00:00Leaving it like this is already too beautiful, then...
00:04You're giving me shit, right?
00:07900,000 miles is what's coming in today.
00:10We have a customer coming in with a 900,000-mile Ford 6.7-liter power stroke.
00:15Basically unheard of.
00:17That a guy has used to transport stuff all across the country.
00:20He has the original CP4 pump that came off the engine when they tore it out.
00:24So we're gonna inspect that and see how that looks.
00:27Apparently all he's used is fuel additive to keep the thing going.
00:30So we're gonna see after 900,000 miles what it looks like.
00:32But it's the original one.
00:34Never do a dang thing to it as far as replacing it, converting it, anything like that.
00:38The engine had some sort of failure.
00:40So we're gonna dive into that at some point and see what happened to finally kill this thing after 900,000 miles.
00:47But I'm way excited to see how the system looks.
00:50That's a lot of miles.
00:51Let's check it out.
00:52We're gonna tear down the pump, see what it looks like.
00:54But no fuel issues prior to the engine failure.
00:57Other than at 670,000, I replaced the fuel injectors.
01:02Okay, okay.
01:03For the first time.
01:04But you replaced them not because of a contaminated system?
01:07No, because they were already, they were doing the turbo.
01:10Okay.
01:10And they were kind of into it.
01:11And I said, they've got a lot of miles on the injectors.
01:14Why don't we just replace those two over there?
01:16Okay.
01:16And they took them out and they said, you might not even need to do this because they were still sold where they weren't carbon.
01:20Really?
01:21Okay.
01:22And your secret is good additive?
01:24Good additive and using it.
01:26As you probably know, and maybe a lot of your customers don't, these diesel trucks need to be run every day.
01:33Every day.
01:33They sit, doesn't like it.
01:36Right.
01:36They want to be run.
01:37So 892, 316, 316.
01:42Let's see what the pump looks like.
01:46So usually when a pump fails, this is one of the first things that we'll take off.
01:52And we call it a glitter party, but there will be tons of aluminum or metal around that.
01:58And so far, yours looks great.
02:00Okay.
02:07Do you need any of this back for a core?
02:27Okay.
02:28Cool.
02:29Thank you.
02:30We might want it back for a display though.
02:33Yes.
02:33Yeah.
02:34The display for sure.
02:36Yeah.
02:37The other, the only special thing I think I did was fuel filters.
02:43Anytime I changed the insane diesel fuel, oil filter, change the fuel filter.
02:49So every single time.
02:49How often were your intervals?
02:52When I first started, 5,000, 10,000, 5,000, 10,000.
02:56Then I'm up to, I was up to 15,000.
02:58So every 15,000 miles.
03:00And, and how come you built up to that 15,000 just because you were, were you doing oil sample tests?
03:04Oil analysis.
03:05Okay.
03:05Yeah.
03:05And at 15, I still didn't need to change the oil, but I just didn't feel comfortable.
03:09Really?
03:10Not saying it's not possible because I've done them to 27 when I knew my engine started to fail.
03:15Right.
03:15Because I was going to need a new engine anyway.
03:17Might as well see what I can do.
03:18And I got up to 27,000 with the engine going bad.
03:21I still got up that high.
03:22Oh my goodness.
03:23Yeah.
03:23Okay.
03:24Without needing it.
03:25That's incredible.
03:26Yeah.
03:26I mean, we're 5,000 for us on most just stock, no modifications.
03:325,000 is pushing it.
03:34The fact that you were able to consistently go 15 is a testament.
03:38And at 15, it's tested like 90%, 95% as good as it was tested at 5 or 10.
03:45Really?
03:46So it's not even that it was closed.
03:47Right.
03:48I just didn't feel comfortable.
03:49Yeah.
03:49Yeah.
03:50It's a scary thing to go that far.
03:52Well, it's a lot of money to deal with for something that's going to cost me 200 bucks.
03:55Right.
03:56You know, pay 200 bucks or 35,000.
03:58So you were doing oil and filter or oil and fuel filter.
