Max is undercover as a truck driver carrying valuable electronics as three similar shipments have already been hijacked by KAOS. Max is duped out of his shipment as well, but is able to identify the hijacker except the Chief tells him that he's deceased. Morgue records confirm this but also shows who signed out the body: a mad KAOS scientist, Dr. Zharko (Tom Poston, who was originally considered for the role of Maxwell Smart) who may have figured out how to revive dead agents. Max and 99 head out to his Newfoundland hideout to stop him.

00:00This is Maxwell Smart calling control.
00:17Put me through to the chief.
00:20I'll get it.
00:27The chief, Max, go ahead.
00:30Gesundheit.
00:31I didn't sneeze, Max. I coughed.
00:33Where are you?
00:34Well, I just swung off the main highway about ten minutes ago.
00:37I'm approximately three miles from a place called Hotchkiss Corners.
00:41Good, Max. Now...
00:42Gesundheit.
00:43I'm not sneezing, Max. I'm coughing.
00:46Now, according to our tip, Chaos will attempt to hijack your truck somewhere in the next two miles.
00:51Don't worry, chief. I'll be ready for them.
00:52Now, remember, Max, Chaos has already hijacked three of these trucks filled with electronic equipment.
00:58Gesundheit.
01:00I'm not sneezing, Max. I'm coughing.
01:02Now, in order to find out what Chaos is up to with this equipment, we must take a prisoner for interrogation.
01:08Gotcha, chief.
01:09Now, Max, we're on a side road parallel to yours. As soon as you signal this, we'll close in.
01:14Hotch!
01:14That was a sneeze, Max.
01:18Oh, that's funny, chief. Sounded just like a cough. You're not catching cold, are you?
01:23No, Max.
01:24Oh. Well, if you are, there's something you ought to take.
01:27What's that?
01:28Steam.
01:28Good luck, Max.
01:35Larrabee, notify all units to stand by.
01:39Gesundheit, chief.
01:41Larrabee calling all units.
01:42I'm sorry, but my motor died, and I don't know anything about cars. Could you please take a look at it?
01:55Okay.
02:03Sure was lucky for me that you came along.
02:05How come you used this road? Not too many people know about it.
02:08Oh, the guy at the service station on the highway told me this was a shortcut. I sure appreciate your help.
02:13Oh, here's the lights.
02:15Sorry.
02:17It's quite all right.
02:19Now, let's see what we've got here.
02:21Well, of course, there's your trouble. Somebody disconnected your distributor cap.
02:26Really?
02:27Sure, this should be connected.
02:29That guy at the service station must have loosened that when he checked the engine.
02:33Can you fix it?
02:34Uh, yes, I think so.
02:38Look, if you don't mind, I can't work with somebody looking over my shoulder like that.
02:50I'm sorry. I'll, uh, I'll wait over here.
03:08I'll, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
03:38it's okay now well thanks a lot Mac I don't know what I would have done if you
03:47hadn't come along oh that's all right I got grease all over my hands and I want
03:52to get your gloves dirty now listen all you have to do is to let it idle for a
03:55few minutes then you can drive off right well thanks again
04:08this is Maxwell Smart calling control put me through to the chief
04:19go ahead Max ah chief for a moment it looked like I had contacted the hijacker but it turned out to
04:28be a guy whose car broke down Max are you sure it wasn't some kind of a trick I'm positive chief
04:34if it was the hijacker he would have stolen the truck and I wouldn't be sitting here now
04:37I guess you're right Max keep your eyes open huh right chief
04:42yeah
06:47How tall was he?
06:48Let's see, uh, five, eight, maybe nine.
06:52Make that ten.
06:53Suspect under six feet.
06:55Or over.
06:56What color were his eyes?
06:58Now, that was hard to tell, Chief.
06:59He was wearing dark glasses.
07:00What about his hair?
07:01He was wearing a hat.
07:02Did he have any noticeable scars?
07:03He was wearing a suit.
07:04Now, I mean on his hands or neck.
07:06He was wearing a scarf and gloves.
07:07Did you notice anything about him at all?
07:10He was a very snappy dresser.
07:14Larrabee, bring in the files on all chaos agents.
07:19No.
07:20No.
07:22No.
07:23And that's not him either.
07:26Well, that's it.
07:27Well, what about this file, Chief?
07:28No, Max, he wouldn't be in that file.
07:29Well, you never can tell.
07:30Max, I tell you, it's impossible for him to be...
07:32Wait a minute, Chief.
07:32That's him.
07:34Impossible.
07:35Why?
07:35Isn't he a chaos agent?
