This summer is set to be a crucial one for Tottenham Hotspur—not only when it comes to signings, but also in laying the foundations for a fresh era under Thomas Frank.
We caught up with James Trembath of LondonWorld to hear his thoughts on where Spurs should concentrate their efforts, which areas of the squad need strengthening, and how Frank can maximise the potential of the team he’s taking over.

00:00Now it's a pivotal summer for Tottenham Hotspur, not just in terms of who they bring in, but
00:09also setting the tone for a new chapter under Thomas Frank. Optimism is high in North London
00:15after the Europa League win, but the need for smart decision-making is just as important
00:20with Frank to stamp his identity on the squad. Tottenham must find the right balance between
00:24reinforcing key areas and preserving the core group that delivered the Europa League crown.
00:33Fortunately for the new head coach, Spurs already possess a strong foundation. From captain
00:39Son Heung-min's leadership to the development of players like Miki van der Ven and Destiny
00:44Doggy, there's a solid spine in place. We caught up with James Trembath of London World to get
00:51his take on where the club's focus should lie this summer, which positions near depth and how
00:57Frank can get the most out of the squad he's inheriting.
01:04Yeah, just on the transfer market, obviously, you know, you're looking at season players and
01:08another season in Europe, maybe, hopefully less injuries for Spurs because of not playing that
01:13high-octane Antipas de Coglu ball. I mean, where do they go in the transfer market? It's so important
01:20to get this right. As you say, likely they're going to back him, but on the other hand,
01:23how do you compete with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City? We're going to spend hundreds
01:28of millions again. I mean, it makes it so hard to sort of find these correct signings who can
01:34take you forward. I mean, Mbwema would be a great deal, but the pull Manchester United have is
01:39just incredible with the likes of them signing Matthias Cunha as well and having an awful season
01:44themselves as well. Yeah, I mean, it's going to be tough and, you know, we don't compete on a
01:49level playing field. We know that Spurs don't have the cash that some of our rivals do, but then we
01:54need to be smart and savvy in the recruitment and that's what it's all about. You know, you've seen
01:57the likes of Brighton do it very, very well, very effectively without breaking the bank.
02:02And two of Spurs' best signings recently have been Kulishevski and Benton Kerr, that we picked up
02:06for less than £20 million apiece. So there are players out there that can make a difference.
02:10A lot of it's going to depend on what we do with the likes of Hummin Son. You know,
02:15he's been linked away perhaps to Saudi Arabia, perhaps to the MLS. Is it time for Son? Now he's
02:20got that trophy and he's got that legend status at Spurs to let him go. Christian Romero is another
02:26one. He's been very vocal about the board recently around, you know, the sort of departure of
02:31Vance Postacoglu. So it's going to depend a lot on outgoings, I think. But, you know, we need to do
02:37everything we can to keep Romero. He's a class act on his day, albeit he doesn't always show it in a
02:41Spurs shirt. And he is a little bit frustrating, but he's a big game player. And, you know,
02:45we saw that in the Europa League final. But, you know, there's deals to be had. I think you look
02:50at maybe Jared Braithwaite from Everton, you know, is there something in that with Richarlison going
02:54back the other way? You know, he'd be a very, very good signing. Every summer Spurs talk about Eze,
03:00and he obviously shares a close link with Spurs with his CAA base agency. And obviously,
03:05that's very, very closely matched to Spurs. It's a tough deal to do, but that would be a
03:08statement signing. You know, Spurs could do with a Madison Kuliszewski sort of foil with both of
03:14those guys injured and unknown in terms of return dates. As you say, Buomo would be a very, very good
03:19deal. And, you know, within Spurs' price bracket, I appreciate his, you know, Manchester United and the
03:24low there. But Spurs can offer him Champions League football and the link now with returning and rejoining
03:29Thomas Frank. So, yeah, I think there's definitely deals to be had. We need to be smart. We need
03:34to be savvy. I know we looked at, we're linked with Leroy Sané, for example, on the free transfer
03:38market. He's gone to Turkey now. But we do need some winners in that team now. We need some,
03:45you know, I say winners, we are winners now, obviously, but we need some more experienced
03:49heads in there who've got a little bit more Champions League now about them and can just help us
03:53through in those tough periods. So hopefully we're in for a really exciting summer. And let's just hope
03:58Daniel Levy gets his chequebook out and spends and backs Thomas Frank in the market for Achilles
04:03Heel. Thomas Frank's not got any European experience, so we're going to need some leaders in there
04:07as well to come in and, you know, really bolster the squad. But if we are to compete on multiple
04:11fronts, we're going to need to dip into the transfer market and we're going to need to strengthen
04:15in certain areas and they need to be ready-made players. You know, signing the likes of Bergval and
04:20Archie Gray is fantastic for the future. And, you know, you look at the growth in both of them,
04:24despite the challenges that we face this year, Bergval's turning into a star already and one
04:29of the first names on the team sheet, but we do need some experience in certain positions. And
04:34obviously it'd be interesting now to see whether Thomas Frank goes back to Brentford and tries to
04:38sign the likes of Mbwemo would be a, you know, fantastic signing if we could hijack that deal from
04:42Manchester United.
