00:00Deep in the heart of Cabin Country,
00:03where the days are long and the nights are cold,
00:07a remote stretch of beach has been transformed
00:10into the ultimate playing field.
00:12I'm Brian Baumler.
00:13And I'm Scott McGillivray.
00:15The Greatest Renovation Competition is back.
00:18Oh, boy!
00:19Let's go!
00:20Come on!
00:23This competition is about to begin.
00:25Four pro builder designer teams from across North America
00:29are set to battle on our biggest stage yet.
00:32It's a test of will and skill.
00:35We're gonna win this.
00:36Their mission?
00:37To transform four brand-new vacation properties
00:39into stunning all-season resort homes in just eight weeks.
00:43What happened?
00:44Oh, no.
00:45I just lost us this challenge.
00:47Set against a ticking clock.
00:48You're 40 minutes behind!
00:52The team with the best vacation home
00:54will win a game-changing prize of $100,000.
00:58And the title of Renovation Resort Champions.
01:01We can't screw this up.
01:02I got it, babe.
01:04Tensions are definitely high.
01:05Should we even be trying to do this?
01:08This is very cool.
01:09I feel like I'm in Alice in Wonderland a little bit.
01:12And to do it with my best friend?
01:14This is beautiful.
01:15Oh, wow.
01:16Welcome to the most epic design and build battle ever.
01:20Go!
01:21Hit the gas!
01:22Yeah!
01:23This is Renovation Resort Showdown.
01:31Get cleaned up for this.
01:32I'm all dressed up.
01:33Then let's get this competition started and meet the teams.
01:36She's a self-taught designer and he's a seasoned builder.
01:39Married soulmates and new parents from Toronto, Ontario,
01:42Camille and Chris.
01:44How you feeling?
01:45Feels really surreal.
01:46Pretty good.
01:47A little nervous.
01:48A little nervous, a little stoked.
01:49Yeah.
01:50That's a good start.
01:51She runs a successful interior design company and he is her
01:54savvy general contractor.
01:56Partners in life and business from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
01:59Rashida and Jake.
02:01How are you feeling?
02:02Great.
02:03Oh, we're so excited to be here.
02:04Super excited.
02:05She's a dedicated designer and entrepreneur.
02:08He's a skilled and creative contractor.
02:11This daughter-dad duo co-own a design-build renovation company.
02:15From Orangeville, Ontario, it's Holly and Graham.
02:18How did we get into business together?
02:19She saw how hard I was working so she said he needs some help.
02:23And finally, she's an interior stylist and she's a DIY woodworker
02:28and home improvement expert.
02:29Close friends and inseparable allies from Charlotte, North Carolina,
02:34Melissa and Shannon.
02:35Hi!
02:36Hi!
02:37Hello!
02:38Hello!
02:39Hello!
02:40Hello!
02:41How are we feeling?
02:42So good.
02:43I'm overwhelmed by it all.
02:44Welcome to Renovation Resort.
02:45Is everybody ready to go head to head in the ultimate renovation competition?
02:54Oh yeah.
02:55We're ready.
02:56We're ready.
02:57Let's get it.
02:58Your mission is to turn this resort into a destination by working your magic
03:02on these four vacation homes.
03:05Each two-level home has a front room and an entry, a kitchen, a great room,
03:09three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a rec room, and a generous amount of outdoor living space.
03:16All four properties back on and walk out to this beautiful waterfront.
03:21Amazing.
03:22Wow.
03:23So rain or shine, your task is to turn these four homes into four season vacation rentals,
03:29and you've got only eight weeks to do it.
03:32Each week you will be renovating a new space, and we will be judging the results.
03:36We'll be joined by expert guest judges along the way.
03:39And we will be checking in on you regularly to assess the quality, the functionality, and the creativity of your work.
03:45And you all have a budget of $150,000.
03:50Yep.
03:51And it's up to you where to use it, so be careful.
03:53When all is said and done, the duo with the best home will win the bragging rights and the title of renovation resort champions.
04:00But that's not all.
04:02The winners will also take home a game-changing prize of $100,000.
04:10The first space that you will be working on is the primary bedroom and primary bathroom.
04:23And you have one week to finish this space.
04:27Oh, my gosh.
04:28Wow.
04:29Wow.
04:30You've all been given a randomly assigned key for the vacation home that you'll be working on.
04:34Is everybody ready?
04:35Yeah!
04:36Okay, then let's get to work.
04:38Look how big these places are.
04:42Amazing.
04:43What number do we have?
04:44Number three.
04:45Three.
04:46Four.
04:47Two.
04:48All right.
04:49Let's go.
04:50We're number one.
04:51Let's go.
04:52So exciting.