07:36Well, yes, but...
07:37Well, then give me one good reason why it couldn't be him.
07:40Because that man is dead.
07:42I asked you for a good reason, not a terrific one.
07:52Gentlemen, you say this is government business?
07:55The security and the future of the entire world may depend on it.
07:58Besides that, it's important.
08:00I'll get the reports on these four men from the files.
08:03Excuse me.
08:07I don't understand, Chief.
08:09I thought we were checking out the men who hijacked Max's truck.
08:12We are, 99.
08:13Well, what about the other three names on the list?
08:15Well, they're the men who hijacked the other three electronic trucks.
08:18Well, why are we checking them out at the morgue, Chief?
08:20Well, I talked with the drivers of the other three trucks
08:22and got the descriptions of the chaos agents who hijacked them.
08:25Well, don't tell me they were dead, too.
08:26They were dead, too.
08:27I asked you not to tell me that.
08:29All four of them were killed two months ago
08:32during an attempted robbery of Fort Knox.
08:34Wait a minute, Chief.
08:35I read about that case in the papers.
08:36Three guys went into Fort Knox
08:38and they got 600 pounds of gold bars,
08:41put them in a sack,
08:41dropped them from a roof
08:42to a guy who was waiting on the ground below.
08:44That's right, Max.
08:45And then all three guys on the roof were shot down.
08:47How'd the fourth man die, Max?
08:49He caught the sack.
08:51But, Chief, if all those men are dead,
08:53how could they possibly have hijacked those trucks?
08:56Unless I'm wrong, 99,
08:57and I certainly hope I am,
08:59chaos has found a way of bringing their dead agents back to life again.
09:03But if they can do that,
09:04it would be virtually impossible to wipe out chaos.
09:06Yes, but on the other hand, 99,
09:08if we can find out how they do it,
09:09it would be a boon to medical science.
09:11And my cousin Harvey.
09:13Your cousin Harvey?
09:14He's a cab driver.
09:16Max, how could a cab driver possibly benefit
09:18from bringing people back to life again?
09:20Harvey's a terrible driver.
09:23Here you are, sir.
09:25If you'll excuse me, I have some work to attend to.
09:28You've been most helpful.
09:28Excuse me, but I've always been curious.
09:32What makes a person want to work in a morgue?
09:34I like a job where you meet people.
09:36Just as I suspected,
09:44all four bodies were claimed within one hour after they were brought in.
09:47Do you know who claimed the bodies, Chief?
09:50They were all claimed by one person.
09:52Who was that, Chief?
09:53Dr. Eric Zarko.
09:55Dr. Zarko?
09:57Chaos's mad scientist?
09:58But, Chief, that's not possible.
10:00He was arrested by the Transylvania Highway Patrol
10:02over a year ago and executed.
10:04Well, that's probably when he decided
10:06to experiment with bringing people back to life.
10:09Well, he was dead?
10:10Well, he probably had a lot of time on his hands.
10:13Zarko's been working on this theory all his life.
10:15His getting captured and executed was the supreme test.
10:18Obviously, he succeeded.
10:19Well, what's our next move, Chief?
10:21Zarko once had a secret laboratory
10:24hidden in a cave on a small island
10:25just off the coast of Newfoundland.
10:27He must be working out of there.
10:28And you want 99 and me to find it?
10:31No, I want Harry Schwartz and his tailor to find him.
10:34Harry Schwartz and his tailor?
10:35Chief, don't you think 99...
10:36Max, come on!
10:38I'll leave immediately.
10:38I'll leave immediately.
10:38I'll leave immediately.
10:39I'll leave immediately.
10:58Zarko, this is Obler.
11:00Two more bodies are on their way to you.
11:02However, these will not arrive in coffins.
11:05They'll be walking in.
11:06Come on, 99.
11:3299, hurry up.
11:33If I knew you were going to tire so easily
11:34and be this slow,
11:35I wouldn't have brought you along with me.
11:36Help!
11:37Help!
11:38Two back then.
11:40How did you get over there?
11:41Well, you were walking so slowly
11:42I thought I'd scout up ahead.
11:44Any sign of Dr. Zarko's laboratory?
11:46No, not a sign of it, Max.
11:47We've been over every inch of this cave.
11:49Maybe the Chief was wrong.
11:51No, 99.
11:52I'm convinced that Dr. Zarko's laboratory
11:54is in this cave.
11:55And I think it's in that direction over there.
11:57But, Max, we've been in that direction.
11:58It's a dead end.
11:5999, I have an uncanny sense of direction.
