Transcript
00:00Welcome one and all to episode 92 of the Press Box. Today it is just Josh Partridge
00:12and Ryan Bentley here at the helm. Ben's decided he wants more holidays and is slacking off at
00:18home. So we'll get started with his main segment and I'm going to try and be as stretchy as him
00:24today in numerology. Well on the weekend we had the NTFA versus SFL rep games. The two best players
00:39for the teams were Andrew Phillips and Jack Event. Andrew Phillips wears number 34, Jack Event wears
00:46number 2. NTFA's next best player, Jake Hines wears number 37 and Bryce Walsh, the next best player for
00:53the SFL wears number 12. Add those all together we have 85. That's just short of 92. I can hear you
01:00saying that but the SFL kicked seven behinds. If you add the seven behinds from the SFL that is 92.
01:08So that is why episode 92 is important in Tasmanian sport. Wow well that's something. Yep there we go
01:14and we'll follow on the rep team trend. Both the the SFL were too good in both games. They won both
01:21games by 75 points uh over the NTFA. They were just too strong. Um the women's was 15 10 100 to
01:274 125 and the men's was 21 7 133 to 8 10 58. Uh yeah that this that's the simple fact. They were
01:36just too good. In the women's um the NTFA actually started really strong. They kicked the first two
01:41goals of the game but then from there on it was effectively all the SFL and uh in the men's the men
01:48the SFL men kicked 11 unanswered goals and in most games of footy funnily enough that's that's going to
01:52win you the game. Um yeah as we said um in the in the women's it was Hayley Burrard uh was the
01:59northern best player uh Perry King was the southern and Jack Event and Andrew Phillips were the best
02:04players there and I suppose Ryan uh Perry King and Andrew Phillips they're both ex-AFL talent I suppose
02:10and that seems to be the difference between I guess the two competitions they're filled with
02:15ex-AFL and VFL talent aren't they? It is just that little extra step up obviously North Lonnie
02:20um in the NTFA is probably the best team in the state but when you add those couple of guys like
02:26Andrew Phillips, Sam Siggins um those sorts of guys into the team it just makes them that just that
02:31little bit better that obviously the NTFA can't quite keep up with um so yeah it's a shame for the
02:38NTFA because obviously they had a really good win against the NWFL but yeah that AFL talent just a
02:43little bit too much for them. And another one there Josh Green uh as well and he's looking really
02:48fit he he was playing playing up on a wing and pushing into the forward and he he just looked
02:53really good and so they've just got that extra talent and coach Adrian Smith after the game kind
02:57of said that's where I guess the difference is I suppose obviously in previous years in the TSL
03:03it was dominated by the North with the two teams but I suppose now you go into this regional model and
03:08there's five ex-TSL teams to pick from and I guess as we said the North don't really have that AFL
03:14talent I know um Jackson Thurlow was signed on for Lonnie but he hasn't played yet my understanding is
03:19he's been training for a marathon or or has run a marathon so he hasn't been able to put put the
03:24footy on the park as yet but uh no it was um a big win for the SFL and Ryan talk me through I guess
03:29the footy games you attended on the weekend. Yes out at Hillwood for both the men's and women's so
03:34we'll touch on the women's first um obviously Old Scotch they just continued on their merry way
03:3989 to zero not much to say about the result aside from Amy Prokipic kicking six so she marches on
03:46looking at ton watch perhaps still looking a little bit nervous I believe Josh had a little article
03:52coming out later today just to touch on that um but injuries for Old Scotch are a big issue
03:58four injuries during the game and left them without any on the bench uh so looking at the
04:03rep series in a couple weeks it could be a bit interesting um girls like Molly Clark and
04:08Maisie Edwards both went off injured Monique Booth uh had a head knock we don't really know what's
04:14going on with that with the concussion protocol and then a quick shout out to Cassie Walker who
04:18broke her wrist and it was one of the nastiest little injuries I think I've seen in a while the
04:23whole like the whole supportive base near the bench all went as soon as they saw it so hopefully she's
04:29okay and then it set up for a really good men's game between Old Scotch and Hillwood um
04:34it was decided by less uh by one goal exactly Alistair Taylor the match winner but it never got
04:41outside of I think 20 points Hillwood were probably the better team throughout the first um three
04:46quarters but they just let Old Scotch backing in those last five minutes of the quarter um with late
04:52goal and they come with momentum and then Old Scotch took that momentum into the fourth quarter and they
04:56kicked um three straight to start off and got got back to level um Matthew Duggan kicked a pair
05:02of those vice captain for them um and Will Birchmore kicks the one to to level the game and he he was
05:08awesome throughout that second half he was looked like you'd kick a goal every time the ball went
05:12near him but Alistair Taylor he won I think a high contact free kick there at the end and kicked the
05:18match winner with 90 seconds left Jackson Young had a kick on the siren from 60 out so can't really
05:24expect much for him but that fell short and Hillwood come out with the win and they are now
05:28tied on points for fifth spot yeah I was going to say you um you touched on it in your article but
05:33that bottom part of the uh NTFA division one's really interesting with it uh with a lot of teams
05:38I guess fighting out for that uh maybe fourth and fifth final spot isn't it yes yeah so Hillwood and
05:43Bridge North now are locked in on 16 points as well at 15. Old Scotch obviously they've only got the one win
05:49this year if they'd won a second one it would have really brought them in and then that race for
05:52this spot I think would have been right on but I mean you can't really rule any of those teams out
05:58because they're all pretty much around the same they've all won close games they've all lost close
06:02games so it's going to be a matter of who can win those close moments I think right at the end
06:07and another thing that took place last week was the NBL's fixture was released for the upcoming
06:11season uh obviously as part of the Jackjumpers they play a couple of games in Launceston Ryan
06:16taught me through I guess when the Jackjumpers will head to Launceston yes a couple of games in a week
06:21for the Jackjumpers November 1st is the first one against last year's Wooden Spooners Cairns
06:25Taipans uh Taron Armstrong played for them last year I think he'll be playing again from this year
06:31if he's back from his NBA G League stint Taron Armstrong as well I should mention an under six
06:35teammate of mine at the Wynyard Auskick for the Kangaroos that's a brilliant bit of self-insertion
06:41that's a brilliant bit of self-insertion um fair to say he's probably the best thing to come out of
06:45that Auskick program um in basketball nonetheless and then uh a few days later November 6th um the
06:52Jackjumpers were attacking on southeast Melbourne Phoenix it'll be new recruit being in his first
06:56game against his old side southeast so a couple of interesting games at the Silverdome yeah and I
07:01think uh outside of the Silverdome games a really interesting way to start the season for the Jackjumpers
07:06they face um now Milton Doyle uh in for Melbourne United so that's how the whole NBL season will start so
07:12they kind of build that around uh that matchup which is awesome for the Jackjumpers and the NBL as a
07:16whole um moving on I suppose we'll go to what Ben would call the up and coming segments of this
07:23uh show we have Josh's local hero of the week
07:26now I've gone a bit left field for my local hero of the week uh earlier uh last Friday night uh Georgetown
07:39faced Meander Valley in the women's footy competitions uh and Georgetown uh won that game
07:45was the first game they'd won in seven uh and the goal kicker for the Georgetown in that game was
07:51Chantel Clark the captain so she is my local hero of the week she's guided her team to victory down
07:56there at Blue Gum Park and she will be uh obviously honoured by this award so of course uh congratulations
08:02Chantel for both getting your team to win but more importantly earning Josh's local hero of the week
