Transcript
00:00Hey. Hey.
00:12Married, you're a married guy, yeah?
00:16All of this is going to the police, OK?
00:24I can't hand myself in.
00:26OK.
00:27That does sound really bad.
00:30Hi, are you OK?
00:35Yeah, ma'am.
00:36Yeah, that's fine.
00:37I just want to check you're all right.
00:38The officer is going to come down and speak to your right.
00:40Do you have my two turned up?
00:42I don't know.
00:44Bear with me.
00:47Hello?
00:48Hi, you all right?
00:49Hi.
00:50Will you just call that guy?
00:51Yeah, the whole...
00:52I don't know what you've got.
00:53Lava, you've just briefly taken care of.
00:55Yeah.
00:56I don't know what.
00:57I don't know what it is.
00:58He believes he's meeting a 12-year-old girl for sex.
01:00OK.
01:01OK.
01:02Stay where you are.
01:03Any sudden moves?
01:04Yeah.
01:05Attempted murder.
01:06Attempted murder.
01:07Once a suspect is in custody, the police have just 24 hours to find out what really happened.
01:26The time is really ticking.
01:27Who's innocent?
01:28Who is guilty?
01:29We're good to go.
01:30This is your opportunity to talk to me.
01:31There's two sides to every single story.
01:33There's two sides to every single story.
01:40Any second?
01:41Steve.
01:42Steve.
01:55Steve.
01:57Steve.
02:08A man has handed himself into the police after a confrontation with a couple in Luton Town Centre.
02:32Detective Constable Joe Barkad from Luton CID is given the case.
02:38We don't wait a year because you've come to hand stuff in, so we are going to arrest you and take the room into custody.
02:49When someone hands himself in, you start working on a little bit of a back foot, your clock has already started ticking.
02:56And just because somebody hands himself in doesn't necessarily mean they're guilty.
03:01You still need to have all the evidence there to prove whether they're guilty or not.
03:05Erm, what time is a gentleman arrested, please?
03:12Yeah.
03:14So the circumstances are...
03:16DP has handed himself in after having admitted to...
03:24...having conversations with a girl who believed to be 12.
03:28Yeah.
03:32For the offence of grooming?
03:33Yeah.
03:37Okay, sir.
03:39Do you want a solicitor?
03:40Yeah.
03:46How is it you feel now?
03:47Down a bit.
03:52Down.
03:57If you can just sign on that pad there, just for the answers that you've given us.
04:00Okay, then.
04:01If you can take the gentleman down to M1, please.
04:06Down to M1, please.
04:21Because the police haven't made the arrest themselves,
04:24they need to quickly understand the events that drove the suspect
04:27to hand himself in.
04:36We're in interview room number 7 at Luton Police Station.
04:42I am interviewing police, state your full name and day of prayer.
04:44Lee Keith James Hardy, the 8th, 1973.
04:49OK, first of all, Lee, I need to remind you of the caution,
04:52and that is that you do not have to say anything,
04:54but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned
04:56something which you later rely on in court.
04:59OK, Lee.
05:01You've been arrested on suspicion of the offence of grooming.
05:04Tell me what happened.
05:06I was talking to a young girl on Facebook with us talking,
05:13and then she said, you want to meet up at 6th, and I said yes.
05:18Then what happened?
05:20I was sitting outside, and these two people came up to me
05:23and started to harass me, saying,
05:29you're going to have sex with a 12-year-old.
05:31And I said I'm going to hand myself in.
05:32So I started to walk, and both of them followed me
05:33and started to harassing me down the street,
05:37calling me a paedophile, and everybody was staring and looking at me.
05:41And the lady had the phone, and it was recording it all.
05:48You was going to meet a 12-year-old girl and have sex with her.
05:52You was going to meet a 12-year-old girl and have sex with her.
05:54No, you wasn't mucking about.
05:56You can't tell me.
05:57You wasn't mucking about at all.
05:58And you're married.
05:59You're a married guy, yeah?
06:00All of this is going to the police, OK?
06:04How old is Sophie?
06:07She says she's 12.
06:09And how old are you?
06:1141.
06:1241.
06:13Why did you arrange to meet up with her?
06:17Just to talk.
06:19That was all.
06:21It's not my wife, it's work though, about all this.
06:25No, you keep it simple.
06:26Right, how many times have you done this?
06:28Lee, on your computer, are we going to find any other conversations
06:31with any other underage females under your Facebook account?
06:35Are we going to find anything else of this sort of nature that...
06:38No.
06:39So this is a joke.