04:53Oh, my gosh.
04:55Look how tall the ceilings are.
04:57I love that.
04:58Wow.
04:59Unbelievable.
05:00Wow.
05:01These places are awesome.
05:02That's amazing.
05:03This is amazing.
05:04Yeah!
05:05Oh, man.
05:06Oh, this is nice.
05:10This is the primary.
05:12Let's make a big impact and let's do a floor to ceiling fireplace.
05:15So Jake and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Philadelphia.
05:18Never met each other until we went away to college an hour away.
05:22And we ended up having the same classes because we were both marketing majors.
05:26And she wanted to cheat off my work.
05:27Oh, my gosh.
05:28You totally cheated off my work.
05:30But I let them because I thought it was cute.
05:33We've been married for 17 years together for 22.
05:36And we've got two children.
05:37And we've been working together now for about six years.
05:40Our style for the competition is opulent oasis, calm and relaxing.
05:46Everyone deserves luxury.
05:48In the primary bedroom, let's go dark on the walls and on the ceiling to bring some drama.
05:53I want to add some gold hardware just to give it a luxe touch.
05:57We're going to do a porcelain tile fireplace for those cold winter nights with the seating area.
06:02In the primary bath, I think I want to go bold with a wallpaper mural and a double vanity.
06:08I want the shower to feel luxurious with large black marble tiles, gold fixtures, and let's enclose it with glass.
06:16Not worried?
06:17Moderately worried.
06:18Moderately.
06:19But have I ever let you down?
06:21You have not.
06:24This is our first challenge.
06:25This is our first challenge.
06:26It's a moneymaker, baby.
06:27This is it.
06:28So we need to have function, but it also needs to wow.
06:30I am a builder.
06:31And I own an interior design firm.
06:33A dramatic effect when you walk in here.
06:35The design inspiration for our house is the global getaway.
06:39It's bold.
06:40It's eclectic.
06:41There's no one design style, so we can have as much fun as we want.
06:45Whatever you're picturing, I got you.
06:47We're friends.
06:48Yeah.
06:49We're buds.
06:50We are each other's biggest fans.
06:51We are each other's biggest supporters.
06:52We're both entrepreneurs.
06:53We're both running our businesses.
06:54We're both doing the things we love, and we're able to help each other.
06:57For the primary bedroom, maybe we'll color-drench the walls like a blue-green flooring.
07:02Dark vinyl.
07:03And a king bed, of course.
07:05Tall headboard, maybe in an olive green velvet.
07:08Then a sitting area.
07:09Just keeping it really, really cozy.
07:11So in the primary bathroom, I think we can go lighter, bright, and airy.
07:14Double vanity, double mirror.
07:16Custom wallpaper on all the walls.
07:18Vertical tile in the shower.
07:20And we're going to bring in that vinyl flooring from the bedroom.
07:23I'm super.
07:24It's going to be cool!
07:29Oh, the primary bedroom.
07:31Oh, the primary bedroom.
07:32This is a room where you can really show off our skills.
07:34Absolutely.
07:35Holly is our firstborn, and I think Holly is a lot like her dad.
07:39Oh, yeah, yeah.
07:40I carry his hard work.
07:42Not really a lot of giving up.
07:43And a lot of stubbornness.
07:45Yeah, okay, sure.
07:46You should kind of feel like you're in your own little oasis.
07:49Our design theme is heritage homestead.
07:51Nostalgic or vintage, but still a little bit fresh.
07:55The inspiration for our house is a rug that my granny hooked.
07:59It's wool that my granny hand-dyed.
08:01The colors are beautiful and organic-looking,
08:03so you'll see them featured throughout the whole house.
08:06She was just the most artistic, creative person I have ever known,
08:10and I just want to sort of honor her memory.
08:13Your granny has been gone for over a decade,
08:14but her effects on the family have never left.
08:17Picking up on our inspiration rug,
08:19the primary bedroom walls will be neutral, soothing tones with earthy accents.
08:23Let's do a big platform bed with round-edged side tables for a softer feel.
08:27A plush rug will anchor the room with a cozy texture.
08:30In the primary bathroom, let's maximize the space by using a single vanity.
08:34I want to use large hexagon-shaped tile on the floor so it feels impressive.
08:38Then, a shower with rich green walls for a dramatic pop, a rainfall shower head,
08:43and a knee wall with a glass surround to keep it feeling open.
08:46This feels like a lot of work for seven days.
08:52We've got to make this room magic.
08:54My design for this house is English country-inspired.
08:57I'm really attracted to casual and relaxed, but a little bit over the top at the same time.
09:03Really, and like mixed prints and everything is perfectly imperfect.
09:07I would love to add some crown molding.
09:09Really?
