Transcript
00:00The days of Campbelltown being at the frontier of civilisation are over and
00:05for many it is just a stopover on the highway between Launceston and Hobart.
00:10However, these days it is once again home to the frontier.
00:16The last frontier, if you will.
00:19Hi, I'm Anthony from Last Frontier Vintage Collectibles in Campbelltown.
00:24Come on in.
00:25I mean, I'm a 60s baby and grew up in the 70s and Hot Wheels and, you know,
00:34Evel Knievel and all that sort of stuff, playing with that sort of stuff, scale electrics.
00:39And probably the last 10, 15 years have been a little bit more serious.
00:44And been in antique shops in Melbourne where I rent out a space and sell from there.
00:50Go to auctions, garage sales and that sort of stuff, pick up what you can.
00:54And bought a lot of the stuff over here that I collected over the years and put it into the shop here.
01:00In the months since its opening, the store has become a cornucopia of collectibles,
01:06full of trinkets, old school homewares and retro gadgets befitting its status as a vintage shop.
01:12It also has a cabinet full of glowing green glass.
01:15Well, I've loved uranium for years and years and had a little bit of it myself in my collection.
01:20And when I moved here, I put it all in the cabinet.
01:23I really wanted to set up a cabinet with a black light or UV light, which illuminates the uranium.
01:30And I just had a large purchase actually of about 80 pieces.
01:38So I've got over 100 pieces in that little cabinet at the moment.
01:41Now, for those of you who prefer to take your collectibles without radiation.
01:46Owned by Norman Allison, one of the rats at Tobruk.
01:51Pretty proud piece.
01:53It's even got a letter inside that I've kept in there.
01:56Certainly not from that era, but that's provenance of this item that was owned by one of the rats.
02:04All these vintage goodies.
02:06I had to know.
02:07What was the shopkeeper's favourite?
02:09Gosh, it's hard, mate.
02:10That's a hard question.
02:12It's like your kids, I guess.
02:14Eventually, he settled on this funky looking gadget, known as a Teesmaid.
02:19Yeah, well, I've had this in my collection for probably 10 odd years.
02:23I just love it.
02:25Art Deco, 1950s.
02:27Made in England by a mob called Goblin.
02:31And it needs a bit of work, but nevertheless.
02:34A Teesmaid is one of those things you'd have on your bedside table.
02:38Set the alarm.
02:40And it will make a cup of tea for you in the morning for when you wake up already prepared.
02:45After some even more hardline questions.
02:48So, never seen Wallace and Gromit?
02:50No, no.
02:51I'm sure they're classic.
02:53I'm sure they're classic.
02:55What about the clangers?
02:56Little pink sort of mouse things that live on the map, right?
03:00No, never seen them.
03:01No, I'm a 60s child, so...
03:03What is 60s?
03:05I had just one more question.
03:07Who shops here?
03:09Everyone.
03:10Campbelltown's a stopping place for a lot of people getting off the boat, maybe heading
03:17to Hobart, or Hobart heading to the boat, or Launceston, vice versa, travelling around.
03:22So we've got a really great place here in Campbelltown with some food shops, park, toilets, a couple
03:29of vintage shops here.
03:32And so I get a wide range of people stopping through here, hence why I've got such a wide
03:38range of vintage collectibles in here.
03:41A lot of people just come through just for the experience of, you know, looking at old
03:47things, put a smile on their face, and things like that.
03:50So, you know, I love me, I love me job.
03:53It's not really a job really, because, you know, you're not really working when you're
03:57doing something you love.
03:58I'm so proud of you.
03:59Yeah.
04:00He's done well.
04:01Yeah, he's done well.
04:02He's done well.
04:03Yeah.
04:04He's done well.
04:05No.
04:06Yeah, he's done well.
04:07Yeah.
04:08And he's done well.
04:09Yeah.
04:10I'm done well.