06:41It's a joke.
06:42It's a joke.
06:43It's a joke.
06:44It's a joke.
06:45It's a joke.
06:46It's a joke.
06:47It's a joke.
06:48It's a joke.
06:49It's a joke.
06:50So this is the only one?
06:52Yes.
06:53OK.
06:54OK, well, I'm going to suspend the interview then.
07:20With Lee Hardy in custody, detectives need to take statements from the couple who've
07:26accused him of attempting to meet a child for sex.
07:30Hello, hey.
07:31Hi, everyone.
07:32Hi, everyone.
07:33Yeah, man.
07:34Is there actually a bit?
07:35Yeah, no problem.
07:36Actually, no problem.
07:37This statement relates to meeting a male I know as Lee Hardy, aged in his late 30s, outside
07:41Farm Foods in Luton Town Centre.
07:43I'm sure I've got it here.
07:45And if I go to here, it starts off all innocent to start with.
07:57This is all going to be sent to you anyway.
07:59It'll be screenshotted and sent to you via email, the whole lot.
08:03The whole conversation when I met him was recorded anyway, you'll have that as well.
08:15What do you mean you didn't know?
08:16You knew it was me.
08:17Sophie?
08:18Oh, it was you?
08:19Yeah.
08:20Is Kate your wife, girlfriend?
08:23Girlfriend.
08:24Girlfriend.
08:25Yeah.
08:26We had a profile on Facebook of a young girl.
08:32Ah.
08:33So, this particular Facebook account, what was it called?
08:39Her name's Sophie.
08:42You can't deny it because she was talking.
08:45No, you wasn't mucking about.
08:46You can't deny it because she was talking to me.
08:48You wasn't mucking about at all.
08:49I did.
08:50You did because she was talking to me.
08:51It was me you was talking to.
08:52She was talking to us.
08:53Have you got Wi-Fi here by any chance?
08:58Do you want to fake your password just because I need to send the evidence to my colleagues
09:02so they can interview them when we're doing this?
09:04Yeah.
09:05I am from Betheshire Police.
09:20I've got a warrant to search this property because we've got to leave in custody.
09:24My husband?
09:25Yeah.
09:26Okay.
09:27Are you aware that Lee's down the police station?
09:31He's phoned me to tell me but I don't know what it's about.
09:34Okay.
09:35Well, unfortunately, because he's an adult, I'm not allowed to tell you what it's about.
09:38Okay.
09:39Officers search the suspect's house for any evidence of sexual relationships with teenage girls.
09:48It's always hard to search in a house with people present, especially when you're in a position where you can't tell them why you're there searching the house.
10:00Ultimately, the offence he'd been arrested for would result in the fact that he was, one, going to be cheating on her, and two, not only was he going to be cheating on her, he was going to be doing it with a child.
10:11So, it makes it quite awkward with things that we're trying to look for.
10:18Does Lee have any computers or electronic devices or anything like that?
10:23That might help us out a little bit to start with.
10:25The only thing we've got is the laptop and that's literally, I use it personally.
10:31Yeah.
10:32That's the only thing.
10:33Does Lee have access to that?
10:34He does.
10:35Okay.
10:36Well, unfortunately, I will be taking that with me.
10:38We take his electronic devices so that we can look at what evidence might be on his side of things, because there may well be other victims that we need to be looking into.
10:57Tonight, it was very uncomfortable.
10:59No, I can completely understand. I wouldn't want people coming through and going through my personal stuff.
11:03It's not that. It's private stuff as well.
11:05Yeah.
11:06No.
11:07I don't even get embarrassed.
11:08I'm embarrassed.
11:11However, unfortunately, it's the nature of the job.
11:14Yeah.
11:16Thank you very much for your help, Tommy.
11:17Thank you, Tommy.
11:22DC Barcat is now armed with the full details of Hardy's online conversation.
11:27But before she can question him about it, she must disclose the evidence to his solicitor, who gives him legal advice.
11:37You've got two decisions to make. If you're guilty, you're going to make admissions and you can talk about it. Try and explain to the officer, I've got a problem. I do need help.
11:46Are you ready?
11:47Yeah, okay, yeah.
11:48Yeah, I'm ready.
11:49You get other people and they just totally deny it. It's their choice. Only they know if they've done something wrong.
11:59Shall we go through some of these conversations?
12:06At 11.34, you said what you're up to and you look sexy in your pics.
12:13I say it to everybody.
12:15Is it an appropriate thing to say to a 12-year-old?
