00:00like supercross so it took them a while to figure out again with 40 bikes nearly twice as many as
00:06there are in supercross how could you do it and this is what they've come up with this is new for
00:102025 and it helps preserve this incredible race that was brewing for the first nine minutes
00:1830 second card is up they will release jet lawrence first and the race will be on
00:23i'll go out on a limb say jet's gonna hold
00:25john's gonna hold shot here on the left he's got to go
00:48and that is the way it looks at practice every morning but there's a lot more on the line here
00:52as the battle resumes it's jet lawrence hunter lawrence chase sexton eli tomac one two three
00:58four and sexton immediately attacks hunter for second yeah nice move by chase i believe hunter
01:04made a small mistake but chase wanted to get in front of him now the race is on and eli tomac goes
01:10up the inside of hunter lawrence as well i believe hunter whether he missed the brakes not surprised
01:14he went on the outside but nonetheless got the top three in reverse order and that pass for tomac was
01:20so critical james because sexton can't rest for the overall in second he needs to beat tomac this is
01:26going to get interesting tomac can go to the front he could still win the overall and hunter's fighting
01:31back as well yeah eli knows he needs to get on chase chase looks like he's the one that's the most
01:36aggressive so as eli and they didn't put any water down which is great so these guys are going at it
01:44i'm chase sexton i'm exactly where i want to be at especially if i can keep that 18 close to just give
01:49me some confidence if tomac were to get sexton you have a two two sexton's one three would edge him
01:55by one point you don't want to get into a battle in this situation tomac has nothing to lose everything
02:03to gain same for hunter and all gent lawrence could do is hope for help and he might be able to control
02:10it himself because i'm not sure that sexton's thinking overall man chase got that ktm working through
02:17those whoops he's able to get in there and get a drive that bike is planted so i think he wants to
02:22win the moto yeah i mean the good thing for chase that he doesn't have the luxury just to sit here
02:27just take the overall because you got the number three pushing him and eli is just as fired up as
02:32chase is because of what happened at first moto so i believe these guys are going to continue to push
02:36each other and go for this win yes if towback passes sexton and lawrence wins the moto then lawrence
02:43wins wins the overall so sexton has to hustle because here is tomac yeah they just got to be
02:48careful to uh eli and chase sex and work together and try to continue to push because we see how
02:54quickly jet lawrence to get away from these guys and look at the gap they already have on hunter lawrence
02:59and justin cooper is in fifth hampshire barsha nichols stewart guillaume round out the top 10 tomac
03:10had a wheel on sexton yeah looking at chase's body position i don't know if he's trying to let the
03:16the race kind of play out but he's definitely not as aggressive as he was when we saw him in the opening
03:21laps and that before that restart and even after he gone after the restart
03:29that is hunter and then in that bottom box then hampshire then cooper hampshire in the middle with
03:35the blue gear
03:38jet lawrence starting to get away yeah chase made a small little mistake and eli made the same thing
03:44waiting to see which direction this will go
03:54it could come down to this battle tomac versus sexton again sexton can hold on up to this second
04:00he wins the overall features back to third lawrence wins lawrence wins the overall jt i i firmly believe
04:08that chase sexton wants to go win this moto you think how much time he's had to spend behind jet lawrence
04:13this has been going on since the summer of 2023 now he's on form today i think that ktm chassis works
04:20really really well in this hard pack you heard james mention how planted he looks when you have an
04:24opportunity like this and jet lawrence looks a little vulnerable you want to strike the overall win is
04:30there we all know that but this is about a lot more than that for chase sexton in my eyes yeah i'm with you
04:36jt and and the way chase is riding i don't think he has a choice but to go win the race because
04:42eli has the pace and how quickly he's able to close in on jet lawrence you know he's going to be
04:48stuck you almost have to slow down and man that ktm looks so good in some of these flatter parts at a
04:53racetrack but if i'm jet lawrence man i i want to get away from because every lap chase exton stays
04:59here he's getting more confidence he was able to beat me in that first moto i was the one that made
05:04the mistake and you know how strong chase has been in these second motos and how strong he is just