12:03And I'm telling you
12:03that we haven't tried that direction before.
12:06Here.
12:06Aren't you going to use the torch?
12:07I don't need a torch, 99.
12:09I also have an uncanny sense
12:12of seeing in the dark.
12:17Follow me?
12:18Yes.
12:18Yes.
12:19No, no, no, no, no, no.
12:49You're right, Master?
12:53Yes, Bruce.
12:54Our guests have arrived.
12:56Throw the switch.
12:57Yes, Master.
12:58The switch.
13:03And pick up your feet when you walk.
13:12Max.
13:14Max, it's getting awfully late.
13:16You're right, 99.
13:17We'll go back to the village
13:19and search the caves
13:19the first thing in the morning.
13:22Help!
13:2399, you're trapped.
13:24But, Max, who would trap us?
13:26No one even knows we're here.
13:28Help!
13:34Well, we can be thankful
13:35for one thing, 99.
13:37What's that?
13:38Whoever captured us
13:39has a terrific sense of humor.
13:40So, Mr. Smart, we meet again.
14:06We've never met before.
14:08No?
14:09Oh, I thought we had.
14:10Must have been your brother.
14:12I don't have a brother.
14:14Would you like me to make you one?
14:18Uh, no, don't bother.
14:20Oh, it's no bother at all.
14:22I have everything I need right here.
14:24So, that's why Chaos
14:27has been hijacking
14:28all of those trucks.
14:29Yes, to supply me
14:31with the electronic equipment
14:32I need to continue
14:33my experiments.
14:34Then it's true.
14:36You really can bring people
14:37back from the dead.
14:38Yes, as long as I receive
14:40the bodies before
14:41rigor mortis sets in.
14:42Well, that lets Ed Sullivan out.
14:44By feeding small charges
14:46of electricity into the body,
14:48we reactivate the body functions
14:50when they're recharged.
14:52We continue feeding
14:53electricity into the body
14:54until it signals
14:55that it's ready
14:56to resume normal living.
14:58Is he dead?
14:59At the moment, yes.
15:01One month ago,
15:02this Chaos agent
15:03was ruthlessly murdered
15:04in cold blood.
15:05By who?
15:06Me.
15:07I was running short
15:08of subjects
15:09for my experimentation.
15:11That is why I was delighted
15:12to know you two
15:13were coming along.
15:15How did you know
15:16we were coming?
15:18Obler?
15:19Obler.
15:21Obler!
15:22Who?
15:23The morgue attendant
15:24Obler Max.
15:25Of course!
15:26The morgue attendant
15:27Obler Max!
15:28Well,
15:29now that you have us
15:31in your power,
15:31just what do you intend
15:32to do with us?
15:33You are going to be
15:34the guinea pigs
15:35for my new experiment.
15:37What experiment is that?
15:39Now that I have succeeded
15:41in bringing the dead
15:42back to life,
15:43I wish to be able
15:44to place the living
15:44in a state of
15:45suspended animation
15:47until I decide
15:49for them to live again.
15:50You mean you're going
15:51to put them in storage?
15:53Precisely.
15:54You can't do that.
15:56Why not?
15:57I have room in the back.
15:58You're crazy, Zarko.
16:00Now wait a minute, 99,
16:01if he's got a lot of room
16:02in the back.
16:03Max, he's mad!
16:05Mad!
16:07Mad am I?
16:09You say I'm mad!
16:12Don't do that!
16:15Do what?
16:20Master!
16:21Master!
16:22Storm!
16:23It's starting!
16:24Excellent!
16:25The lightning will give me
16:26the additional electricity
16:27I need.
16:28Bruce, prepare for the experiment.
16:30Yes, master.
16:32What are you going to do to us?
16:34I'm going to run
16:34enough electricity
16:35through your bodies
16:36to put you in a state
16:37of suspended animation
16:38for five years.
16:39You mean we're going
16:40to be asleep
16:41for five years?
16:42Correct.
16:43Oh, well do you mind
16:44if we slip into something
16:45a little more comfortable?
16:48Bruce, strap them
16:49to the table.
16:50I go to make ready.
17:01Listen, Bruce,
17:02you and I can make a deal.
17:03If you let us go free,
17:04I'll see that you get
17:05a lot of money.
17:06I have no use for money.
17:08Oh, well how about
17:09a pair of orthopedic shoes?
17:15Oh!
17:16Good work, Marex.
17:19Are we next
17:20before Zarkovic's back?
17:22We can just find
17:23our way out of here, 99.
17:24Which way, Marex?
17:50He's after us, 99.
