00:0016th start position, but there's reason to believe that might turn around today because the whole Pro Circuit Kawasaki team have had to work on it. It hasn't been great across the board, so they changed some clutches. We saw it in Seth Hamaka last weekend. He got some improvements out of it, so they've applied it to these bikes, so keep an eye on these green bikes and see if they can get up front here in the start, JT.
00:21Thank you, Owen. Levi Kitchen, he grew up literally just up the hill from this racetrack. He's going to be trying to get a good start with all of the benefits of the improvements that they've made as well. And keep in mind, on this particular racetrack, the dirt in front of the gate is extremely hard. Bigger guys like Kitchen and Marchbanks won't be as penalized by soft dirt as they would at other racetracks.
00:41Yes, those Kawasaki's have been fast on the track, but not off the start this year. If they can get up front early, see if they can run with Danger Boy, Deegan, the championship leader. And then there's Joe Shimoda on the 30, who beat Deegan two weeks ago. Deegan got hurt in qualifying. It's a rematch now. Here it is. Rives are up. Gates down.
01:02And it's the triumph out front. Second year ever competing in SMX for the storied British brand. It's the 22 of Jalik Swole with another good start.
01:20It gets a little turned down for what? Jalik out there. Good to see him back. This guy just came off an Achilles injury a few races ago. He's been fast, but love to see Jalik Swole out front on that triumph.
01:30Oh, yeah. Great personality on this kid, too. He is totally unfiltered. And boy, has he been riding well. Meanwhile, a big stack up behind him. Believe that is Ryder D. Francesco.
01:41A rider who's been great at qualifying, hasn't been able to translate it to the races, has his chance. Hayden Digg in his third.
01:48Yep, that's the only problem for Jalik and Ryder D is that the number one's already up in third. And we know how he is on this racetrack.
01:56A couple of years ago, really, to bounce back is what the rod that made Hayden Digg in the way he was able to win that motor. So, you know, he's got the confidence. But Jalik's looking great out front.
02:06Yes, Digg in one here in 2023. And that really, in his rookie season, unlocked a new level. And he has not relented much since.
02:13But what a story for Swole coming back, as you said, for the Achilles injury early. About a month ago in Pennsylvania at High Point. And then got on a podium not far after that. And has been a frontrunner week after week for this new brand in motocross.
02:29They're very well established in road racing, Will.
02:32And it's not only the return from the Achilles heel rupture that's the problem. He's also suffering right now from a UCL, which is the ligament in the thumb. He did that at Southwick. So, ever since the week after Southwick, several rounds ago now, he hasn't been able to ride during the week. Checking in with him today.
02:49It was all taped up. And he said, oh, as he goes down. And that won't feel good. He said, what? I don't need is crashes. That causes problems.
02:57Oh, boy, Will. And I believe he might be stuck under the motorcycle. Not sure what happened.
03:04Yeah, that was a hard hit from Jalik because he started to go double in that corner. And it went down. And the way he was laying there, hate to speculate it, might be a little bit more than being stuck.
03:13Yeah, we certainly hope not. And we'll get a moment to see where the situation is for the 22.
03:18As Ryder DeFrancisco out of Bakersfield, California, inherits the lead. Once one of the great prospects of amateur motocross in America.
03:27There they are. There is Swole. Now up and trying to shake it off.
03:33And being attended to by the Alpine Stars Mobile Medics. It's a series of doctors that follow the racers week to week.
03:40They know the riders. They know the types of injuries common in motocross. And hopefully Swole will be okay.
03:46And we have a replay of the crash for the early race leader.
03:50Yeah, talking about going from the top. Hasn't led a lap all year long. He's been out front.
03:56Now he's up there. And he can put a little bit of water down. He's going to try to double in this little hip jumper.
04:00Actually loses the front end right there. You can tell they put a little bit of water down.
04:04And out hard this base here at Washougal. Tough hit for Jalik Swole.
04:08Didn't look too bad. But I know how hard this ground is. Bumming for Jalik.
04:13So, James, with DeFrancisco out front, this is a battle that many had anticipated for years.
04:19Deegan and DeFrancisco, Southern California natives.
04:22Pretty similar in age. They came through the amateur ranks.
04:25DeFrancisco a year older. Often one would win one class. One would win the other.
04:30For Deegan, it is absolutely translated to the pro side.