05:08physically kind of want to end them and have him start racing eli tomac race backwards not forward
05:14towards me nearing the halfway mark still a lot that can happen here at washugal jet lawrence's
05:21overall win streak is on the line sexton would have it right now
05:30and for these guys this motor is going to feel like a sprint because we're only a minute and a
05:34half before halfway they were able to sit there on the in the gate for about 10 minutes they're
05:39completely rested so now you're all out 17 minute sprint it feels like and you see jet lawrence trying
05:46to sprint away lead is about a second now for lawrence man eli tomac though he is riding well
05:55what a difference compared to last week we were just mystified as we watched tomac just going backwards
06:02in both motos at millville and now we're back to a classic tomac and sexton fight we've seen many
06:10times over the years they took the championship in 2022 down to the final laps of the final moto
06:19and they're duking it out again yeah they're duking it out chase feels like he's pretty comfortable i
06:24think if this gap stays you know a couple seconds he'll be pretty comfortable he's really quick here
06:29jet seems like he's better after the finish line until the mechanics there he was quicker there
06:34in the first moto but chase is able to close in up on here
06:44these groups have been good for the number one halfway through a reminder monster energy available
06:52at fred meyer they have left hunter lawrence behind it is down to these three
06:57some of the best racing you'll ever see in the early stages of this moto
07:03yeah eli see how this tire plays out now you see how quickly chase was able to close in on jet
07:11now jet has stretched it out this next section right here he's got a line figured out let's
07:16see if chases made that change
07:18so you're looking for something different from sexton here i'm just admiring the talent baby
07:29i'm just admiring the talent it is impressive yeah
07:33yeah i'm just kind of looking at eli's bike when he gets on some of these splattered corners
07:37you know if he can catch these guys how can he pass them i do believe it's going to be one of those he
07:42got the cut out of the corner right on that hard pack and does he have the tire to be able to do
07:47that we know that scoop tire is not necessarily a hard pack tire
07:52yeah with the sand scoop tire there to be a little different hey the super motocross playoffs

08:22teasing that you got to think the two here are connected for chase sexton we're going into a break
08:27he said several times that he wants to be strong in these last three rounds of the boat of the pro
08:33motocross season then we go into playoffs he's got his eye on the prize there i've spoken to
08:38several members of the team i've spoken to his dad about it they want to be in a solid position
08:43remember this is why chase sexton came back he didn't come back just to prove a point he came back
08:48because he knew the super motocross playoffs were coming up and he wanted to put himself in good
08:53position so james what will this do for him two weeks off when he's left it like this and then he's
08:59going to pick up on three strong tracks it's got to be huge for him yeah it's huge for him and you
09:04could see the difference between the way he opened this this second moto up the difference
09:08between chase being able to win that first moto how aggressive he is that that confidence and i do
09:14believe every lap that he stays here eventually he's going to want to get around jet lawrence but
09:18every lap he stays here to just get more and more confident look they all feel like they can beat
09:22jet lawrence but until they go do it you just really never know so chase can somehow do this going into
09:28that two-week break it's going to feel good on the fishing boat or whatever you like to do
09:33it's good from a math standpoint too this is the combined smx points as they run you look at the
09:37lower left of the screen justin cooper has taken control the number one seed from the injured cooper
09:42webb but it was going to be close between sexton and jet lawrence at the current pace they were on
09:48sexton he can win the overall will claw a few points back from what lawrence has gained over the last
09:57couple of weeks and that could be the difference between sexton being a higher seed than lawrence
10:01going into the playoffs yeah no i agree and we know how big that is i mean it came down to one
10:06point last year between like brothers so jay sexton knows how important it is that's one of the reasons
10:11he's back and now you're starting to see rj hamshire has caught hunter lawrence every week
10:18taking more steps toward the front jt i'll tell you what we rj has been a revelation over the past month
10:24and you think about if you've ever watched rj hamshire which i'm sure most of our peacock
