South Korea saw over 60 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and majority of those, 47, were cases from overseas.
That's the highest number of imported cases since late March.
The country is on alert... as imported cases have been outnumbering domestic infections... and are steadily on a rise.
Our Eum Ji-young has this report.
South Korea on Thursday recorded its highest number of imported COVID-19 cases since March 25th.
Out of the 61 new cases reported on Thursday, 47 were imported.
It's the 21st day in a row that there have been ten or more new cases coming from overseas.
Of Thursday's new imported cases, 20 of them were South Korean construction workers returning from Iraq.
Around 100 South Korean construction workers in Iraq returned home earlier this week.
Out of the people on the connecting flight the workers took from Qatar to South Korea, 14 were reported to have COVID-19 on Wednesday as well as the further 20 reported on Thursday.
"Among 216 passengers on the plane, a total of 34 construction workers have been confirmed so far."
Health authorities said the imported infections coming from Iraq are likely to rise further as more workers return home. Thursday's figures also include 14 additional crew members from a Russian ship in the southeastern port of Busan.
There are a total of 29 crew members on board the vessel.