04:33For DeFrancisco, we've seen flashes of brilliance, but not the results.
04:37This is much more like it for the 25, Will.
04:40Yeah, and it's cliche. We say it all the time, right, Jason?
04:43But the start's so important. Talking to Ryder yesterday.
04:47You could see the anxiety on his face when he was even just thinking about it.
04:50He's like, I know that's what I need. All the pieces are there.
04:52Like you said, we've seen pace in fastest qualifiers in past rounds.
04:56And he said, I've just got to get out there.
04:58And he was sitting next to his team mate in the Gas Gas team there in Justin Barsha.
05:03And Barsha took over and he said, you've got this.
05:06He said, you just have to calm down and let it happen.
05:09And he just pointed over to his team mate and he's like, okay, that's what I'll do.
05:12He almost went down to that same section that trolled in, James.
05:16Yeah, no, I was just thinking about what Barsha said.
05:18That's kind of a kettle calling the pot black on that, if I calm it down.
05:22But Justin's been around. He knows what he's meaning.
05:25He's just meaning like, look, man, you've got this speed.
05:27Just let it come to you.
05:28And now you can start to see it in practice.
05:30It's coming to you.
05:31But his only problem, so is Hayden Deegan.
05:33He's coming to you right now.
05:36And Deegan already trying to make a move.
05:38They collide.
05:39And somehow DeFrancisco goes down, but Deegan stays up.
05:42Man, you can see that one coming.
05:44And when things are rolling your right way, it just happens.
05:48Hayden Deegan got so lucky right there.
05:50Unfortunately for Rodney, he got the worst in.
05:52But when things are rolling for you, you can escape those kind of crashes.
05:56He crashed, but he stayed on two wheels on that Hayden Deegan, that is.
06:00Honestly, James, that is symbolic in so many ways.
06:03So many of the supposed rivals that Deegan has been able to dispose of the last couple of years in his rise.
06:09And also how many times have we seen Deegan with near crashes or spectacular crashes that he quickly gets up from.
06:15And this is another one of those scenarios.
06:17Yeah, this is that 100-foot double that they just built now, these two lanes now.
06:21Hayden Deegan is going to go on the outside.
06:23And these lines just come together.
06:26And again, Hayden, both these guys got really lucky.
06:29Ryder D goes down, but he got lucky that it wasn't a lot worse.
06:32You can see these lines starting to come together.
06:34Total racing incident.
06:35But as you mentioned, now, since Ryder D, he was out front, every lap he's getting that confidence.
06:42He's on the ground.
06:43So talking about, hey, Deegan, continue to just build.
06:46Ryder D won't have that opportunity because he's in the back now chasing.
06:50There's been so many of those.
06:51They get a hook in him.
06:52It looks like something might be materializing.
06:54And whatever reason, Deegan is able to come out the better.
06:59Shout out to this Ryder.
07:01Dylan Schwartz in third of the 44.
07:02This is the Toyota of Redlands, Bar-X Yamaha.
07:05They get support from Yamaha, but they are not the official factory team of the special parts.
07:10And this kid is getting better and better every week.
07:12He's always known for his strength and endurance.
07:15But the starts and the early race speed have been on display the last couple of races.
07:19Yeah, and Dylan has had some speed all day long.
07:23I would say this is kind of a breakout ride.
07:24He was second and third in the qualifying today.
07:27So he's getting that confidence.
07:29It's starting to close in on Joe Shimoto.
07:31So good ride to see from Dylan up here up front.
07:35And we mentioned at the top of this show, just before the gate drop, the starts for the Kawasaki's have been a problem they continue to be.
07:43Marchbank's started around 11th.
07:44He is in 6th.
07:46He's got this rider, Max Voland, on the Muckoff FXR Club MX Yamaha, another Yamaha supported team.
07:52Voland is running 4th.
07:55Then another one of the triumphs with Austin Forkner, who's starting to show some signs the last couple of weeks.
08:01Another rider.
08:02A deacon rival.
08:03A rider with talent.
08:04Best set by injuries.
08:05The 25th.
08:06Then Marchbank's the fast qualifier in 6th.
08:08Yeah, and you talk about Austin Forkner, you know, he's at this point, he's just trying to make every race.
08:14This rider has a lot of injuries.