12:18Yes, it is. No, I mean, no, it's not. Sorry, it's not appropriate to say things like that.
12:24And why did you say it? Did you think she was sexy?
12:30I find everybody sexy.
12:33So what would you say the definition of sexy is then?
12:36Pretty.
12:37Why didn't you just use the word pretty instead of sexy?
12:39I can't spell it.
12:44I have trouble reading and writing.
12:46Okay, so at 13.20, you ask Sophie, what size are your tits?
12:53I ask everybody that.
12:55I sure wouldn't appreciate anyone asking me that.
12:57Especially somebody that I've only been speaking to for a day.
13:01I don't know.
13:08Okay, so at 14.24 hours, you ask, have you done anything with a boy?
13:13Why do you want to know that from her?
13:16I don't know that.
13:17That's the problem I need help with myself.
13:25Can you explain what you mean by that?
13:26In the past year, um, I've started to like young girls in the past year.
13:38And I don't know why.
13:42So how does it make you feel then when you're chatting to these 12-year-olds?
13:45Being honest, sick.
13:50I feel sick deep down.
13:52So why do you not clear your friends list of anyone that's under the age of 12,
13:57log out of Facebook, delete your account, stop having any contact with 12-year-old girls?
14:02If you know that, that is not right.
14:04I'm not saying nothing else.
14:06Okay, neat.
14:07Because you've upset me now.
14:13Do you want to have a chat?
14:15Yeah.
14:17I just need time to calm down.
14:18Okay.
14:19Well, I'm going to suspend the interview then at 0050 hours for you to gain further legal advice.
14:28I don't think he likes me.
14:41Is he not?
14:42No.
14:43I don't possibly...
14:45Well, he did say he asked all girls what bra size they were,
14:50and I nearly said to him, well, you haven't asked me.
14:53He's very well.
14:54We did just half wonder if he was going to go a bit crazy.
15:16You're going to be arrested and charged, do you understand that?
15:18We do this for a living, okay?
15:20You're just going to meet a 12-year-old for sex.
15:25I've got a couple of posts up of the events tonight.
15:29Why would you come and do that to a 12-year-old?
15:32Our team's called FEAR.
15:34I mean, my name is Chris FEAR.
15:37Chris stands for Children Have Rights in Society.
15:40FEAR, we're coming for you.
15:42The first confrontation, we actually drove all the way to Coventry.
15:46The guy believed he was meeting an 11-year-old girl
15:50and a 13-year-old girl for sex in the park.
15:53He just admitted it.
15:55On camera.
15:57Going to meet fucking 11-year-old girls, man.
16:00He admitted it straight away,
16:03and he was charged on two accounts of grooming
16:06and meeting underage girls for sex.
16:08Tell them what you are.
16:10Tell them what you are.
16:12I don't go out there to cause them harm.
16:16I'm not meeting them to beat them up or have them beat up.
16:20I simply want them locked up.
16:21But if they decide they want to have a go at me or a pop at me,
16:24then they're going to regret that.
16:27At first, it was really hard not to act young or naive,
16:32but to have the thing said back to me knowing that they thought I was 12
16:37was actually really disturbing.
16:40You know, some nights you couldn't even sleep.
16:41Grooming an underage child online can carry a sentence up to 15 years.
16:48And I think there's plenty of evidence for him to be charged.
16:54He'll be sweating.
16:56This guy's a...
16:58He's a paedophile.
16:59Do you mind getting that phone out of my face, please?
17:03No, I don't.
17:05You're the one in the wrong way, not us.
17:08He's had a thousand views so far.
17:15Although Lee Hardy has admitted to finding children sexually attractive,
17:20the police still have further questions for him.
17:23To build the strongest case possible,
17:26the detectives need to prove that Hardy intended to physically have sex
17:30with the 12-year-old he was going to meet.
17:33You're doing OK.
17:35You're doing OK.
17:37Don't lose your rag, yeah?
17:39Keep it simple.
17:41Keep it simple, yeah?
17:49PHONE RINGS
17:52Continuing on from the same conversation,
17:57you say, I've got a dirty mind.
18:00Sophie says, like what?
18:02What did you mean by that?
18:08I think everybody's got a dirty mind.
18:11With 12-year-olds?
18:14And you said, I'm trying to be good with you.
18:17Why would you be trying to be good with her?
18:23Try and get out of it, that's the problem.
18:25Out of being dirty to people, trying to stay clean.
18:29So at 13.35 on the 28th of July 2015, she says,
18:34so what, you want to do girlfriend and boyfriend stuff?