09:10Yeah, that'd be nice, no?
09:11We've known each other nine years now and been married for two.
09:14We just had a kid.
09:16Baby Leo.
09:17Baby Leo.
09:18Just a little cutie. I'm obsessed with him.
09:19There's really no other designer I'd rather work with than my wife.
09:22Obviously, there's tough times. We fight all the time.
09:25Sometimes, we don't leave work at work.
09:27I get all my best ideas in the middle of the night or at 10 p.m.
09:30So, I'm like, hey, babe, do you think we can do that?
09:32Yeah.
09:33And he's like, talk to me tomorrow.
09:34Yeah, let's shut that down.
09:35Let me say I'm excited about this one.
09:37It's a big room, so I want to go with a four-post bed.
09:40For classic accents, I would love to add crown molding in here as well as side tables.
09:44A refurbished armoire will hide the TV, and I want to wallpaper the inside of the doors.
09:49I also want to carry the blue color palette into the primary bath with the tile work and add a half wall for the shower.
09:54I love a classic white vanity and gold fixtures.
09:57We have a boatload of work to do.
09:59Yeah.
10:00Yeah.
10:02Renovation resort competition has begun.
10:06Why don't we get things started by throwing a little wrench in their plan?
10:10Let's do it.
10:11Okay, teams.
10:12Come and meet Brian and I down by the waterfront, please.
10:15Come on down.
10:16Let's go home.
10:17All right.
10:18Let's go home.
10:19What is going on?
10:20Woo!
10:21Yeah!
10:22I think they're going to throw us for a loop.
10:23I mean, that's what they do, right?
10:24That's what they're here for.
10:25Stand in front of your home numbers.
10:28Wow.
10:29Yeah.
10:30I'm sure you're eager to get started.
10:31Yes.
10:32And in order to do so, you're going to need your tools.
10:34To get your tools, you must first successfully navigate a wrench in this competition.
10:39What is a wrench, you ask?
10:41It is a task designed to test your abilities and your communication skills.
10:46Ready?
10:47All right.
10:48And to reward the victors with an advantage.
10:49This wrench is a Renault Relay race.
10:52Oh.
10:53Oh.
10:54Behind you are nine clues, each naming a construction tool or design item.
10:59You will pick the first clue.
11:01One teammate will run to the giant toolbox, find the correct item and return it.
11:06Once you have the correct item, you will swap.
11:08Pull the next clue.
11:09The next teammate will run and get the next item.
11:11The first two teams to successfully collect all of their items will get their garage key.
11:16Once you've got access to your garage, you can race up, get your tools, get to work.
11:20Brian and I have two of your garage keys, but the other two, they're over there.
11:25In those red toolboxes on the island.
11:27Oh my gosh.
11:28Oh my gosh, it's for real?
11:31Yeah, it's for real.
11:32How are we going to get over there?
11:34There's a bridge, but it's about a kilometer round trip.
11:37So the first team done is probably going to have about an hour head start on the last team finished.
11:42I'm not going.
11:43We have to win.
11:44I'm not going.
11:45Is everybody ready to get started?
11:46Yeah!
11:47Yeah!
11:48Get your clue in three, two, one.
11:54Go!
11:55Hit the gas!
11:56This sets the bar that we are the team to beat.
11:58You guys are putting it in upside down?
12:01It feels like I let Melissa down.
12:03We don't have any time to be creative.
12:05You're 40 minutes behind.
12:07Just trying to figure it out.
12:12Okay teams, come and meet Brian and I down by the waterfront please.
12:16Let's go home.
12:17Go!
12:19This wrench is a Renault Relay Race.
12:24The first two teams to successfully collect all of their items will get their garage key.
12:28Once you've got access to your garage, you can race up, get your tools, get to work.
12:32Brian and I have two of your garage keys.
12:35But the other two, they're over there.
12:37In those red toolboxes on the island.
12:39Oh my God!
12:41Is everybody ready to get started?
12:43Yeah!
12:44Yeah!
12:45Get your clue in three, two, one, go!
12:48Go!
12:49Speed squid.
12:50Wool fabric.
12:51P-trap.
12:52Holly's off.
12:53Oh, Chris is off already.
12:55You're running.
12:56You're running.
12:57I'm not running.
12:58Oh boy.
13:03Phillips.
13:04That's the one.
13:05Any time they say there's an opportunity for advantage, we have to win it.
13:08Yeah!
13:09I don't even know what D-trap is.
13:10Like plumbing.
13:11It's got to do with plumbing.
13:12What do you got?
13:13D-trap?
13:14No!
13:15Oh my God!
13:16I'm not a plumber!
13:17I'm sorry!
13:18Herringbone tile.
13:19Go baby!
