Oscar Pistorius: 'no mental disorder' at time of girlfriend's murder

Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius had no mental disorder when he shot dead his girlfriend, according to his psychological report.

His murder trial has resumed after a month-long break to complete a mental health evaluation.

In court, prosecutor Gerrie Nel, read the mental health experts’ analysis:

“Mr Pistorius did not suffer from a mental defect or mental illness at the time of the commission of the offences that would have rendered him criminally not responsible for the offences charged.”

“...Mr. Pistorius was capable of appreciating the wrongfulness of this act and of acting in accordance with the appreciation of the wrongfulness of his act,” Nel continued.

The psychological report shows that Pistorius was criminally responsible for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Both prosecution and defence have accepted its results.

Pistorius has admitted to accidentally shooting Steenkamp, after mistaking her for an intruder hiding in his toilet.

Next, the judge will decide whether Pistorius killed her accidentally or intentionally.