18:37You say kiss, kiss, hold hands, cuddle.
18:40What, at least, you sometimes get angry, don't you?
18:44Do you just want to take a moment, yeah?
18:46Sometimes you get anxious and a bit angry.
18:48Yeah.
18:49Are you OK? Do you want to continue?
18:50No. I'm not OK.
18:51OK.
18:57Is there anything further that you want to say?
18:58There's nothing else to say.
19:00OK.
19:02I'm just getting angry because she's just repeating the question over and over.
19:05One of them.
19:07OK.
19:08Well, it's a matter for you if you want to stop the interview,
19:09if you've got nothing else to say.
19:11No, I've got nothing else to say.
19:12OK.
19:15There's not a lot more to ask questions about at the minute,
19:17and then we can stop the interview.
19:19Sure.
19:20All right?
19:22So, Sophie says, so what you want to do, girlfriend, boyfriend stuff.
19:25She questions sex.
19:27You said, cool, do you want to have sex?
19:30What did you mean by that?
19:31No comment.
19:33Did you want to have sex with her?
19:36No comment.
19:37And you wrote, you know it's going to hurt you.
19:42What did you mean by that?
19:44No comment.
19:46You said, you've got any baby oil, too.
19:49Why do you want baby oil?
19:52I don't know.
19:53And she's asked you what you do with it.
19:55And you've replied, I rub it on your fanny.
19:58Three kisses.
20:03No comment.
20:05She said, then when I have it all over me, what do you do?
20:08Do you remember what your response was?
20:10I'm showing it 13, 10 hours today.
20:12Get on top of you.
20:20Free kisses.
20:26No comment.
20:28And she said, what, sex in?
20:30And you've said, yes.
20:32Doesn't mean I was going to go through with it.
20:37Problem is, Lee, I failed to believe you.
20:40I think you're lying to me.
20:42I think you had every intention of kissing her, touching her inappropriately, having sex with her.
20:48I don't believe what you're telling me.
20:51It's only her opinion.
20:53You've said what you've said.
20:54You've said that you've got a problem, you need help, there's something wrong with you.
20:57You've handed yourself into the police station, you know you've got issues.
21:01Why do you keep on going on about it?
21:04I'm tired to ask as many questions as I like you as well.
21:06If you keep asking the same questions.
21:08And that's your opinion.
21:09I don't believe I do ask the same questions.
21:10Well, it's not about opinions, is it?
21:11It's not about opinions.
21:12No, and I can ask whatever questions I feel that are appropriate in this interview, and I will continue to ask whatever questions I need to.
21:16But we don't want to know what your opinion is.
21:17We're not interested in your opinion.
21:18It's about evidence.
21:19And the evidence...
21:20He said what he said.
21:21He said what he said.
21:22He said what he said, yeah.
21:24OK, so anything else you want to say, Lee?
21:28People that put the evidence in, they recalled me while I was in town, is there any plans to stop them that go viral?
21:36We certainly will, obviously, try to stop that, all right?
21:41Then I'm going to conclude the interview at 01.38 hours.
21:49Because of not any for some reason, never to go viral underneath.
21:58Baby oil and condoms because she don't want to get her pregnant, so what's that in a pregnant?
22:19She told her to be pregnant.
22:28I know the police don't like us doing it, but I think it's only fair that the public know who's in their town.
22:40Is this someone? Yeah. Yeah, he says he's going to kill himself.
22:43Oh, is he? Yeah. Because of what he's looking to get in charge.
22:47Do you want to crank her up, then? Crank him up, mate.
22:51Where does Cranky go? Can't go out.
22:55Martin, come and everyone watch for this.
23:00If you leave a chance, I don't have to meet with me and Marty, please just meet with a 12-year-old girl for sex.
23:05Yeah, that's the guy I saw in custody.
23:09I understand why they're doing it, but, you know, sitting in a place that we set, there are issues.
23:18If people have seen it, you don't get the right to a fair trial. Yeah.
23:23Which would mean that they'd walk.
23:25Self-confessed paedophile Lee Hardy has been kept on suicide watch overnight.
23:39M1, leaning up against the wall.
23:42Mate, your boy's gone down, so go and have a check on him now.
23:45He's gone down there.
23:48Can you put that in my property, please? Oh, dear.
23:50Can you tell Andy I want to help myself?
23:52Lovely.
23:53But to hand over your wedding ring, that's quite a...
23:56Yeah, but he knew it was going to happen.
23:57Oh.
23:58Yeah.
23:59Lee.
24:00Lee.
24:01It's Andy.
