A group of South Korean lawmakers met with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Friday as part of efforts to mend diplomatic ties between the two countries over historical and trade issues.
During their first meeting with the PM, seven members of the Korea-Japan Parliamentarians' Union told Suga that the union would encourage exchanges between the two countries on the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The chairman of the union noted...although it's best to resolve pending issues between the two, Japan's wartime forced labor issue should not continue to pose a problem.
He further added that it's necessary to proceed with exchanges and cooperation instead.
While expressing appreciation for the legislators' efforts, Suga asked Seoul to "straighten up the conditions" in response to the union's invitation to visit South Korea.