04:02Anytime the filter came out.
04:03So if they had to do work on the oil pan and they only had 5,000 miles on the oil.
04:08Okay.
04:09New fuel filters at the same time.
04:10Anytime it came out, fuel filters went back into anything.
04:13So you were doing the insane diesel filter, but then what would you run like a, like your
04:18stock location filter?
04:20Just the Ford.
04:21The Ford one?
04:21Yeah.
04:22The Ford brand.
04:22Yeah.
04:22Okay.
04:23Which is a great filter.
04:24Yeah.
04:25That's typical.
04:25Yeah.
04:26I mean, I want to switch to the fast system at some point, but I'll probably still keep some
04:31of the Ford, I think stays intact with that.
04:32Yes.
04:33But I want to switch to that at some point, but I just haven't.
04:36I just did a big expenditure.
04:38So pick and choose.
04:43And for those, those, those, it's still not perfect.
04:49Mm-hmm.
04:50It's still not perfect.
04:51Oh, really?
04:51Yeah.
04:52Amazing.
04:52It looks great.
04:55You can see the lobe inside of it.
05:02It looks not really anywhere.
05:05It looks polished.
05:06Yeah.
05:07That's, that's the way it's supposed to look when it comes out of the box.
05:12Wow.
05:13Oh, pretty close.
05:14You probably, there's probably, you could see like very slight lines, but I mean.
05:18Nice.
05:19Oh my gosh.
05:19That's kind of like, it's kind of like a crankshaft.
05:21I mean, you're going to see a little bit wear, but it's, it looks fine.
05:25I'm blown away.
05:26I'm absolutely blown away.
05:30That's incredible.
05:32And here's, here's the other one.
05:34Yeah.
05:35I mean, super, super light with what you just did at 900,000 miles with this.
05:42I've, we see pumps go out at 40,000 miles.
05:46You know, usually before that they're under warranty or the trucks are just so new that
05:51we don't see them so, but we've seen trucks 40,000 miles and they don't look like this.
06:00Wow.
06:01Cool.
06:01That, that's some good show and tell right there.
06:04That's impressive.
06:05We thought you'd like that.
06:06I'm waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out and be like, punked.
06:08Yeah.
06:09Yeah.
06:09Nice.
06:10This really isn't a 900,000.
06:12This is a brand new truck.
06:14Yeah.
06:14It makes a big difference by increasing the electricity of your, of your diesel fuel that you run through
06:19the truck
06:19Yeah.
06:20Yeah.
06:20Well, that's why we converted the pumps and stuff like that is to get rid because of these
06:25require so much lubrication with, with that high lift and the way that they designed this
06:30and the way that it can aerate that fuel and cause that cavitation.
06:34It's, that's why these pumps don't work so well.
06:39And I'm buying my fuel coast to coast too.
06:42It's not like going to one spot.
06:43Right.
06:44So, but I do go to truck stops and I fill up where the big rigs fill up.
06:49Right.
06:49Because I take, I can take, I can hold 170 gallons of fuel.
06:53So I need the high fuel pumps.
06:55Right.
06:55That could have maybe something to do with it too, but I think it's mainly the additive
06:59and run it constantly.
07:0119,896 hours.
07:03Holy cow.
07:04Engine idle hours, 4,700.
07:09Wow.
07:09Because I sleep in there while I'm working.
07:11So yeah.
07:11In the winter.
07:12Yeah.
07:12And they said they've seen never anybody maintain their truck as much as I do.
07:16I do a little over what they, oh, I do a lot over what the manual says.
07:21Cause I've seen on your videos, they always tell you just trying to get you through.
07:24Right.
07:24And, um, but I don't stand by that.
07:27I want it to last.
07:27It's my livelihood.
07:28If it's not running, I'm not making any money.
07:30I can't pay my bills.
07:31Like, you know.
07:31Right.
07:32Right.
07:32So, you know, if I have to pay a little extra maintenance, make it a little less money,
07:36it's better than making no money.