24:02Put your bum down, Guy.
24:03Come on.
24:04Can you tell Andy I want to help myself?
24:06Lovely.
24:07But to hand over your wedding ring, that's quite...
24:09Yeah, but you knew it was going to happen.
24:10Oh, yeah.
24:13Lee? Lee? It's Andy.
24:17Put your bum down, Geese. Come on.
24:23You know where I'd sit in all this, don't you?
24:25All right? Yeah?
24:28I don't envy where you are at the moment.
24:30I really don't understand and I can't comprehend, all right?
24:34But I do need to look after you, all right?
24:36What I can't have is you trying to hurt yourself
24:39while you're here punching the walls and things, all right?
24:41The problem is that's what I need to do while you're out.
24:44Or punching the wall.
24:46What I don't want to do, because my other options are,
24:48is then I have to then start using restraining things
24:51to stop you from hurting yourself.
24:53So if you can control that anger for me,
24:55then I'll come and sit with you and talk to you when I can.
25:00He's just a nice guy, you know?
25:03It's actually the first bloke of ours I had.
25:09It hasn't run away and just left me to deal with everything.
25:12He's never harmed me in any way like other people used to do.
25:18Chill for me?
25:21No chill for me?
25:22No chill for me.
25:24He's been responsible.
25:26He hasn't, as I say, beat the crap out of me.
25:31Just been there literally for me.
25:36You know, your wife's on the phone. Do you want to speak to her?
25:42Yes.
25:43You sure?
25:44It gives you a stretch of your legs, mate, doesn't it?
25:46What I do, mate, if you stand there, I'll get it put on the phone just there for you.
25:49Hello?
25:50Are you alright?
25:51Hello, buddy.
25:52Oh, you can bring me some clean clothes down if you want, the custody office said, Andy.
26:05Have you used to be able to see me?
26:09No.
26:10No.
26:11No visitors allowed?
26:12No visitors allowed.
26:13Oh, no, never mind.
26:15Sometimes we'd worse, you know that.
26:18Right, I'm gonna let you go.
26:21I love you too.
26:23Right, I'll see you later.
26:25Bye.
26:34Have we got the video of the meat?
26:35Yeah, do you want to watch it?
26:37Press play.
26:39The paedophile hunters are refusing to take their video offline until Lee Hardy is charged.
26:48But their tactics could undermine the whole case.
26:53The concern is that if you've entrapped somebody into having these sexual conversations
27:00and through meeting them, they've not fully committed the offence on their own,
27:06so that's where the issues then come.
27:13Probably had made up.
27:14Did the profile have a picture?
27:15Yeah.
27:16Google images.
27:18They're out for doing that.
27:19They ain't gonna stop.
27:21The way we should pitch it is along the lines of, look, we can't stop you doing what you're
27:27doing.
27:28However, you need to be aware that you're probably gonna defeat what you're trying to achieve
27:32by virtue of the fact that, okay, they may face a public humiliation, but they're unlikely
27:37to face justice because you're breaching a number of rules that we have to abide by to get it in at four.
27:43We're on a no-winner, are we, Si?
27:46Because if we say to them, look, you've got to stop because, yeah, we're getting charges but then we're losing cases and they carry on, the general public will rip us apart because it looks like we don't care about it when we genuinely do.
27:56The concern is that CPS don't charge and that then we're left in a position with what do we do with Lee because if we haven't got a charging decision then we can't keep him in custody and we'd need to release him, which then means he has the opportunity to go back and continue arranging to meet young girls.
28:17Hiya.
28:18With worries growing about the paedophile hunter's methods, the detectives receive a new tip off from a woman who has also been posing as a child to gather evidence against Hardy.
28:32So this statement relates to a male I know as Lee Hardy, age 41 years old, that I've met via Facebook.
28:45I have a profile on Facebook under the name of Rosie Brown, who's a fake female that displays an age of 13 years old.
28:50Although the pictures used on the account are of me, the account is under the guise of a younger female and is made very clear throughout the conversation that Rosie was an underage girl.
28:58So he added you yesterday?
29:00No, he added me before that, beginning of July.
29:03How long has the conversation gone before?
29:04Not long, I'll show you.
29:06Hi, how are you? I'm OK.
29:08Tar, how are you? I'm good. How old are you?
29:1141. I'm 13, is that OK? Cool, yes, it's OK, OK.
29:15Is mine OK with you? Yeah.
29:18Oh, it makes me feel sick when I read on.
29:24It would be good to put a little bit about how you became part of this group, so it's a little bit clearer how you're linked to them.