10:29audience has out there you think about rj you give him more horsepower and less traction that is
10:34a recipe for disaster from what we've learned over rj the past decade not so much this 450 has really
10:40smoothed him out he doesn't have to ride it quite as hard to get up to speed and he's really adapted
10:45incredibly well here and he's challenging the second place in points here this guy has really turned
10:51on to something on the 450 this summer week yes he's had a couple fourth place finishes in a row
10:56so right now he's running fifth but he is yet to challenge the sexton lawrence tomat group he's
11:03caught hunter now if he can make this pass this would be another big step yeah it'd be a huge step i
11:08believe last weekend was a huge step even though eli wasn't on form at first moto but he was able to
11:13beat him and anytime you can beat these three as you just mentioned is is huge and and um you know rj's
11:20riding with chase exton every week so during the week so he knows that that pace but to be able to
11:25come out here in the race to be able to do that it'd be huge i think hunter lawrence is stuck because
11:29he doesn't have that toe in front of him it's gonna be hard for him to try to move forward i believe rj
11:35will be here this whole moto rj keep working showed a little day city love give it to him oh that's all
11:41rj does well actually they're both kind of from dates yeah yeah these days yeah one move there one born
11:47there but yeah you know rj it doesn't matter where he is on the track he's gonna give you everything
11:51he's got yeah and he looks good inside line right here standing that nice fluff stuff
12:00you know uh sexton riding well today and hampshire our colleague ricky carmichael a supercrosser when
12:06we get to those harder pack tracks we'll talk about the steel chassis sometimes works better do you
12:09think there might be anything to that today because we're definitely seeing an elevation at least for two of
12:14them with those on-screen bikes yeah yeah it is i mean i i'd say even if chase had the same setup as
12:21he had last weekend at millville once he rolled that bike off the truck it was going to be better
12:25here today because of the way the heels were and some of the struggles that he we had so he was going
12:29to be better but if you go back to 2023 you remember the second moto jet uh chase was able to run
12:35down jet on a honda at that point when jet so chase has always had that speed here i think it comes down to
12:42the track this really when it comes to chase how this track is how he rides a motorcycle when he's
12:48in the zone man that guy rides better anyway this track only tames these guys so you got to be very
12:54patient we know chase can't do that he started to pull away from tomac a little bit as he watches battle
13:02between hunter lawrence and rj half shot oh rj goes down yeah it's easy we saw jet lawrence do the same
13:10thing justin cooper went by and i was just going to say that's a good line by rj opening that corner
13:15up now he'll be on the inside and what it does is straightens this whole next section off but rj got
13:21a little rj is got on the gas and that thing spun out as intent begins to stretch his lead let's look at
13:27the hamshire crash again yep on the outside now hunter lawrence misses that inside rut rj gets him see that
13:34back tire just slide out easy to mistake to happen jet lawrence did the same thing but rj was able to
13:40recover pretty quickly in fifth or sixth justin cooper barsha nichols malcolm stewart guillot
13:47valentine guillot right out of the top ten let's look at the last couple of laps
13:52lawrence is pulling away sexton then put it in a 214 heater and guess what so did jet
13:58yeah jet actually almost got it out to about three seconds so chase is able to close and
14:03right now i'm not too worried again jet has his parts of the racetrack i think uh chase is really
14:09strong before that finish line let's see how much he wants to go after this win especially if he can
14:14continue to pull away from eli i think the good thing for chase is that eli is still pushing him
14:19so he has no choice but to continue to fight jet lawrence maybe these guys are closing the gap
14:27right now sexton looking at the overall win with one two scores lawrence did not get even tomac in that
14:35first moto and that was so critical the third place finish means he needs help he needs someone
14:40to finish between himself and sexton to keep the overall win streak alive what we say about rj
14:45he's always going to give you everything he's got he's right back now to battle justin cooper yeah it's
14:50going to be a long end and they're not that far behind hunter lawrence as well so rj continue on this
14:55pace he can make short work justin cooper he might have a chance to get back to the 96.