08:16Marchbank's made the move on Forkner.
08:17Yeah, Gary's been fast all day long.
08:19So, you know, you talk about different positions where they are.
08:22Being rivals, his amateur is coming into pro.
08:24One's been injured a lot, and that's Austin Forkner just trying to make the races.
08:28So good to see him back up here.
08:30Fortunately for his teammate, he goes down.
08:31But right now, Austin's number one on triumph right now as far as teammates.
08:36Yeah, Forkner on that 83 to triumph.
08:38His first top 10 of the season was last weekend.
08:41This guy has been through probably more adversity than anyone out here today, and that says a lot.
08:46In motocross, had a huge crash while battling Deegan for a win in Supercross last year.
08:51Crashed onto the concrete of the stadium floor.
08:54And when they were checking him for concussion protocol, they discovered blood vessels in his brain that needed surgery.
09:01Not related to the concussion, but he said it could have resulted in strokes, seizures, something much more serious than a sports injury.
09:09He has returned from brain surgery in a rebuild year, and we are starting to see signs of the old Austin Forkner speed.
09:16Last week, with eighth, and even better now, in sixth.
09:20Yeah, it's a great opportunity to have him up here.
09:25Seth Hanbecker coming through next, Will.
09:27Yeah, and Seth's battling injury himself after the last weekend, though.
09:31He tweaked his knee.
09:32I checked back in with him today while he was actually getting taped up from his physio doc.
09:36G, asking him how it was.
09:38They got an MRI.
09:39Damage in there is a little bit of meniscus there and some bone bruising with a fracture on the top of his tibial plateau.
09:46So nothing that needs surgery, but the tape was substantial.
09:50We were joking that he was using more tape than he had any other time in the year, because he's also got a shoulder injury going on.
09:57So he is very much looking forward to this two-week break, as a few riders are, to be able to refresh there and get themselves healthy.
10:03And thank you, Will.
10:05He knocked the wind out of himself in a moto last week, recovered from that, only to tweak the knee later in the day.
10:10And that's the story.
10:12Potential for others and results for Hayden Deegan, who's flying high and getting away here at Washougal.
10:20Enjoy the sounds of motocross at the break with Peacock.
10:22Let's go.
10:52Let's go.
11:22Let's go.
11:52Let's go.
11:54Let's go.
11:57Let's go.
12:02Let's go.
12:11Let's go.
12:16Oh, my God.
12:46Oh, my God.
13:03Hayden Deegan, the 19-year-old out of Temecula, California, leading the Fly Racing Washougal National Pro Motocross.
13:09He's got a 2.6-second lead over Joe Shimoda, and it looks like Deegan James Stewart has this under control, but it's been a story for a lot of the year.
13:17Shimoda lurking, and he does not relent, and he's keeping Deegan somewhat in check in second.
13:24Yeah, we saw Hayden Deegan about a half lap ago take a look back.
13:28Joe's still there, and he's actually starting to close, but for those listeners on Peacock, you know, listening to Hayden Deegan's bike, you know, when he rods, he rods mad.
13:37You know, and I think about, you know the old Snickers commercial where the guy has the attitude, they give him Snickers, he changed back to his person.
13:44Well, Hayden Deegan rides like somebody stole his lunch money, and he hasn't ate for weeks.
13:48He's hungry, he's mad when he rides, and that's his whole attitude, but right now, Joe Shimoda is starting to close that gap, and we know how strong he is at the end of the moto.
13:57Yeah, that's Shimoda's best late in the race on that red Honda, keeping it close.
14:04Hey, we mentioned the SMX playoffs coming soon.
14:07They offer some of the most unique fan opportunities in sports to get the inside track to the experience of a lifetime.
14:13Go to smxexperiences.com to learn more and become part of the action.
14:18The best part is when you get to be right there near the podium, which is pretty unique to this sport.
14:24Get the champagne shower.
14:27Yeah, you come to the playoffs, you get a lot of things outside of just great racing as well.
14:32Yeah, let's just send Deegan over some of these jumps, you're talking about it.
14:35How he'll rev the bike, coming up by that 100-footer here.
14:40Yeah.
14:47They all rev the bikes, but there's something different about the way it sounds for Deegan.
14:52Sounds like he's mad.
14:57I think he's going to be mad because, look at this, Shimoda just continues to close, and a battle for the lead about to materialize here.
