코로나19 어제 106명 신규확진, 사흘째 100명대 초반…지역 91명

We start with the latest on the coronavirus in South Korea.
It's the third day in a row that local infections have been below 100.
But a large proportion of recent cases are elderly people, leading to worries of an increase in critically ill patients and deaths.
Our Kim Do-yeon has the details.
South Korea reported 106 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
Of those, 91 were local transmissions, marking the third consecutive day with only double digit local infections.
The capital area continued to account for the majority of new cases but it is seeing a constant downtrend.
Despite the positive news, the government is concerned as more elderly people are being infected with the virus.
Around 40 percent of new infections have been in those over 60 years old.
This is alarming as the virus poses more of a threat to them compared to younger generations.
Currently, 158 people are in critical condition and, of those, around 87 percent are over 60 years old.
As a result, the death rate has risen in recent days.
The country reported 4 more deaths on Tuesday, bringing the number of people who have died this past week to around 30.
This is twice as many deaths as the previous week.
With cluster infections emerging from meetings and facilities for the elderly, the government is pleading for their cooperation when it comes to practicing social distancing.
As for cluster infections, the capital area is seeing more cases through those as well.
The city of Bucheon saw a cluster related to door-to-door sales increase to 16 as of Tuesday, while those linked to a mountain climbing club rose to 41.
The nationwide caseload now stands at 22,391.
More than 84-percent of those people have fully recovered.