15:00can you pick a better time for a guy like sexton or a guy like hampshire to have a good run with a
15:07two-week break uh as a rider you always want to go in with any kind of break with a good performance
15:12because you'd like you know live on that two weeks i was the best comes at a great time yeah honestly
15:20even if hampshire doesn't get back to hunter he's still going to take something out of the fact that he
15:24caught him i would imagine right yeah i mean rj anytime he i mean he's become a top five guy now
15:31and so here we know at washugo it's a hard racetrack to to make up time if you lose it so he's able to
15:37get around justin cooper i'm sure all the guys at huskabana be super happy rj will does a little rj-ish
15:43kind of kick but nonetheless man he's been riding really good all year long and only continue to get
15:49better really impressed by what he's doing on that 450. how's it been going for rj as a
15:54450 rookie we asked him to take stock yesterday man it's been awesome uh it's been a lot of fun and
16:03it's uh it's nice to back up your word kind of what i said from the beginning it's just kind of where
16:07where i knew i could be um the good thing is that there's still you know a lot of growth that can
16:13happen like i feel like my bike can get a lot better it's kind of i got a lot faster than what my bike
16:18could handle at first so now it's you know changes settings here and there um just trying to enjoy it man
16:23like i said you know the past couple weeks like a lot of motivation um i feel like i should have
16:28been here you know a while ago but um i built my character that's who i am now and uh yeah look
16:35forward to keep progressing yeah and what's even bigger with that is that we weren't really sure if
16:41rj could be a 450 rider and so not only is he impressed you know all of us i think he solidified
16:47you know uh you know being on this team a legit 450 guy and then even moving forward
16:54having some other opportunities that maybe options to ride 450s on another team if that's
16:59if that happens in the future so there's a lot of things that happened positive for rj but the best
17:03thing he has smoothed out a lot and he looks like he fits on this motorcycle which is a great sign and
17:09huskabarner has had a rough couple years so good to see their guys up and run as good as they have
17:15back to the overall leader here sexton two seconds down on jet lawrence but still sitting on that
17:24overall win which should end the streak lawrence has not been beaten overall this year he's only been
17:31beaten once in his career sexton's gone out of even the moto lead here he's got it under two seconds
17:37no no he's not he definitely closed it in you know jack got stuck behind the lappers and chase
17:43is coming in a good spot as now you're seeing jack able to get around that one lap chase looks good
17:50to me i think if he just continues on this pace still a great moto form and at some point he's going
17:56to start thinking about that overall because at the end of the day he got him that first motor it's a huge
18:01confidence booster you're able to stay with him i think he's starting to believe that he can beat him but
18:06he wants to get that overall and he's get that straight down
18:11and tomac has drifted back he's third but he still would be third overall that is massive
18:16improvement from the last week as we've watched tomac here now tomac it really started got to third
18:25in the first moto at redbud and then the engine let go then he had the bad gate pick came through to get
18:30about seventh i think from a terrible start give you the monster energy athletes running order that's
18:36tomac here in third cooper fifth prado all the way back in 20th has not been a good moto for him but uh
18:45he was third he was a podium guy potentially at redbud if the engine had let go so it was really a lot
18:51about last week with the six nine finishes he said they had changed about a ton after redbud didn't
18:56work much better today yeah much better 100 and this looks like i mean we've seen hunter lawrence
19:04lose that toe i mean hunter was leading this race so yeah it's not surprising here at washugal if you
19:09don't have that um anyone to chase that you end up just being a no man's land but i just like that he
19:16was smiling you know on that on that podium so there'd be a little bit of confidence that goes
19:19out for eli if he finishes off this second moto back on the podium and again these top three they're
19:27battling i mean they're all the same speed so if he's fighting for a podium he's fighting for a win