15:04The rider from Japan has caught Deegan.
15:07Yeah, you know, not only is Hayden revving his motorcycle, but I can tell he normally always revs it, but he's in, like, a lower gear.
15:14He's spinning up a lot.
15:15When I hear that bike, especially here at Washougal, he's losing a lot of time because of traction.
15:19So I don't know if he's upset because it's normally how he's riding, but he needs to shift that thing because Joe Shimoda has the pace going on.
15:26And this is a huge confidence for Joe to be able to close him in, and we're not even halfway yet.
15:31There's the early race leader, Jalik Swole, in the mechanics area.
15:33Good to see he did get back on the motorcycle, but it does look like his race is over.
15:41Crowds starting to respond as they jump back into the valley, and they realize Shimoda's here to fight for it.
15:46I like that line by Joe.
15:49It's a little bit slower, but as this race goes on, it's going to pay off.
15:53JT.
15:55Well, Joe Shimoda, you see him here closing the gap, and he's got a couple of things working for him.
15:59You think back, Monsterage Supercross, who was the only guy to really get aggressive with Hayden Deegan and take the fight to him?
16:05That was Joe Shimoda.
16:06Look at those early rounds of pro motocross.
16:08He was the only guy that could keep him in sight, and he also knows that Hayden Deegan is less than 100%.
16:13All of that builds confidence, and that's going to help Joe Shimoda in the latter stages of this race.
16:19That's right, JT. Deegan took a handlebar to the leg two weeks ago at Red Buddies.
16:23Not a serious injury, but not quite perfect, and that could be a difference maker here.
16:29Yeah.
16:29Halfway through, just a quick reminder, James, about 15 minutes to go.
16:33You can purchase Monster Energy at Fred Meyer.
16:36I don't know what's going to happen in these final 15 minutes.
16:38Yeah, well, you just go back a week ago.
16:40Joe was able to do this the first moto last weekend, so.
16:43Him, he's getting that confidence to be able to run Hayden Deegan down, which is rare in itself.
16:48Joe's been able to do that two weeks in a row, but let's see if he learns from last weekend,
16:53because when does he pass Hayden Deegan?
16:55He didn't drop the hammer.
16:56He wasn't able to get away, and we know how resilient Hayden is.
16:59You let that guy hang around.
17:01You see how mad he is.
17:02You see how loud that motorcycle is.
17:04He never gives up.
17:04There's that brand new 100-foot jump, like we said.
17:09That is more to the length of an NBA court.
17:11They jump it no problem, and the battle resumes.
17:21Great stuff.
17:23That's what they call Horsepower Hill.
17:25It's going to be a drive race to the top.
17:36What a great drone shot.
17:38Thanks, Chris Buck, giving us the realness of this.
17:41Pretty good.
17:42Now you can tell Hayden Deegan's starting to pick up the pace.
17:44I believe he was kind of waiting for Joe.
17:46He knows at one point, once he was only three seconds and it was starting to stabilize,
17:49he was not going to get away from him.
17:53We learn some of the old tricks of Jane Stewart every week on this show.
17:56Yeah, you've talked about that a lot.
17:58When you can't get away, you'll almost use a couple laps to rest to prepare for battle.
18:02You've got to prepare for it.
18:03You've got to have enough gas in the tank.
18:04So no point.
18:06You know how long the trip is.
18:07No point in running out of Petro.
18:11And what it does, not only are you resting your body,
18:14but it starts to upset the guy behind you.
18:17They start to get flustered because they're like,
18:19man, I caught this guy.
18:20All of a sudden, he started picking a pace.
18:22And what that puts Joe, it makes him have to start picking his pace up.
18:26Now he gets out of that zone where he was really comfortable
18:28and he might make a mistake.
18:30Jason, we just saw it play out in that 450 class.
18:33Exactly what was happening.
18:34Chase Exxon got out front.
18:36Gap stabilized.
18:37He knew Jet Lawrence was going there.
18:38And Jet ended up making a mistake.
18:40So as quickly as Joe got there, now Hayden's starting to pull away.
18:44And motocross, one of the most physically demanding sports.
18:46These riders are probably pulling 160, 180 heart rate for the whole 30 minutes.
18:51But how much of that is mental strategy, confidence waiting and flowing throughout this battle?
