Steamy, stormy conditions are expected to stick around for days in the Southeast.
Transcript
00:00Thunderstorms in the southeast have been a dumping heavy rains and spots, which is a great for drought relief, but flash flooding, gusty winds are also a concern. So that rain comes down too heavily. It doesn't have time for the ground to absorb it.
00:17And that's something we're concerned about here over the next couple of days here with the Accuweather network runoff that can lead to flash flooding.
00:23Along with that severe weather, and there's going to be the potential for thunderstorms here as we go throughout the next several hours, a severe thunderstorm watch going until nine o'clock this evening, stretching from southeastern Virginia down throughout much of central and eastern areas of North Carolina.
00:40And this could include again damaging winds, perhaps some hail and torrential rain. Low temperatures for tonight, mainly into the 70s from I-40 on southbound. Northbound, though, different story. Nice night here in Nashville.
00:52Even some hues of green on the map into the Virginias and Kentucky, perhaps some 50s found there. But where the front sits, it's going to continue to be steamy and stormy, and we'll see this play out again as we work our way into Friday.
01:09Some of those thunderstorms traveling their way off to the northeast, again for cities toward Columbia, Anderson, Raleigh, Rocky Mount, beachgoers. Again, if you're heading out to the beaches here, beware, there can be some thunderstorms approaching from the west a little bit later on in the day.
01:26So again, as we work our way through tonight, here's the area of concern yet again. We'll be following this here the next several hours, and when we say the summer is the tier one out of four, that means severe thunderstorms in parts of the area. Some loud thunder going on there in the backdrop, and as we work our way into Friday, temperature-wise here, a little bit on the hot side around Orlando at 96. That's above the historical average, a little below in Raleigh, but a lot of clouds around and some soaking storms as well.
01:56As we head our way in toward the upcoming weekend, temperatures here staying put in the 80s for many, and yes, what else is staying put? The storms. We're going to be talking about drenching showers and thunderstorms beyond the weekend right into next week, and yes, this will aid and help the drought relief to some degree, but we're also going to be looking at the huge travel disruptions going on and the potential here for flash flooding and locally severe thunderstorms.