17:51Take this and get over there
17:52by that wall.
17:53Fine, Marex.
17:53Fine, Marex.
17:54Fine, Marex.
18:06Fine, Marex.
18:07Hold it, Bruce!
18:37Look how tall you are!
18:42You're all better!
18:44Thank you very much!
18:46You're welcome!
18:48Max, up ahead!
19:02It's another trap door, 99.
19:05Where do you think this one leads?
19:07I don't care, as long as it doesn't go to Dr. Zarko's lab.
19:17Max!
19:18We've made a complete circle!
19:20I do not like to be kept waiting, Mr. Smart.
19:22Now get on the table.
19:24What?
19:25I said get on the table.
19:27It's time for beddy-bye.
19:29Oh, well, we're not tired.
19:31You are going to sleep for five years.
19:35Look, couldn't we stay up and watch television for a little while?
19:39Get on the table!
19:48Bruce, where are you, you fool?
19:50The storm is at its peak.
19:52Yes, master.
19:53Uh, Bruce, what's happened to you?
19:55It's the little me.
19:56How do you like it?
19:57Wonderful!
19:58Congratulations!
19:59Now, for my greatest experiment.
20:06Billions of volts of electricity, and it's all in my command.
20:11Where is the extension cord?
20:13Right here, master.
20:15Right.
20:16Connect it.
20:17And now, Mr. and Mrs. Smart, the experiment I've waited a lifetime for.
20:27Oh, what's the matter?
20:29An attack of rheumatism.
20:30Oh, darn the dampness in this cave.
20:34Well, Dr. Sarko, I guess now you won't be able to continue with your little experiment after all.
20:39Wrong, Mr. Smart.
20:40You see, I have also discovered a cure for rheumatism.
20:45Bruce!
20:46Yes, master.
20:57And now, Bruce, the generator.
20:59Yes, master.
21:00The generator.
21:05Oh, poor Max.
21:06How are you going to go to sleep without your teddy bear?
21:08The voltage will automatically increase.
21:09Within ten minutes, you will be shocked into a state of suspended animation.
21:22This is a glorious moment, master.
21:24Yes, a moment that calls for music.
21:27Tonight, Bruce, you shall play with me.
21:30Please.
21:31Let me help you.
21:43Max will never break this strap.
21:44I've got an idea, 99.
21:45Lean your head a little closer.
21:58Hurry, Max.
21:59Hurry, Max.
22:00Hurry.
22:01Hurry.
22:02That's it.
22:03Hurry, Max.
22:04Hurry, Max.
22:05Hurry, they're almost finished.
22:06You've almost got it.
22:07Max, they've finished.
22:08One more time.
22:09One more time.
22:10Hurry, you've got it.
22:11Go, go.
22:12Go.
22:13Go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
22:14Go, go, go!
22:15Go, go, go, go, go, go!
22:16Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
22:17Hurry, they're almost finished.
22:29You've almost got it.
22:34Max, they finished.
22:36One more time.
22:42Max.
22:47Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
22:58Fuck, Master!
22:59Keep going, Eddie, and I'll slow them down.
23:01Stop them!
23:05Look out!
23:06That's nitroglycerin!
23:07If you drop that, it will blow up an area equal to 2,000 megatons over the mass of the non-fissionable materials.
23:14How big an area is that?
23:15About the size of this room.
23:18A farewell gift, gentlemen.
23:26Well, I guess that's the end of Dr. Zarco, Max.
23:29Yes.
23:30If only he had used his genius for niceness instead of evil.
23:34Think of all the great people he could have brought back to life.
23:37Just think, Max.
23:38Jefferson, Lincoln, Schweitzer, Einstein.
23:42And Schubert, especially Schubert.
23:44Schubert? Why Schubert?
23:45He could have finished his symphony.
23:47He could have finished his symphony.
23:47He could have finished his symphony.
23:51Of course, I'm so sorry.
23:54Huh?
23:55Did that happen?
23:56Yes.
23:57Who are you, Nick?
23:57He could have finished his symphony.
23:58He could have finished it.
24:00He could have finished his symphony.
24:00I have rung.
24:01I haven't fed hisân bh встреч.
24:02I've so much appreciated alent and followed Mary on with Frankly producing himself.
24:03Which jeeps his symphony will be doing, if you were made as of today.
24:04I've got to beκεed, I've got my that head.
24:05I have to be made for my family.
24:07And I've had to be a ter Earnest player.
24:09Who has ever been.
24:10I have to be a tertiary now before Interesting person.
24:12I've got just said, hey, and are you, chicks have told me how to do it.
