00:00Following a season of mixed fortunes, Tottenham Hotspur now look to Thomas Frank to steer the club towards stability and renewed success.
00:10While Spurs struggled domestically, barely avoiding the relegation battle, their UEFA Europa League triumph under Ange Postacoglu was a historic highlight that reignited hope and ambition amongst supporters.
00:24Frank's appointment marks a new chapter focused on rebuilding with greater consistency.
00:31The upcoming summer transfer window will be vital for targeted signings that align with his tactical approach, strengthening the squad's weak points and adding depth where it's most needed.
00:43With Champions League football secured back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, expectations are high that Tottenham can harness this momentum for a more balanced and competitive campaign.
00:56We spoke to James Trenbath of London World to reflect on Spurs' turbulent season, evaluate Frank's early influence and explore the optimism growing around the club's future direction.
01:08James, Ange Postacoglu blew out. Thomas Frankin, obviously a Brentford manager who's done so well on such a shoestring budget.
01:16There's been calls that they could face relegation a number of times, especially after losing the likes of Ivan Toney.
01:23He's reinvented strike forces with the likes of Mbwemo and Vissa.
01:27He's become a manager that has really, really got the best out of unknown players.
01:32I mean, on the surface, I think he really, really fits Spurs' bill and where they're going to go from now on.
01:38He looks like the only way he's up for Spurs. He's made the move across London.
01:42What are your thoughts on Thomas Frank when he was sort of linked?
01:46You know, we've spoke before and maybe he wasn't that appealing, but the credit he's done with the likes of Brentford has been fantastic to get them up and keep them a sustainable outfit in the top line.
01:58Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I'm thrilled with the appointment.
02:01I think actually they're probably the most excited I've been since Monsieur Pochettino was appointed as Spurs manager a good while ago now.
02:07I think he totally fits the bill.
02:10You know, I mean, sort of head over heart, I think it was the right decision to let Ange go.
02:15You know, we've obviously got the trophy, as we've spoken about, but the caveat around the league form, the performances, not just this season, but at the back end of last season as well.
02:24You know, we were averaging, conceding nearly two goals a game.
02:27The football had sort of gone out the window.
02:28You know, we'd lost the style.
02:30We weren't adaptable like we were in Europe, ironically.
02:33I think if we'd have just adapted a little bit more to the players that we had and to the opposition, we could, you know, well have done a little bit better.
02:40And Ange might well still be in a job.
02:42So, you know, I do think, you know, the time was right to make the change.
02:46If we'd have gone into the start of the season with Ange, we could have been in another Ten Hag situation.
02:52And, you know, imagine you sort of come out in the opening day against a promoted team and you get beaten by Sunderland or Burnley or Leeds and immediately the pressure's on Ange again.
03:02And it would just become very, very toxic very, very quickly had we not got a fast start.
03:06So, you know, I think it was right just to make the change.
03:09Very difficult, obviously, from the board and Daniel Levy this time around.
03:12And I'm sure that was a really, really tough decision to make.
03:15But Thomas Frank, you know, he ticks all the boxes for me.
03:18He's, you know, he's progressive, done a fantastic job with Brentford on a model very similar to Spurs, working within a real tight structure.
03:26You know, he's brought on a lot of young players.
03:28He's obviously developed the likes of Umbuemo, David Raya, Rolly Watkins.
03:32You know, there's been a lot of stars have sort of been made at Brentford, left Brentford, and he's continually kept them in the division and really punching above the weight.
03:41And they've had some terrific results against the top six as well.
03:43So, you know, I think he ticks the boxes in terms of character, persona.
03:49I said to somebody, a contact of mine, he's almost, he's not Jurgen Klopp, but he's got a touch of the Klopp in the way that he sort of is perceived, I feel.
03:57And I think, but he's brought, you know, three or four people with him that are tried and trusted and obviously know his methods.
04:02And, you know, that's a really, really good sign, in my opinion, that we're ready to back him and he's got what he wants.
04:08And obviously, we've paid a huge release clause for him, around about 10 million.
04:11So, you know, we've certainly stumped up the money.
04:13So that hopefully shows, you know, just how highly regarded he is among Spurs.
04:18And, you know, I think the fact that he was the only target, again, tells you everything that we need to know there.
04:22So, yeah, really excited.
04:23He's worked within the model and the structure.
04:25Gets on very well with Johan Langer, who's the director of football.
04:28And I think the big thing is, as well, he's just adaptable.
04:32You know, he does play good football.
04:34There's been a little bit of negativity around the football that he's played, but he adapts depending on the situation of the opposition.
04:39And I think that's something that we haven't done under Ange Postakoglu, and that's been very, very costly.