13:20You can do this!
13:21It is so important for us to win this because this sets the bar that we are the team to
13:26beat.
13:27Herringbone tile.
13:28Ding, ding, ding.
13:29That's a one.
13:30Chalk line.
13:31Come on, Cam!
13:32You got it, babe!
13:33String out the end!
13:34Got it!
13:35Tammy and Chris, they're already further ahead than everyone else.
13:39Wool fabric.
13:40Okay, okay.
13:41Woo!
13:42Come on, Hals.
13:43I'm sorry, man.
13:44Wool fabric.
13:45Nope, that's not it.
13:46Wool.
13:47From a sheep.
13:48Holly and Graham are far behind.
13:50I don't think they have a shot of winning this.
13:53A plumbob?
13:54Plumbob?
13:55No, no.
13:56Just go.
13:57A plumbob?
13:58It's cylindrical like this.
13:59It's brass.
14:00I don't know what a plumbob is.
14:01What is that?
14:02Plumbob?
14:03No.
14:04It's brass!
14:05Cylindrical in shape!
14:06Nobody knows what a plumbob is!
14:08That's it!
14:09That's it!
14:10Let's go!
14:11Let's go!
14:12Go!
14:13Hit the gas!
14:14No!
14:15What are we looking for?
14:16No!
14:17Plumbob.
14:18You've been around for 2,000 years?
14:20Yeah, since you're a baby.
14:21Go on, Dash!
14:22Graham had no issue identifying the plumbob.
14:24I think I got it.
14:25Is that it?
14:26Oh!
14:27That was really hidden!
14:28P-trap!
14:29Scott, we got a winner!
14:31No way!
14:32House floor number one.
14:33We get our tools first, so we can start work before anybody else.
14:36Unbelievable.
14:37Holly and Graham shows you that cool and calm is what's going to get you a lead here.
14:41Woo!
14:42We gotta take advantage of it.
14:43Let's go build!
14:44Go!
14:45Go!
14:46Go!
14:47We almost got it!
14:48Yes!
14:49We got our first two home, Scott!
14:50We're number two.
14:51Come on, come on, come on, come on!
14:52Come on, babe!
14:53Okay, go, go, go, go!
14:54Go, go, go!
14:55The plumbob sucked my will to live!
14:57Oh!
14:58Yeah!
14:59Are you guys done?
15:00Oh, you were so close!
15:02We didn't win.
15:03Good luck!
15:04And now we have to go to the island.
15:06Ah!
15:07The last item.
15:09One more to go.
15:10All right, we're there, we're there.
15:12We're on the board!
15:13To the island!
15:14Good luck!
15:19The crown molding is going to bring so much character to this room.
15:21I agree.
15:22Because it's a new build, I feel like you need to add those little details to make it look old.
15:26It's been many years since I've done crown molding.
15:29I have this weakness, I just cannot say no to her.
15:31So...
15:32Awesome, looks so good, babe.
15:34Hey!
15:35Hey!
15:36Hey, guys!
15:37Hey, guys!
15:38Starting with the crown.
15:39Yeah, we are.
15:40Working with the top down.
15:41You guys are putting it in upside down?
15:44Does that hurt?
15:45How often do you install a crown?
15:47Never.
15:48Crown is not one of those things you attempt when you're in a rush.
15:50These are vacation rental properties.
15:52Yeah.
15:53Crown is very visible.
15:54Yeah.
15:55So it's gotta be perfect.
15:57Yeah.
15:58Chris.
15:59I noticed that you put a lot of pressure on yourself.
16:01Yeah.
16:02You're sweating bullets.
16:03We're here to win, 100%.
16:04We're here to crush the competition.
16:06We're all gas, no brakes.
16:07Yeah, 100%.
16:08Chris, he's overheating.
16:10And if he doesn't slow down for a second to follow the plan, they could burn out early.
16:16Yeah, it's, like, totally off, man.
16:18I'm in trouble.
16:19I'm just having a hard time with this.
16:23There it is.
16:24I see it.
16:25Woo!
16:26We got it!
16:27There you go!
16:28Got it!
16:29Go, Jake!
16:30Go, Rashida!
16:31You're half an hour behind!
16:32Oh, my gosh!
16:33Underdogs now.
16:35Mm-hmm.
16:36But they better watch out.
16:37Come on!
16:38This is giving the other teams an advantage.
16:40Let's go, ladies!
16:41Maybe it's a reality check that it's going to take more than just enthusiasm to win this
16:46competition.
16:47It jolted us.
16:48I'm sorry.
16:49I'm, like, so embarrassed now.
16:50People are going to be like, why are you here, dumb girl?
16:51You don't belong here.
16:52It's over here.