18:58It's a lot.
18:59It's really mental.
19:00I mean, the whole story that we're talking about, Austin Forkner,
19:03you know, Jaleek Swole, all these guys coming in.
19:06And Hayden has the confidence.
19:08And when you have confidence and belief in something, then these guys can rock.
19:11All of them are very talented.
19:13So for me, racing, it's a lot that comes down to mentally.
19:17And it's never about just going as fast as you can.
19:19It's a chess game out there.
19:21You're watching the best to do it play out in front of you.
19:24Bottom box is Levi Kitchen, the hometown native, looking to make a move on Mikkel Harup,
19:30the rider out of the Danish rider.
19:34And Kitchen, and they're battling hard.
19:37That was a nice pass.
19:38Serve him up.
19:39Serve him up.
19:41Problem for Kitchen again is the bad start.
19:43And his record at his home track, Jason Thomas mentioned top of the show,
19:48he could actually ride his bike from his parents' house to the track.
19:53But his results here are mixed.
19:54Fifth overall last year.
19:57Sorry, in 2023, sixth overall last year.
20:00The problem has been the first motos for Kitchen have been terrible.
20:03Second motos have been much better.
20:05He went 12-4 last year.
20:07And once again, he's fired at traffic at his home race in Moto 1.
20:11And Hayden Deegan beginning to reestablish the lead.
20:16At Washougal.
20:18And Shimoda, now three seconds back.
20:22Yeah, Hayden picked up the pace quite a bit on here.
20:25Now, see if Joe can run with him.
20:27He's been a little off on the pace as far as outright speed with Hayden Deegan.
20:31So, Deegan took a look back.
20:35Is that a good sign when you look back and you don't see the guy?
20:37Yeah, he wants to know if what he's doing is starting to work.
20:40Otherwise, we've got to go to our next Chex move.
20:46Doesn't need it yet.
20:47But working for Deegan.
20:49See if he can keep it working all the way to the end.
20:51Go.
20:53Go.
20:58Go.
20:59Go.
21:00Go.
21:07Go.
21:09Go.
21:10Oh, my God.
21:40Oh, my God.
22:10Oh, my God.
22:40Oh, my God.
23:10Oh, my God.
23:40Oh, my God.
23:42Oh, my God.
23:46Oh, my God.
23:48Oh, my God.
23:50Oh, my God.
23:52Oh, my God.
23:54Oh, my God.
23:56Oh, my God.
23:58Oh, my God.
24:00Oh, my God.
24:02Oh, my God.
24:04Oh, my God.
24:06Oh, my God.
24:08Oh, my God.
24:10Oh, my God.
24:12Oh, my God.
24:14Participating Drogdeegan in against Jett and Hunter Lawrence, Chase Sexton, Eli Tomac.
24:19What could that look like in 2026?
24:22And I heard from Hayden's mechanic, Brent Duffy.
24:27Hayden's going to jump on a 450 for a couple of days.
24:30There's a few weeks off in the championship, a break coming up.
24:33And he's going to jump on a 450 for a few days to try it out.
24:37I don't want to get people too excited again.
24:39It's probably not going to be until 2026 you see if race won.
24:42In this championship, at least.
24:44Yeah, there's no point of it besides exactly to keep people talking.
24:48They know what they're doing up there.
24:49But, you know, this is what I love about Hayden Deegan is Joe.
24:52Now he's kind of dropped off the pace.
24:54We saw quickly Joe closed him.
24:56Hayden picked up that pace.
24:57And as I was saying, now as a rider, you start getting flustered.
25:01Because you think you caught this guy, you're able to get him around.
25:04Hayden picks up that pace.
25:05Joe makes a few mistakes, and he ran a 219 that last lap,
25:09which is two seconds off his best lap time.
25:10And when Hayden Deegan, the lap before, ran his best time,
25:14that's where this rider has got it figured out.
25:17Hayden, that is, is mentally, he's getting it done.
25:20That's impressive.
25:21A big lead.
25:22It is impressive how fast they're both going in the lead they have.
25:25But we still have to shout out this third-place rider.
25:28This will be the first-ever podium moto finish for Dylan Schwartz
25:31out of Alpod, California.
25:33Season best is a seventh.
25:35Career best is a sixth.
25:37But this has been brewing.
25:39You see how the results have gotten better.