07:38Yeah.
07:38Which I would be if I didn't maintain it.
07:40Well, the number one reason that we use engines is because of lack of maintenance.
07:43I mean, then, then there's second and third place kind of things, but if people just maintain
07:49it and you're, you're the, the opposite of that spectrum, I mean, you're, you're one
07:54that maintains it religiously, but yeah, we wouldn't do half as many engines as we do
07:59if people just maintain it and just change you.
08:01Well, like that's a, you maintain, I'm busy.
08:04Yeah.
08:04Yeah.
08:05Yeah.
08:05I mean, really, really, we, we promote that and people are like, well, wouldn't that lose
08:08your business?
08:09We're like, yes.
08:10If people just maintain it, yes, we would, we would have a lot less business.
08:14But people don't.
08:16Can't afford not to maintain it.
08:17Right.
08:18Yeah.
08:18You've got places to be.
08:19You know, if I was independently wealthy, sure.
08:21Whatever.
08:21Right.
08:21Do what I do.
08:22And boom.
08:22Hey, Dave, I need another motor.
08:24Right.
08:24Can we pick it up in two months?
08:25Sure.
08:25Okay.
08:26Right.
08:26Right.
08:27But I'm not.
08:28Maintenance pays off.
08:29Yeah.
08:29So just to kind of with this gentleman and my son, we're talking about lubricity, diesel
08:35fuel additive is a prevention measure.
08:38It doesn't fix anything.
08:39If your pump's already failed, it's like changing the oil on your engine if your rod
08:43bearing's gone out.
08:44It's not going to fix the rod bearing.
08:46But adding the lubricity and the cleaners to your diesel fuel is the best insurance you'll
08:52have to prolong the life of the pump.
08:55And this gentleman's got close to a million miles.
08:57The engine blew up, but the pump still looked pristine.
09:00Enrique.
09:02Hi.
09:04How you doing?
09:04Nice to meet you.
09:05Nice to meet you.
09:06Who's this?
09:07This is Duke.
09:08Duke.
09:09It's my wife, Tiffany.
09:12Hello.
09:12Hi, Tiffany.
09:13Hi.
09:14So, Enrique, I heard you won one of the bikes.
09:17Yeah.
09:17And you live locally, which is amazing.
09:19Yeah.
09:19Well, out west in Grantsville.
09:22Okay.
09:22So, that's pretty local.
09:24That's pretty local, right?
09:25We've got some that I've got to ship all the way to the East Coast.
09:28And can I ask you what it was that you purchased to get your points?
09:33A little hat.
09:33A hat.
09:34Oh, sweet.
09:35That's a nice hat, right?
09:36That is a nice hat, dude.
09:38I like that hat.
09:39I think it's sweet.
09:41I think it's the coolest looking one.
09:42It is.
09:43You got a little one at home?
09:44No.
09:45All our kids are grown, and we don't have any grandkids yet.
09:49Okay.
09:49So, we might just keep it and run it around camp this summer.
09:56I'm voting for that for the grandkids.
09:58I'm voting for that, man.
09:59You got to keep it.
10:00Somebody's going to have fun with it.
10:01Yeah.
10:01Anyway, thank you.
10:03Thank you for coming out, and Merry Christmas to you.
10:05Merry Christmas to you.
10:06Appreciate it.
10:07Yep.
10:07I was talking to some of your mechanics, and I just gave them some tips.
10:17I just told them it may look like they were idling too long.
10:20So, just to...
10:24You're giving me shit, right?
10:27It takes a minute.
10:28Because this has got that CP4 pump.
10:30Uh-huh.
10:30Is that one that they always say kind of craps out on people?
10:34They crap out all the time.
10:35And then to do an oil analysis, what does that take?
10:39Well, the oil analysis will tell you about your CP4.
10:42Okay.
10:42Because that's fuel.
10:43You know, just do the disaster prevention kit on it.
10:46It bypasses the fuel getting into the bottom crankcase.
10:50You know, it helps to avoid the grenade problem if it ever grenades.
