The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea climbed back over 200 on Saturday.
As cluster infections continue to spread across the nation, health authorities consider raising the social distancing level to one-point-five.
Kim Sung-min reports.
South Korea added 205 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday,...crossing into the 200 range for the first time in over 2 months.
There were 1-hundred-66 local transmissions and 39 from overseas.
Seoul and Gyeonggi-do province reported a combined 1-hundred-9 cases.
Sporadic cluster infections stem from various hotspots like health care facilities, work, school, and social gatherings.
As of Saturday, at least 59 infections have been linked to a care center in Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu district, and 9 people tested positive after visiting a sauna in the Gangseo-gu district.
Following the resurgence, the nation's health authorities are considering raising the social distancing level.
Once the weekly average of daily infections in the capital area reaches over 100, the level can be raised to 1-point-5.
"The average of daily infections this week has been 1-hundred-22-point-4. By region, the figures for the capital area stand at 83-point-4 and for Gangwondo-Province at 11-point-1,...where we have to discuss raising the level. "
President Moon Jae-in on Saturday also urged the public to stick to social distancing measures in daily life.
On Twitter, he called for tightened measures against the recent resurgence, especially with the national college entrance exam, the Suneung, around the corner next month.
Meanwhile, four players and one staff member of South Korea's men's national football team have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The team has been staying in Vienna this week for scheduled matches against Mexico on Saturday and Qatar on Tuesday.
According to the Korea Football Association, all five are asymptomatic, and the rest of the team and staff members are currently under quarantine in their hotel rooms.
Those who have tested negative for the virus will be tested again on Saturday, and the results will decide if the matches go ahead as planned.