19:31at this point so definitely an improvement will i was just listening to what you guys were saying
19:39there jason about the improvements on the bike and the difference between redbud and i i asked team
19:43manager rich simmons i said why the changes when you had success at the beginning of the year is
19:49this about the soil change you know what's this about we come back to a hard pack track here and
19:52he said it's about always getting better james i wanted you to sort of give me your opinion on that
19:58if you're out of the championship but you are used to battling up front and that's what you do the
20:04idea of not getting better the idea of not trying so that you're back up there to them is it's just not
20:09seemingly not an option yeah and and that's the hard part for eli because he's so good and we
20:16we expect him to be on the podium so anytime he a sixth place a fifth place people are what's going
20:21on what's going on because we expect so much and then you start questioning whether it's him fitting
20:26his bike and and um you know is he trying well he's trying i mean all these guys are out here trying but
20:32the level of where eli wants to be at and should be at it's up front and i keep i continuously said if
20:40these guys who won championship jorge proudest going through the same thing if you're not able
20:44to compete for a win or a championship it is hard to be out here and as i just said that him battling
20:51for a third place is the same as him battling for a win and so for me i like what i see but it's
20:56this tough position with eli when that bike went out i remember one time uh in supercross you actually
21:02lost a race and you went on twitter and said hey here's what happened i got beat merry christmas
21:07because everybody's like how how could this be you're like i got beat yeah exactly just sometimes
21:13the other guys better you know sometimes but a lot of times it comes down to a lot of like nuance and
21:19yes but but we asked the question when riders are at that that standard the questions come hot and
21:24heavy as soon as that race is over yeah i remember that race i was so mad too but i could say that
21:29because i knew at the end of the day i was better i was still going to come back and win okay i
21:33wouldn't have said it if i'm like no this guy i really feel like he can't beat me out like oh no
21:38the bike's not good or something else you would have gone to something i would have gone to the
21:42excuse i don't want the excuse for sure good to see eli riding better shout out to marshall welton we
21:47mentioned uh he's the uh privateer power award winner from fmf to watch yamaha riders shout out to

22:06teams well just an old-fashioned grinder man this guy races anywhere spent some time in europe
22:12veteran out of michigan and just it's old school man just trying to make a living on dirt bikes
22:19and the tip of the spear is so sharp in this sport i mean welton is so darn good and we go back to
22:26shock here who actually hurt his ankle in that first moto said he was going to give it a go in moto two
22:3115th gonna score some points stack those chips yep talked to shock about the length of the season
22:40yesterday and he's like yeah i'm starting to feel it but during this break we've got i'm hopping on my
22:46two stroke i'm gonna go to some local tracks and just ride for fun so the flame is burning just in
22:52a different direction yeah for the break yeah and you wouldn't think if they had an opportunity to take
22:56some break you would think these guys would want to be off right we start feeling guilty you know yeah
23:02you told me that this morning yeah you just like the body sand breasts rest rest but one day off you
23:07feel like you're losing ground and and now we know how important that mind is
23:11so welton and shock battling right now well another gizmo mods rock river yamaha 74 lorenzo
23:20lucercio right there is shock no on the wildcat racing gas gas well lorenzo's been a lot of the
23:27motos this year right around that 14 to 16 slot 16 right now and i i know the fans are always watching
23:34the battles up front but these guys this group is kind of nine through 15 they probably have better
23:40battles than anybody all week we asked lorenzo about being the owner of his own team and racing as well
23:47yeah honestly it's uh it's a lot to handle uh i've overestimated it uh underestimated it sorry
23:54uh but yeah no it's uh i do whatever i can uh during the week there's a lot of phone calls emails
24:00uh sometimes i gotta go pick up stuff come back and it takes a lot of my training away uh wish i could do
24:08a little more physical training stuff like that during the week but uh my focus is more on the