10:53And then just check your fuel filter, and then, you know, check it with a microscope.
10:57But the CP4 has a really high-lift cam in it, the crank.
11:01You know, it's really taking that roller piston, and it's really shoving it up.
11:06I mean, the ramp on that is very tall.
11:10And so there's a huge amount of pressure.
11:13Because this pump will pump 30,000 PSI.
11:16I mean, it's a serious hydraulic pump.
11:19And to get that ramp and that pressure to go up like that, you know,
11:24you've got a pretty steep ramp on that crankshaft that's pushing that roller cam.
11:28But there's no, like, telltale sign of it's going bad.
11:32Or, I mean, I've got 140,000 miles on this.
11:35There really is.
11:36I mean, you can pull your fuel filter off, and if you find it, it's like, okay,
11:39the damage is happening.
11:41Replace the pump, change the filter, keep your fingers crossed.
11:44But the best thing to do is just go ahead and do that disaster kit.
11:48A lot of people, the disaster kit minimum, or just upgrade it to a CP3 or DCR, you know.
11:54Yeah, change it out.
11:55Okay.
11:56Yeah.
11:56Prevention is the best medicine.
11:58That's why I'm always talking.
11:59You know, I'm the guy that says, I'm an engine shop.
12:01But I'm telling people, do your maintenance.
12:03You know, and if your engine builder's telling you to do your maintenance, which I don't really do.
12:08I'm not an oil change shop.
12:10You know, you might want to listen to him, because I could go, I could actually talk myself out of business.
12:14I'm like the heart surgeon tells you, look, quit drinking, quit smoking, exercise every day,
12:21and, you know, and do some breathing work and stuff like that.
12:24And if you did that, you know, you probably would avoid the heart surgeon.
12:28Well, and I think that's why so many people like your channel, is because you're pretty honest and kind of upcoming with that information.
12:37Like, hey, if you do this stuff, you're going to avoid seeing, spending money with me.
12:41Coming to see you.
12:42And, I mean, I love my business, and it's grown from a storage shed to what it is today.
12:46So, people, you know, I mean, I'm always going to be needed, but I'd like to be needed a little less, I guess is what I'm saying, you know.
12:54I want to be helped on, you know, things that I need help on.
12:57Right, right.
12:58So, anyway, it's a good question.
13:00Thanks for asking.
13:01But that's my reasoning for the diesel fuel additive.
13:04That's my reason for, you know, the CP4 disaster prevention kit.
13:09You know, if we can prevent stuff by spending a little money, yes, maintenance.
13:13You know, I understand it costs money, but it is always cheaper than the repair.
13:18I mean, seriously, you double up your oil changes in 200,000 miles on a truck,
13:22or you just, like, you just say, screw that, man.
13:25I'm doing a model change every 10,000, 15,000 miles.
13:28I'm not doing it.
13:29You know, the difference in cost is compared to an engine.
13:33You want me to do the math for you?
13:35You know, I mean, you know, some people, they're like, and I'm like, trust me, man.
13:39Just do it.
13:40It's so much cheaper, and it's the same way with the fuel additive.
13:43If I were you, I would change your fuel filter.
13:46I would look at it, do the disaster prevention kit, and then do the fuel additive.
13:52Okay.
13:52Just add some lubrication.
13:53Awesome.
13:54Thanks again, buddy.
13:54Thank you.
13:55Go get warm inside.
13:56Yeah, I will.
13:59So, there it is.
14:00I'm so grateful.
14:01I got to meet Enrique.
14:02He lives out here in the desert, just west of us, and one of our winners, one of the nine
14:08winners of our motorcycles, but listen, you've still got five days left.
14:12We're doing the giveaway on our Jeep, the Gladiator, fully decked out, supercharged,
14:17winch, bumpers, racks.
14:20So, we're releasing the video tomorrow of all the items that we've added to this Gladiator,
14:27and so be considered for that, but you've got five days left for this giveaway.
14:31Somebody's going to win it.