29:31The reason why I got involved with these people when I was younger, I had it happen to me and I just felt like I couldn't talk to anyone, I couldn't close it.
29:40I was just very closed in, scared to tell my family, just had nobody.
29:45I didn't really want to tell my friends because I didn't want them to think wrongly of me and I had no one to turn to.
29:50Nowadays, I've got the support and I've got the right people around me to help me, basically, and I'm willing to help and to protect children on the streets, and that's what I do.
29:58There's a girl called Amy, who's a friend of the couple, who also has a fake profile, who started talking to him yesterday.
30:10Basically, she said, I'm 13, is that OK? And he said, yeah. So she said, do you like us? And she said, yeah, I like them because I think they're sexy and cute.
30:19So I think maybe it's going to put that to him and then go from there.
30:28Do you know where Brett Jones is? I've been looking for him myself.
30:32Detectives now need to question Hardy about the new evidence.
30:38No, we've actually figured out where Brett Jones is. I've got no idea where Brett is. No, I think he's, like, lost.
30:45But they can't do it without his solicitor present.
30:50We've officially lost Brett Jones. Oh, well, no great loss.
30:53Yeah. It wouldn't really matter, but I do quite need him for an interview.
30:58Right, I'm going to run upstairs, see Brett Jones, hold him for me.
31:05Yeah, but I let him escape for a couple of minutes just to go and get a sandwich.
31:12Oh.
31:14He says he should be six minutes. I told him he could have two.
31:17So you haven't given him anything yet, then?
31:22Hmm, at least we have got time.
31:25Half, nearly half two.
31:30No, I didn't expect it.
31:34I didn't expect it.
31:35What's the point of going no clue?
31:36He's got everything on the phone.
31:38I don't understand how it stands. It really, really, really is.
31:41Yeah.
31:42Do you know he's on cell watch now?
31:45Yeah, erm...
31:47I think it perhaps has all dawned on him.
31:49Bit of reality.
31:51Yeah.
31:52Put your shoes on for me, sir.
31:58Yeah, maybe we'll have some a tweet, mate, afterwards.
32:03Even cornflakes or cereal bar, you know.
32:05Have you not had anything, mate?
32:07No.
32:08No.
32:09I haven't eaten nothing since I've passed six yesterday.
32:12Yeah, it might be a good idea to try something.
32:15The problem is I don't feel hungry.
32:17No, but it might be worth just having something, might it?
32:20Just giving it a go.
32:22OK, first of all, I need to arrest you on suspicion or attempt grooming on a girl called Rosie Brown.
32:31OK, you do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention one question,
32:36something we should later rely on in court.
32:38Are you responsible for the offence of grooming on Rosie Brown?
32:41Yes.
32:42What happened with Rosie?
32:44Just talked.
32:45Just said hi and hi, that was it.
32:48I can't remember the name.
32:52Well, maybe I can remind you a little bit.
32:551221, she says, what do you like about girls my age?
33:01And you've written, they are cute and sexy.
33:05Is this sexy in the sexy term or sexy in the pretty term?
33:11Pretty term.
33:12OK, you use that word quite a lot.
33:14Maybe you need to learn to spell pretty instead of sexy.
33:17Did you find Rosie Brown sexually attractive?
33:22Yeah, as a friend, yeah.
33:27So you found her sexually attractive as a friend?
33:30Not sexually attractive, she was pretty as a friend.
33:33Do you have any other people on your Facebook that are 12, 13?
33:40Because yesterday when I asked you whether or not we would find
33:43any other conversations in regards to this...
33:45And I reply as I don't know and I can't remember.
33:51So I guess what I mean, I can't remember.
33:56What's your home life likely?
33:59Just your wife.
34:00Do you know you talk to these girls?
34:02No, there's nothing to do with that.
34:04Don't bring my wife into this.
34:10Is there anything else you want to say in regards to this interview, Lee?
34:14I'm not saying nothing else.
34:17I've asked you one question and I said I wouldn't ask you any more
34:19because I didn't want to upset you.
34:20No, sorry, sorry.
34:21You've upset me.
34:22OK, then, Lee, what I'm going to do is I'm going to conclude the interview at 15.09 hours.
34:29Lee Hardy's wife has arrived at the police station with a change of clothes for him.
34:41The police are still unable to reveal that he has been arrested for sex offences involving children.
34:47I'm Andy.
34:48Hi, Andy.
34:49Hello.
34:50Hello.
34:51Right.
34:52Yes, we did.
34:53We did.