24:12dirt bike and then just having the team running everything making sure it's all smooth so it's a
24:18it's a big task but nothing's impossible so i'm having fun doing it yeah well the good thing is he
24:23doesn't have to worry about getting fired he looks like he ain't gonna fire himself unless things go that
24:28bad but you know you mentioned these battles and as we look at all the the different countries
24:33um that's racing here truly an international like bill these guys who are battling it in these like
24:40lorenzo and and and welton harry coolest these guys are in shape because they they're battling
24:46oh gosh 35 minutes you know 30 plus two labs and i i can guarantee you jack is riding easier the race
24:53is easier for him out front than it is for these guys because they're always fighting each other seems
24:58like every week like every week they're always hooking up and they know it oh shout out to all
25:02of them oh there's no rest for these guys absolutely and what's on the line for them are those smx points
25:08as we check in with the leader gent lawrence guillot who did not raise supercross is up to
25:1320 30 combined points right now harrison has been good all year indoors and out it's 21st
25:20and harry koulos also didn't raise supercross he's 25th so the last six motos that'll loom after the break
25:27really could tell the story of who gets into the playoffs automatically in the top 20 and who has
25:33to race the lcq and it pays a lot of money so that's huge for those privateer riders back to lawrence
25:40looks like he has shut the sexton charge down but the overall win streak is going to come to an end
25:48barring disaster for sexton yeah you notice jet uh you know a few corners ago he gave a little wave
25:54uh to one of the lap riders which tells me he must have gave that guy a business in one of the corners
26:00uh you know probably not on purpose by him waving but what an answer this guy he ran a 213 a couple
26:07laps ago and that was pretty much sealed the deal for him chases now understand let me just bring this
26:13thing home you got to crawl before we walk at this point a good day for all these guys with a bounce back
26:18moto for jet jet lawrence he's not there baby he's not there yeah just taking a glance and if it ends
26:25this way it will be 22 wins in 24 450 pro motocross races but look the only one he lost last year is
26:35hangtel where he had a huge crash on a downhill jump and was definitely hurting all day it's a little bit
26:41he did fall the first moto it's a little bit closer to what you'd call a straight up you know he was behind
26:46sexton when he went down so this is something i don't know how much of a something but it is
26:53something for sure yeah jet wins his moto chase hang home hangs on to this overall yeah jet really
27:01had a bad race today i mean he's struggling so much he lost an overall i mean that is it's his stats it's
27:08his own greatness that makes you we can really say that like whoa what happened and i'm gonna tell you
27:13this jet welcome to my club son welcome to my club second place and the first question is going to be
27:19what happened what happened la moto got second here's what happened chase sexton conquers washugal
27:27and gets the overall win with one two scores his first win since the series finale last year
27:34and the only rider who's beaten jet in those two overall defeats is chase sexton and eli tomak a great
27:47ride today those are three great champions of smx and respect right there hey we had you and your
27:55old buddy chad reed at a live show for fans last night and you talked about that respect level
28:00those three have it for each other you believe as much as they want to beat each other
28:05it's there no absolutely yeah like i said last night i hated chat but you know hey it's because i was
28:11i wanted to beat the guy i always had respect for him and no matter what all these guys got it
28:15i even volunteered you want to go for a latte you didn't ask for it you did yeah you guys are good now
28:21uh this is eli tomak moto wins uh he is second all time lawrence started to move up he has
28:29passed jeff emig and if he wins one more moto anyways great job yeah yeah great job jay sexton with the
28:38win and uh he prevented jeff from winning two today so hey well the question was answered can he close the
28:46door he was able to close the door yeah yeah say less on some of these stats here as far as you're
28:52concerned starting to get mad at these graphics yeah hey look at this sexton climbing the ranks
28:56four overall wins four overall wins at washougal the record is five by ryan
29:13you