16:53Okay.
16:54Bingo!
16:55And they got it.
16:56Keep running.
16:57You're 40 minutes behind.
16:58By the time they're back, it'll be over an hour.
17:00Maybe I shouldn't be here.
17:01Stop.
17:02You're putting undue blame on yourself is what you're doing.
17:04It feels like I let Melissa down because the items had to do with something I should have
17:09known.
17:10She didn't let me down.
17:11We're in it together.
17:12But now I feel like we have a lot to make up for and prove, honestly.
17:15We need to show everyone what we can do.
17:25We have to do a bedroom and a bathroom in one week.
17:28It just feels like there's not enough time.
17:30We have to figure it out, right?
17:32We've been figuring it out all of our lives.
17:35Neither one of us come from means, right?
17:37So we've always had to make it happen, whether it was simply how to get to school or how to
17:42find a job.
17:43Growing up, I would take what we had.
17:45My side tables were milk crates, and I would take a piece of fabric or a sheet and just drape
17:50it over it.
17:51It'd probably be like a different sheet every time, so it looks a little different.
17:54Just trying to figure it out.
17:56There we go.
17:57We are already under pressure and already behind.
18:02I'm thinking first, I'll just color-drench the room.
18:05I'm going to be tiling a bathroom.
18:07What Shannon does is something that I can't speak for every woman, but most of us just
18:12don't know how to do.
18:13I'm a female in a male-dominated world, and I'm having to always prove myself.
18:17And I'm fighting for a seat at that table.
18:31Almost.
18:32Using organic colors like greens and browns, bringing it outside in is a bit of a risk.
18:40I could easily paint everything like a bold color and make it be like a punchy, challenge-winning
18:45moment every single turn, but that's not my vibe.
18:48Holly and Graham, they've had a head start.
18:50They did.
18:51Hello there.
18:52Oh, hey guys.
18:53How does it feel to be a champion?
18:55Oh, it feels incredible.
18:57Brian and I both have daughters.
18:58How long ago did you start working together?
19:00I would say six years ago.
19:02But I've always been on job sites with him, like, throughout my whole life.
19:05I think it's amazing, and you've got the communication, you've got the history together.
19:08And we're committed to each other, 100%.
19:10I'm unbelievably proud.
19:12Unbelievably proud.
19:13I'm going to start crying now.
19:14We've got high expectations, so I'm hoping you're going to show us something that we've never
19:18seen before.
19:19Absolutely.
19:20That's exactly what we're going to do.
19:23I was a little bit worried, but it looks really good.
19:26The bathroom wallpaper, it's created from painting that I made.
19:29Melissa is a true artist.
19:31She has such a wonderful eye for bringing in that art element, that feel.
19:35All right, drop your side.
19:36For me, I spent 20 years behind the desk of corporate America and just dove back into being
19:41the creative I was as a younger person just a few years ago.
19:45My design work is more than just a job.
19:48It is a dream that I never, ever even dared to dream come true.
19:54No pressure.
19:55I can't buy any more of this.
20:01It's a little bit of a complicated pattern, but I think it's going to look cool.
20:04Cranking up the insanity again.
20:05Cranking up the insanity.
20:06It's a doorbell.
20:07Was that the door?
20:08I think it was.
20:09We got to go.
20:10No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
20:11Oh, no.
20:12Oh, no.
20:13Oh, no.
20:14Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
20:15We already have enough to do.
20:16We still have so much to do.
20:17I really just hope the judges see how ambitious we were with trying to tackle this.
20:22Sometimes pressure creates diamonds.
20:23What did you do?
20:24Put a hole there.
20:25This has to be swiped off.
20:26But we have no time at all.
20:28I don't know how to fix it.
20:33That's a good job.
20:34It's a good job.
20:35It's a good job.
20:40I'm not a good job.
20:42I'm not a good job.
20:43I'm not a good job.
20:44I'm a good job.
20:45I'm a good job.
20:46I'm a good job.
