00:07Teresa Angel reveals that the main criticisms are difficulties in accessing documents,
00:13public participation and a lack of transparency.
00:17I recently presented the report in my annual report where it is possible to verify that
00:23it is one of the biggest increases in transparency, 42.2% of our claims are in transparency,
00:31very essentially associated with access to documents.
00:36The new Ombudsman argues that it is better to prevent, in order to increase,
00:41the transparency of the European Union's institutions.
00:45Teresa Angel emphasized that the Commission needs to do more in future,
00:50referring to the Pfizer-Gate case which involved the President of the European Commission
00:55in a text message exchange about vaccines during the pandemic.
01:00It is possible to do more, and mainly the European Commission,
01:03because what we watch are successive changes in the delivery of these documents.
01:11And, being a journalist, I can see this very well.
01:14Many times, the access to information that is denied is a access to information that is denied.
01:20In a first interview with Euronews, Anin Jo makes it clear that the European Ombudsman
01:25does not have judicial power, but it is on the side of citizens.
01:30We are not merely watchdogs administratives.
01:33We also are and must be a guardian of the European citizenship.
01:37Anin Jo has launched her own initiative inquiry into the sensitive issue of revolving doors.
01:50The term refers to former public officials who take up roles in the private sector
01:55or engage in lobbying.
01:56This raises concerns about conflicts of interest between public duties and private gains.