25:42And at Redbud, he was in this position.
25:43He actually had a rock stuck in the sprocket and drivetrain of the bike.
25:49So that result at Redbud two weeks ago was spoiled by that.
25:52He's been riding well on the 44 the last couple of weekends.
25:55And now it might pay off.
25:58Battle behind him.
25:59Marchbanks has taken fourth.
26:03Then it's Forkner.
26:04Then it's Boland.
26:05And a great fight for that fourth, fifth, and sixth spot.
26:08Yeah.
26:08And Austin just got around Boland, too.
26:11So great to see Austin up in the top five.
26:14And we know his story.
26:16It's been getting better and better throughout the year.
26:18This motorcycle has gotten better and better.
26:20Good to see him up here.
26:21He's going to have his hands full with Seth Handmaker.
26:24Handmaker, Marchbanks, they're all lurking right now.
26:27Marchbanks just ahead.
26:28There's Forkner.
26:29He's got that neon yellow helmet on the Triumph.
26:32Can he hold off Boland, number 92?
26:34Yeah, that section's really slipped.
26:35We saw Boland almost lose the front end.
26:38And right behind him, you've got Austin's teammate, Jordan Smith.
26:41Good to see him up here starting to close that gap.
26:44And this is what he needs.
26:45He needs these guys to battle, slow that pace down,
26:47and maybe Jordan can end up getting around all three of these guys for a top five.
26:51So it's Marchbanks ahead of these riders.
26:57He's climbed to fourth.
26:58Then this 83 of Forkner's fifth.
27:00Boland's sixth, Handmaker's seventh.
27:03With Smith, Harup, and Forkner running well again for Triumph.
27:08Swole had that early lead.
27:09He crashed out last week.
27:10They had four of the top ten finishers on that team.
27:13Looking for three out of the top ten here.
27:15They are definitely putting things together in their second year.
27:20Race and dirt bikes in America will.
27:21I got to talk to Jordan Smith about that whole process a little bit earlier, Jason,
27:27as we see them running in this top ten again.
27:29And they were just extremely proud of their work.
27:31They said the vibe there over at the team is great, just seeing the progress.
27:34And I asked about what the week looks like.
27:36And he said, we're making fairly bold changes, but it's always, let's figure it out.
27:41Let's decide, are we running with this?
27:43No, let's get our motos done.
27:44So he said, the work's still there, but they're trying lots of things.
27:48And he said, that's sort of process that they've figured out.
27:50He attributed their success and how much they're moving forward to that.
27:54He said, because we don't go down an alley.
27:56We don't sort of go down this path too far.
27:58He said, are we running with this?
27:59Are we not?
27:59If we are, we make progress with that setting.
28:02So that's been their strategy.
28:03It certainly is.
28:06By the way, look at the graphics of the bike.
28:07This is considered the military appreciation race.
28:10So a lot of the bikes have a little bit different livery than usual.
28:13That would be the case for Marchbanks, who we see has caught Schwartz in a battle for third.
28:20Trying to take that first ever career podium moto finish away from the 44.
28:25Yeah, Dylan's in trouble right now because if anybody on this racetrack has figured out how to pass people,
28:31it's Garrett Marchbanks, our fastest qualifier earlier.
28:34Dylan's doing a good job, but I think Garrett either trying to square him up.
28:37Nice line by him, blocking him.
28:39But Garrett's going to end up getting around.
28:41He's been making that time, and we know he has that pace.
28:44But the starts have been a problem, and it seems like every year, every weekend,
28:49we're talking about Garrett coming up through the pack with the speed,
28:52but it's always coming up through the back of the pack.
28:54He has passed over 130 riders this season.
28:58Oh, the 100-foot jump.
29:00Schwartz didn't clear it.
29:01He came up short, bounced the landing.
29:02It's 100-foot.
29:03He came up 99-and-a-half, a little bounce, and there you go.
29:07Garrett's made that pass.
29:09Now moves his way up into third, but still a great ride by Dylan to be in that top five
29:13and been strong this whole moto.
29:16Oh, absolutely.
29:17It's a building process for him.
29:19And look, he wants to get Marchbanks back.
29:21And maybe he can sit back, and, you know, being up here, he knows the pace.
29:25I mean, his lap times are pretty similar to Garrett.
