A few tears before, are they different tears of the peers you had back in May?
00:03
They're a bit less ugly than they were in May.
00:06
You know, I am so proud to be part of this team
00:09
and it's been fantastic the last six weeks to get out right across our electorate
00:15
and to talk to Tasmanians about the issues that are important to them.
00:20
It's the very thing that has driven me forward for 15 years, you know, in public life.
00:26
It is such a privilege to be able to serve the people of Bass
00:30
and to be able to have the opportunity to continue to do that.
00:34
It's the greatest privilege of my life.
00:35
It's impossible to say that everything's perfect at the moment in the state.
00:38
Economic management is also a concern.
00:41
That'll be a focus for you, no doubt, as well?
00:43
Of course it is a focus going forward,
00:45
but I think it is also incumbent to look at how far that we have come.
00:49
How far Tasmania has come in the last 10 years.
00:53
And I go back to when I joined the Liberal Party,
00:56
which was in the wake of the last Labor-Greens government
00:59
and the destruction that was wreaked across northern Tasmania
01:02
and communities like Georgetown, where I live, and across the northeast.
01:06
Some of those communities that have only been recovering, you know,
01:08
in the last few years from that.
01:11
This government, over 10 years, has done so much in Tasmania,
01:17
has brought so much progress to Tasmania,
01:20
and we shouldn't lose sight of that.
01:22
It's easy to lose sight of that.
01:24
Of course there is more to be done.
01:26
There is always more to be done,
01:28
and we must dig in and, with resolve, move forward.
01:31
But we shouldn't lose sight of where we have come from
01:33
and the progress that has been made to date.
01:37
And it's important to build on that
01:38
and to continue to keep that momentum going
01:40
and to keep moving forward.
01:42
Thank you, of course, to the people who voted for me,
01:45
but also thank you to the people who might not have voted for me
01:50
and I give you my undertaking
01:52
that I will do my very best to represent you
01:55
whether you have voted for me or not.
01:58
That has been my promise since the very first time I was ever elected
02:02
and that is my promise to people going forward
02:05
that I will continue to try and do everything I can
02:07
to be a genuine and authentic representative for you
02:10
to put the best interests of Tasmanians first.