20:47was that the door I think it was we gotta go no no no no no no no oh no another tool box shake
20:55it's too soon okay it's a note from Scott and Brian we have big dreams for your first bonus
21:02build the bonus build is a little bit unnerving I've got to be honest for the bonus build this
21:07week you'll be building a headboard your headboard must have at least two functions
21:13oh no no no no we already have enough to do they've got their bonus build assignments whoever's
21:20gonna win has to incorporate a multifunctional headboard that really works yeah we want to see
21:25something impressive that has a purpose we have to think of two functions on this headboard it's
21:30gonna be challenging to say the least we still have so much to do I'm worried about the timing
21:33because I don't know what she's going to come up with so instead of just a traditional headboard
21:37we take up the whole wall okay the wood panels we're gonna cut them in such a way that we can
21:42create a little bit of an unexpected pattern from them and then add some lighting or charging
21:47function that's ambitious I'm wondering how Shannon and Melissa are feeling after coming
21:51last place in the wrench fancy seeing you here you started from behind it's hit to your ego it's
21:59it's your psyche but that didn't define how we're gonna do for it this competition these are our plans
22:04for the bonus build your headboard is gonna be the entire back wall yes we have to redeem ourselves
22:09yeah why is redemption so important to you we come in as a girl team we have to prove to the world that
22:15you can do anything no matter who you are female builder DIY or we got to come out swinging Melissa
22:20and Shannon are putting an extra layer of pressure on themselves yeah sometimes pressure creates diamonds
22:25since we have the four post bed we could just add a nice upholstered headboard I love fabric I was gonna
22:30put this in another room okay I'm not gonna be simple no I'm not expecting it to be simple
22:35for the headboard saluted panels I think that's gonna be so luxurious include a nightstand in it
22:43hello hello hey how's it going we're working through it how important is it for you to be here and be
22:51doing what you're doing our children are watching yeah and we're setting an example for them of what it
22:56looks like to even if you lose to come back and work really hard to get that win and to not give
23:01up I love that they've got the right attitude they've got the right optimism and they're aiming high any
23:06disagreements yet oh my motto is she picks it I stick it they have their relationship pretty well
23:14staked out yeah she tells me what to do when I do it you and Sarah figured this out too I think
23:19that is the safest route forward for Jake and I this headboard is a lot there's so many pieces you
23:28have to be on point with your measurements I just go on top there's some gaps right the pieces may not
23:34be as flush or as square as I would like I really just hope the judges see how ambitious we were we're
23:39trying to tackle this we have to design and build a headboard take up this entire wall maybe if we did
23:47it plywood but we stain it so then you can kind of see the grain of the plywood through it I'm looking
23:52through all the maple plywood for the right four pieces to build this headboard one down Holly what
23:58are you doing I'm not saying anything you started your bonus build yet we're almost done I don't believe
24:05you we have to catch up all right your first look we've got a headboard so we've settled on the wood
24:10the four pieces that we found they have this beautiful sort of movement through them they all
24:14match and there are no more forty one and five eights oh no I had just lost us this challenge
24:27yeah I clipped it what did you do I put a hole there I pencil marked the wrong
24:34location of the light switch on our last piece of wood the headboard is unrepairable I need a second
24:43all right there we go that's so pretty it's beautiful okay so we want to go vertical and
25:01we want to go the headboard we have panels that aesthetically looks amazing our design is wall-to-wall
25:11Florida ceiling it looks terrible on this material is meant to be put in either vertically or horizontally
25:21that's it these are not intended to alternate apparently I don't know how to fix it this has
25:27to be swiped off all these panel edges but we have no time at all are we just gonna have to put these
25:33vertical I have found myself having to backpedal on the design I want because another way might be
25:38easier like we have to use this product the way it's intended all of them this way see what that
25:44looks like I guess so I would never choose it in a million lifetimes it'll just look like I have no
25:49creativity should we even be trying to do this we don't have any time to be creative this sucks
26:05I don't know if we have enough time to do everything only thing that we can do is keep working
26:09the headboard there is a piece of plywood that has one strip two feet wide this is the pattern that
26:18matches the grains on the headboard it's a miracle we can use that to finish off that other piece if
26:24we just cut them all right down the center I'm not going to get the headboard that I had intended it's
26:29not going to be these four big beautiful pieces but I think it'll still give us the effect that we're
26:33looking for we have to get this done tonight this has to be the fastest dang job of our lives it's
26:40like the relay race all over again okay hang on we're looking at different options on the floor
26:46I hate this all one way then we're not doing it I'll turn let's go with alternating orientation
26:52pattern we have to customize every single panel okay let's cut we got 750 to go
27:03one second I don't have the bottom here Center with the bed there's literally only a few hours
27:12left in this challenge I just wish we were further ahead this is critical this last stage they're
27:17looking for attention to detail we have to get this done I have no idea how we're gonna actually get