29:29Maybe he can find out some lines, try to stick with him.
29:33But it's going to be hard to do with the 36.
29:35He's in the role right now.
29:38JT.
29:39The number 44, Dylan Schwartz.
29:41Unfortunately, it looks like he may be giving up that podium spot.
29:43But this is the building for a few weeks, Jason.
29:46We think about that Redbud nationally qualifies out of nowhere in the top three.
29:50That was kind of the first sign.
29:52And it's very rare that these riders will put in a result like this without signs of it beforehand.
29:57You see him laboring a little bit.
29:58He's probably been pushing harder to this moto than he ever has before.
30:02But this is kind of the culmination of progress that he's shown over multiple weeks.
30:07And it's a great look here for the 44.
30:09And the whole team, JT, the Toyota Redlands Bar X Yamaha squad,
30:12got a couple other riders who have been putting in great results as well,
30:15like the rookie Parker Ross, who is running 12th right now.
30:18So they're building something, a team that had raced Suzuki's for a long time.
30:23Now switching to Yamaha this season.
30:26And it's really taken them the bulk of the year to adjust to that motorcycle.
30:30But to talk to Quartz last week in Minnesota, much happier with the bike.
30:34And it's showing.
30:35As for Marchbanks up ahead of him, he's got the vibes.
30:38Cameron Hayes, who's the Grand Marshal this weekend, a world-class bow hunter.
30:41And he found out that Marchbanks is a fan.
30:45So Marchbanks and Eli Tomac went out yesterday.
30:50Shot the bows in a real special ceremony in the center of the racetrack.
30:56And Hayes is pretty impressed at what Marchbanks and Tomac were able to do.
30:59And Marchbanks now up to a podium spot in third.
31:02Had the good vibes all weekend.
31:03Yeah, dropping bows on people, dropping bows out here.
31:07I know who not, if I'm stuck in the woods, I want to hang out with Garrett or Eli.
31:10They can shoot something.
31:11You want to be on their side?
31:11Yeah, I want to be on their side.
31:15Marchbanks, one previous career moto podium.
31:19Colorado moto won it this year.
31:22And again, that was a day where he had not terrible starts.
31:25I'd say medium starts.
31:27And was able to take advantage of that.
31:28Then moto too had his problems.
31:30Marchbanks looking for the podium overall today.
31:32Yeah, and that's crazy how good he's been riding only one, you know, podium.
31:39And he's running third in the point.
31:40So it shows you how consistent he has been.
31:43But all these guys, you asked me that question earlier, is this mental?
31:47And Jason said it perfectly.
31:49You got to start seeing those signs.
31:50And then all of a sudden they pop up.
31:53It really comes down to mentally because these guys haven't just figured out how to go faster.
31:56They're starting to believe in each other.
31:57And right now, George Smith is starting to believe that he can get that top five
32:01around his teammate because he's able to get around Bolin and Handmaker.
32:07Now he's right behind his teammate for sixth place.
32:09Yeah, I think they're believing in the bike.
32:11This is week after week.
32:12You're seeing the triumphs in the top ten now making advances toward the podium.
32:15Top five, Forkner fifth, Smith sixth.
32:19That's them battling with the bright colors there on the bikes.
32:25The 83 and the 19.
32:26And for the moment at least, able to shed Handmaker, who would be next in line on that green.
32:33Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki, the 56.
32:36And now a lot of traffic for them to deal with.
32:38And a reminder, second moto's coming up.
32:41You can watch it live on Peacock or the SMX video pass outside the United States.
32:47Yeah, you see how quickly Jordan almost ran in the back of Austin in that corner.
32:53It almost looks like he was going to run into him.
32:55Again, I believe a lot of that was coming from Roos.
32:57He knows if you get really close to a rider, the way they're tired, the roots comes off the tire.
33:02If you get close to him, you actually get missed.
33:04So I think Jordan Smith, really confident.
33:07He's able to catch Austin.
33:08He probably knows he's probably a little bit more in shape than Austin because Austin's been out.
33:14And if anybody on the racetrack you want to beat, you want to beat your teammate.
33:18Who's going to be the top triumph, the triumphant triumph in this battle?
33:23Smith, the veteran out of Belmont, North Carolina.
33:25But now all the triumphant riders live in Georgia.
33:28Ride, train, test the motorcycles together there.
