and instead of merely ruling on the immediate cases before them, these judges have attempted to dictate the law for the entire nation.
00:45Trump told reporters he'd promptly filed to advance policies blocked by judges.
00:49But the court left open the possibility that the birthright citizenship limitations could remain blocked nationwide.
00:57It provided a 30-day period before Trump's orders could be applied and ordered the lower courts to bring their injunctions in line with the new decision.