27:31this done time is flying no no just to the right to the right to the right I have butterflies my
27:55stomach I know that Cammie's design is the best one I'm nervous I did my best it's really nerve-racking
28:03I feel proud of you you're my little girl and you designed a beautiful space proud of you too
28:07nervous but excited there's probably blood sweat and tears on the floor they're definitely for sure
28:14all right congratulations teams on finishing your first challenge to help Scott and I evaluate your
28:24completed spaces this week we have two phenomenal judges they've been involved in high-profile design
28:30and build projects you've seen them featured on renovation and design shows before and they
28:36have impeccable tastes Sarah Baumler and Sabrina McGilvery the first challenge was a big one it's the
28:50primary bedroom and the primary bathroom with a bonus build challenge of doing a custom headboard that
28:56had a couple different functions what will you be looking for in those spaces that wow factor and
29:01functionality I want to see your creativity what have you done that sets you apart from the other
29:06team standing beside you and they know a great thing when they see it yes right Brian they sure do
29:12as usual we will be looking at the creativity of your design the functionality of your space and the
29:19quality of your work so the four of us are going to go have a walk through all of your spaces and
29:23we'll be back with a winning team we'll be back guys Rashida and Jake from Philly okay and they're
29:32going for opulent Oasis whoa cozy already the goal for them is to feel really high-end I love the fireplace
29:41any season you come here you can appreciate right it's warm the headboard is a design feature a lighting
29:47feature storage good idea yes and charging stations it's charging maybe you should sit on it I do love
29:59the headboard love the design yeah but I mean I do see carpentry notice a few small details yeah and if
30:07that's a feature that you're gonna look at make sure your carpentry is spot-on great idea but the
30:13execution is not complete it's different it's unique I think bathrooms have fun having the double
30:28vanity is the rent is a win there's some storage especially with husband and wife who's got more
30:34product and I knew it I really like the dark tile I think the quality work in there is great I like
30:48the brass to me that's opulent Rashida and Jake went all-in and spent $21,000 on this challenge more
30:56than any other team opulence can be costly so they'll have to be careful moving forward
31:01Melissa and Shannon okay
31:07Melissa and Shannon global getaway okay I was not expecting this moody
31:28they want to have sort of this universal global feel to the space almost like an international
31:41appeal I would call it my first thought is it feels open and airy even though it's a dark color which is
31:47sometimes hard to achieve I think that's the headboard headboard that is wildly ambitious I
31:53think it's beautifully done those panels are not meant to be turned on 90 degrees and fit together
31:59I think the math was done extremely well the symmetry is perfect in terms of multi-functionality
32:05they have their nightstands incorporated in oh did you see another light a night light just came on
32:11we got motion lights oh it does feel a little empty on either side of the bed I think they missed the
32:18mark with those side tables they're very small I love that the lights have been put on a switch but
32:23it's too far away from the bed so they've obviously put time and probably a lot of their budget in the
32:29headboard could they have done a little bit more I think a hundred percent here we go oh oh whoa
32:35completely different oh my goodness I love it wow I do like the colors the quality of work looks
32:47really good in here it's a departure from the bedroom actually but I love it it actually surprised me which
32:53is nice Melissa and Shannon spent thirteen thousand six hundred dollars on this space which is a good start
33:00without going overboard but is it enough to beat the competition this would be Camille and Chris yeah
33:10and this is the riverbank retreat let's go we're on the riverbank it's fresh it's light it's airy Camille
33:18and Chris they're going for an English country vibe cottage chic it's cozy and cozy warm but I think
33:26this entire wall falls flat a little because it's just pieces of furniture oh oh so I get it at a
33:32vacation property I will give them credit it's nice to have a TV and you get a little pizzazz with the
33:38wallpaper on the inside yeah what do we think of the headboard the headboard's a miss for me and it's
33:42the light placement the electrical placement and just the finished detail on it yeah the light fixture
33:48too close to your head yeah when you're sitting there I mean you could put it up here well hello there
33:53hey welcome to the show and then the plug is even a little too close I don't think that that would
33:57pass an electrical inspection no crown molding was an ambitious strategy for these two because you told
34:04him it was upside down I think he flipped it though he did flip it whoa I like it it feels fresh I like
34:13the color very nice I love the detail of the blue tile and then they kind of carried it around what I
34:19appreciate here is the little details the natural over tan the small scones it's a very whimsical
34:24bathroom quality work looks great I'm happy Camille and Chris kept their spending in check using just
34:30under twelve thousand dollars for this challenge they're in a solid position budget-wise for the
34:35rest of the property this is Holly and Graham they're a father-daughter duo and this is the heritage
34:42homestead okay wow they want to have sort of this earthy feel and a bit of an organic vibe it's a nice
34:51feel it's very comfy I mean let's start with the headboard first good one side veneer yeah detail
34:59wise quality work is great there's wall sconces properly placed yes there's the actual switches for
