As the Southeast faces record-challenging high temperatures, showers and thunderstorms will continue on the Gulf Coast this weekend.

00:03the gulf coast will be watching out for stormy and sweltery conditions the stormy conditions
00:08will continue as we head into this evening across the gulf coast with showers and storms lifting as
00:12far north as the i-20 corridor between shreveport monroe over towards jackson there in central parts
00:18of mississippi but that's not the only thing we're going to be tracking looking forward we have
00:23another area of low pressure that's going to be working its way across the gulf here as we head
00:27throughout later parts of next week so very similar setup to what we had this week with both
00:31the storms and the heat will persist but overall on radar you can see widespread showers and storms
00:37continuing as of right now no severe storms but we will see some rowdy thunderstorms with some pretty
00:41good lightning there across southern and the central portions of mississippi here as we head
00:46into this evening but overall as we head into tomorrow this is your saturday forecast we'll be
00:51tracking storms to the south sweltering dangerous heat to the north and off to the east the east
00:56coast down into florida we'll see some accu weather real field temperatures climbing as hot
01:00as 115 degrees but air temperatures will be widespread in the 90s and yes charlotte right
01:05there 100 degrees which would tie a record high temperature for tomorrow's calendar date so that's
01:10the kind of heat we're going to be tracking here across parts of the southeast and then sunday for
01:14some areas it gets even hotter with sweltering heat across parts of the southeast in the meantime
01:20it's going to take you live right now to one of those areas i mentioned previously jackson mississippi
01:23all right damien and there we are at the jackson mississippi area 84 there at that part of the town
01:3088 at the airport mississippi dot camp showing smooth sailing it's hot though we have had some recent
01:35thunderstorms actually temporarily cool some of you down we're also dealing with storminess not far
01:40from new orleans 86 corpus christi get 86 but other areas like dallas 98 very warm there very warm
01:46again yesterday we hit 98 that had been our hottest day of the year until today sitting at 98 at the
01:51moment but a big heat wave continues in fact it's going to be expanding and escalating for the
01:56carolinas down into north florida and georgia through wednesday this is going to be with us
02:01for five or six days sweltering sweltering heat from the mississippi valley and the central plains into
02:06the southeast the mid-atlantic states on saturday and some record challenging heat here this may tie
02:11the record for hottest july 20 i'm thinking the 26th here for saturday's date it would be our fourth
02:18july 26th at 100 degrees in charlotte matching the record for 1914-1940 tied 20 years ago we'll
02:24probably break a record high for the date into newburn north carolina at 99 tying a record into
02:28wilmington for the fifth time on july 26th look at the deep deep maroon here that's an accu with a
02:35real field temperature forecast for norfolk down into areas near statesboro georgia and in between
02:40110 to 115 same story for memphis down into longview texas very hot the deep maroon sweltering
02:48heat on the map into the southeast on sunday with more record challenging highs likely to tie a record
02:53in augusta georgia and in charleston south carolina at the century mark and again 110 to 115 from near
03:01raleigh down into near the area of jacksonville florida just off to the west