34:54I'm looking after him because obviously he's in a bit of an unusual state, put it that way.
35:02He's not very happy at the moment.
35:03I'm not happy with him.
35:04I'm a bit angry.
35:05My job is to look after him.
35:06That's all I need to do is look after him.
35:07I look after him.
35:08You want his dirty clothes?
35:09Yes.
35:10Right.
35:11OK, leave that with me.
35:12I'll get the other clothes brought out to you.
35:14No worries.
35:15Since the video of Lee Hardy was posted online, the paedophile hunters have received a surge in support from the public.
35:35What's the idea of all these t-shirts?
35:36That's us, Team Fear.
35:37Does that look like it'll fit me?
35:38I don't know.
35:39What do you reckon?
35:40They've received a number of new tip-offs from people concerned about paedophiles in their community.
35:52Hello, everyone.
35:53Thanks all so much for coming.
35:55Most of you might know who me and Neil are.
35:57We're Team Fear.
35:58Chris Fear, paedophile hunters.
36:03The views are amazing at what you do.
36:05We just wish it was all over the UK.
36:07We should travel everywhere.
36:09They're everywhere.
36:10Are we going to carry on doing it?
36:11Good.
36:12Amazing, mate.
36:13Yes, it is.
36:14Amazing.
36:16The paedophile hunters are already planning their next sting.
36:24Are you ready?
36:25No.
36:26Christopher?
36:27No.
36:28Christopher?
36:29No.
36:30Christopher?
36:31No.
36:32Christopher?
36:33No.
36:34Hello, mate.
36:35You've come to me.
36:36You've come to me.
36:37Yeah.
36:3814-year-old girl.
36:39Yeah.
36:40For sex?
36:41No.
36:42You have.
36:43Never.
36:44Never.
36:45Never.
36:46Never.
36:47Go.
36:48I see the fears have caught another one.
36:50No.
36:51I see the fears have caught another night.
36:56game.
36:57No, just gallows.
36:58You're not going anywhere.
36:59Sit down there a minute.
37:00No, No.
37:01You know, you can't go anywhere, I'm afraid.
37:02You can't.
37:03You're not going anywhere.
37:04You've arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex, what does that make you?
37:14You can ring her from the police station.
37:17No, you're not.
37:19Go ahead, Elliot.
37:23Attemptive to meet girl under the age of 18, purpose of sex, and attempt essential grooming.
37:29I'm here to have sex with her, okay?
37:36I've talked to you, but let me talk to you away from him, yeah?
37:40Listen, he's got a van round the corner.
37:42Wait a minute, you call us in, yeah?
37:44Yeah.
37:45He's got a van around the corner.
37:47Do you know where it is?
37:48I've got the registration.
37:49He's got baby oil condoms.
37:51So you like the undercover things then?
37:52Yeah, that's it.
37:53Right, okay.
37:54I'm a paedabelle hunter.
37:55No, that's fine.
37:56I don't know you.
37:57Alright, I'm just trying to help.
37:58You really need to get his van.
37:59I've got his registration.
38:00Yeah, yeah, it's parked around here somewhere.
38:18Lee Hardy is waiting to hear whether he will be charged with grooming offences.
38:23He has admitted to having sexual conversations with adults posing as children.
38:29But DC Barcat is checking his computer for evidence he is a danger to real children.
38:36If he'd managed to have conversations with fake Facebook accounts, then he could also have
38:43been having conversations with real teenage girls.
38:47The search reveals that Hardy has downloaded hundreds of images and videos of child sex abuse.
39:03I think the hardest part to viewing those images is knowing that you can't do anything to help those children.
39:13You can't put them somewhere safe so that this abuse doesn't happen again because you don't know who they are.
39:18And there's very little ways of us being able to tell who they are.
39:22You don't even know what country they're in.
39:24You don't know anything about them.
39:25They're just pictures of innocent children being abused.
39:30Abused.
39:35245 to go.
39:49The paedophile hunter's latest target is now in police custody.
39:52Hello, Sarah.
39:53Are you all right?
39:54It's intrusive.
39:55They never even tell me who they were.
39:56And they were all standing around me trying to stop me from going anywhere.
39:59You're caught blah, blah, blah.
40:00It's the first time I've ever talked to someone underage.
40:17Search conducted on a Volkswagen van.
40:23Underneath the back seats we found two blankets.
40:27We found a Sainsbury's carrier bag with two boxes of condoms in.
40:37What's wrong with talking to people on the internet?
40:40People talk to everybody on the internet.
40:42It's an internet world.