35:04them properly placed that is a home run when it comes to the bonus build I like the lighter colors along
35:11with the compatible earthy tones all I see is the view don't you feel like the view like it's kind
35:17of coming in the outside coming in I think that's what they were trying to do but there's a little
35:23bit of an emptiness to this side it's a little safe I think yes whoa this bathroom feels casual I can see
35:32they went for the earthy tone I like the shiplap though it adds some good texture in here like the open
35:37shelving with that live edge feel to it too and just a beautiful tile that to me fits with the theme
35:43of the room but I'm not having like a huge impact from this bathroom I was hoping for a little more
35:48energy yeah Holly and Graham spent only ten thousand dollars the lowest of any team they've got about a
35:54hundred and forty thousand dollars left for their vacation home there can only be one team that wins
35:58this challenge there's gonna be a tough one yes yeah a lot of positive things but some challenges
36:04as well so we need to pick a winner we ready to make a decision I'm ready I think so you should
36:10all be incredibly proud of the work you've done but there can only be one team that wins this challenge
36:15challenge and the winner of renovation resorts primary bedroom and bathroom challenge is
36:30after seven days of grinding in the wilderness with nothing but their skills tools vision and each
36:36other our designer builder teams have revealed four extremely different primary bedrooms and baths to the
36:42judges but only one team will walk away from the fire pit with a critical win in the first renovation
36:48resort showdown challenge okay this was very difficult you set the bar very high so kudos to
36:57everybody here let's start with Cam and Chris when I walked into the bedroom it felt very warm and
37:04inviting the cabinet there was wallpaper inside classic but edgy and new at the same time I absolutely
37:12appreciated the crown molding that was an ambitious challenge really didn't want to do it but Cammy
37:17wouldn't take no for an answer Cammy you were pushing them and I appreciate that you guys did a
37:22pretty darn good job your quality work in the bathroom was spot-on perfect impeccable nice the detail
37:30with the blue the vanity it was light fresh the biggest challenge for me yeah headboard didn't
37:36hit the light fixtures so over the pillow and the receptacles right by your ears okay yeah thank you
37:42under Rashida and Jake opulence that definitely is what you feel when you walk into that bedroom your
37:50room from a seasonal perspective you had a fireplace it did feel like a warm cozy cocoon the headboard
37:56wasn't at the caliber that I expected the quality work I know this is not what you're able to deliver
38:01I think you guys shot really high it was a pretty aggressive design plan yeah definitely not a headboard
38:07expert the bathroom was spectacular you talk opulence walk in there I feel like I can't afford to stay
38:14here absolutely beautiful bathroom love the wallpaper the double vanity love it you completed
38:20more work in this challenge than anyone else and that is what is needed when it comes down to these
38:24competitions Melissa and Shannon you started behind the path because of the reno relay I was skeptical
38:31whether you would be able to execute on such an ambitious plan when we all walked in the room
38:36we all smiled immediately and felt the energy of your work the acoustic panels those are not easy to
38:45work with each one of them modified for sure it looked professionally done but then you need eight foot
38:53arms to turn the light off yeah you do and where is some additional built-ins where's extra storage
38:58you need to use every single ounce of the spaces the bathroom was actually my favorite part of the
39:05room it's my art on wallpaper the little girl in me is very happy I walked in there and I was like yeah
39:14everything just fit thank you so much all right Holly and Graham I felt very zen like a retreat it was very
39:22calming spa like the outside was coming in there's a lot of focus on that headboard um bloody headboard
39:29did you struggle with that headboard it started out as four panels and then there was an issue so now
39:35there's eight considering all four of us didn't notice that that wasn't your original plan well done but
39:41at the same time it also felt a little bit empty I can feel like you played it safe in the bathroom it
39:47felt very monochromatic I thought maybe that was an opportunity to show us a couple new tricks sure but
39:53again the work the attention to detail in the bathroom was beautiful and it was really really
39:57well done this has been a tough decision you should all be incredibly proud of the work you've done but
40:04there can only be one team that wins this challenge and the winner of renovation resorts primary bedroom and
40:11bathroom challenge is we had hurdles to overcome to to win to end on that high note I'm
40:41honored to just be alongside these people and I'm so proud of you we like got through this yeah we
40:46believed in each dicey man losing the relay challenge set a fire inside you oh yeah winning
40:57right now is giving us a little bit of our confidence back this is just week one yeah there
41:03are seven more challenges to complete and there's a hundred thousand dollars on the lottery
41:08so get some rest you're gonna need it
41:12we're seven this season on renovation resort showdown let's go
41:19everything we thought we were doing is about to change sounds more complicated the way you want to do it
41:25things are about to get even more intense oh that is crazy I love that it looks amazing
41:34Graham knows how to pack a wheelbarrow what the heck what was that I'm done with you I got it babe
41:41I know what you mean do you know what I mean yes I just feel like I've let you down I don't want
41:45people to judge me again keep it together I really just hope the judges see how ambitious we were
41:51from digging it oh that's pretty good the team taking home the $100,000 prize is