33:32Unique things about motocross.
33:35No simulators.
33:36They're on the bikes during the week replicating this exact battle.
33:39I bet you on a Tuesday probably doesn't look much different.
33:43Yeah, I like what Jordan's doing.
33:45He's going outsides and not necessarily trying to pass him,
33:48but he's trying to make Austin think about where he's at and maybe Austin would make a mistake.
33:52But nonetheless, it's still a great ride by the 83 out here.
33:55Running top five at the end of the moto.
33:58Jordan's going to have his hands full, but I believe if he gets close to him,
34:01there's a couple places where he can, he's a little bit quicker.
34:03He might be able to get his teammate.
34:06Got to use these lappers as almost like a pick and roll if you get close enough to him.
34:09Still time, a lap and a half left.
34:15Hayden Deegan has pulled away from Joe Shimoda.
34:18Marchbank's getting away from Schwartz, leaving this battle as the closest in the top five.
34:23To be huge for Forkner if he can get that top five.
34:28He hasn't had one since Ironman in 2023 in a moto.
34:35Yeah, when you talk about Jordan Smith and how fast he's been,
34:38he's running the same lap times as the two leaders out front at 221s.
34:41And that's really impressive, thinking that he's been making passes
34:45and a little bit quicker than his teammate.
34:48But Austin's doing a great job and knowing where Jordan wants to go
34:51and blocking that line.
34:54Making a difference for him.
34:58Nowhere to go for Smith in that corner?
35:00No, Austin.
35:01Austin, no, you just take a little break.
35:02A little clean there right here.
35:03Yep.
35:06Didn't have to hustle about one line section.
35:09Now about to head back uphill as Skyway jump into the sand.
35:14Now let's see if Jordan can get up.
35:15He's got to stay close to him because I believe the way his lines are
35:18through the whoops running that outside, he stays close to Austin.
35:22I think he'll be able to get around him with that more momentum by using that outside.
35:25But Austin's doing a great job at bridging that gap.
35:29Jordan's not close enough now.
35:30Let's see what he does here.
35:31Meanwhile, Joe Shimoda's not close enough anymore either.
35:37Hayden Deegan to look over his left shoulder to make sure he has running room.
35:41The dominant champion last year.
35:43The dominant series leader this year.
35:47At a track that he's never lost on.
35:51He'll be back for Moto2 today in about an hour to try to keep that streak alive.
35:55You can watch that on Peacock.
35:57As for the NBC show, Danger Boy, the sensation delivering again.
36:01Yeah, this gap has been about five seconds, this whole moto.
36:07And I like what Joe's doing because even though he's got 20 seconds between him and Garrett Marks,
36:12push Hayden towards the end.
36:14Like, you know, if you slow down, then Hayden's going to start wrestling for that second moto.
36:18So, just, you might as well keep pushing it, especially if you believe in your fitness.
36:22And we know how strong Joe has been in these second moto.
36:24Just continue to push him.
36:26You know you're not going to beat him, but you're going to keep pushing him for that next race.
36:29And you never know what's going to happen.
36:31He wins this moto.
36:34Deegan will tie none other than Eli Tomac for 11th all-time in career moto wins in this 250 class.
36:42He'll be the 23rd moto win of his career.
36:46And if he continues to win at this clip, he's only 19.
36:52Could become the third winningest teenager in this class of the history, this sport behind Oldie.
36:57You're in there again, James.
37:00You and our colleague Ricky Carmichael, he can't catch you.
37:03I got him.
37:03Yep, he can't catch you.
37:04He's going to run out of teenage years before he gets to me.
37:08That's right.
37:10Yeah, even if he did come back to the 256th year, he'd be 20.
37:13So, that record is undoable.
37:16Unstewable?
37:16It's unstewable.
37:17That record's going to be undoable for sure.
37:21But he's down from the best of today.
37:23Hayden Deegan, another moto win en route.
37:28Saluted by the fans here at Washougal.
37:33Danger boy.
37:35Hayden Deegan wins moto one.
37:40Joe Shimoda pushed it halfway through the race.
37:42He got to the rear wheel of Deegan, but couldn't hang there.
37:46And he will take second on the Honda.
37:48And another one for the Monster Energy Omaha Star Racing Team.
37:55Deegan's headed to the podium.
37:56We will chat with him next.