40:47The video of the paedophile hunter's original target, Lee Hardy, has now been viewed by tens of thousands of people.
41:04Including his wife.
41:06I didn't know nothing about this until this came up.
41:12People were telling me, oh, there's a thing on Facebook and YouTube and everything.
41:17I'm going, oh, my God.
41:19Stupid.
41:20I don't know what was inside his head to do that.
41:23I know my friends and I've known them for quite a while.
41:27Because they've got kids and everything, it's like, I don't know what to say to them.
41:31Literally, I really don't know what to say to them.
41:33I can't say sorry because it's not my fault.
41:37I didn't know what he was like.
41:39I don't know what to say to them.
41:42Detective Barcat has run out of time to investigate Lee Hardy.
41:57She must now present her case to the Crown Prosecution Service.
42:05Hello.
42:06I was just wondering if I could get some of the charging advice for an offensive grooming, please.
42:11He's arranged to meet what he thinks is a girl.
42:14The first one is the age of 12.
42:16And those messages are sexual.
42:18And then the other one he thought was 13.
42:23The only other issue is just the clock runs out at 10 to 7.
42:30She's not as positive as what I would have hoped she would have been.
42:34She just seems overly concerned about entrapment.
42:37Isn't entrapment causing someone to do an act that they wouldn't otherwise do?
42:43Yeah.
42:45Well, it's clear the fact that he's contacted two different young girls, hasn't he?
42:48One in Coventry and this one.
42:50So, actually, I can't see where entrapment is coming because he's quite willing to do it.
42:53You're cutting it a bit fine, aren't you?
42:56That's plenty of time.
42:5725 minutes.
42:58No, it's not 25 minutes.
42:59That's 20.
43:00Yeah.
43:01Time now is 20 to 7.
43:03Okay, I get a little bit concerned now because I've only got 10 minutes.
43:04Now, you've been here nearly 24 hours.
43:05I think we've got 10 minutes and you'll be here for 24 hours in 10 minutes' time.
43:10Hello, Savzi Abbey.
43:11Hiya.
43:12Follow me, this way, sir.
43:13No, I'm not.
43:14No.
43:15There's no way to go.
43:16He's not going on.
43:17No, I'm not going to go.
43:18No.
43:19No.
43:20No.
43:21No.
43:22No.
43:23No.
43:24No.
43:25No.
43:26No.
43:27No, no.
43:28No.
43:29No.
43:30No.
43:31No.
43:32No.
43:33No.
43:34No.
43:35No.
43:36No.
43:37No.
43:39Follow me this way, sir. We'll go this way. Sort a route.
43:54Hello there, sir.
43:57Right, sir. The CPS has recommended that we charge you with an offence.
44:00OK.
44:01So this officer has something that she needs to read to you.
44:04OK.
44:05Between 23rd July 2015 and 30th July 2015,
44:10you intentionally arrayed an act which would involve the commission of an offence,
44:14namely having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old,
44:16contrary to Section 4 of the Sexual Offences Act 2013.
44:21Do you have any response to make?
44:23No, no response is not.
44:24OK. I'm going to refuse bail and I'm going to remind you at the police station.
44:28I feel that you pose a risk to children.
44:32This is a very serious offence.
44:35Secondly, whilst being here, you said that you wanted to kill yourself,
44:39so therefore I have a concern for your safety in that sense.
44:42Lastly, I would be concerned that if you were to leave the police station
44:45and people were to know what you'd been charged with,
44:47potentially you could be harmed.
44:48So it's also for your interests in that sense as well.
44:51Lee Hardy pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child after sexual grooming
45:02and possession of indecent images of children.
45:06He was sentenced to 28 months in prison
45:09and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
45:11I am pleased with the sentence because it was quite a heavy sentence
45:18given by the judge for the nature of the crimes.
45:21But it's not very long until he's out again.
45:30Hardy's wife has moved away from the county.
45:32Christopher pleaded guilty to arranging commission of a child's sex offence.
45:40He was sentenced to 15 months in prison
45:43and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
45:45Today, we meet the couple who tell us they're paedophile hunters.
45:50They set up fake profiles of girls and wait for men to get in contact.
45:55This man, Lee Hardy, pleaded guilty and was sent to prison.
46:00The fears continue their campaign to expose online child groomers.
46:13Well, if you've been affected by the programme,
46:15there's support information available online at channel4.com slash support.
46:19Now, move to a new time next week.
46:2124 hours in police custody is back next Thursday at 9.
46:25Things are coming to a head next tonight, though.
