During a press conference on Monday, NYC Mayor Eric Adams spoke about former Governor and NYC mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo.
Transcript
00:00Um, so are you saying, though, that Cuomo co-opted Walden because I think Walden initially rolled this out?
00:08So you're saying that he, what, assisted his arm? Like, what happened?
00:13Here, I'm going to give you a prediction.
00:15Watch Walden in the next couple of weeks, and you're going to see how this whole plan...
00:22This was all on Cuomo's concoction.
00:25Trust me when I tell you.
00:26He said, you go out first, you raise it so it can seem independent, and then I'll come later and say, oh, I support that this is a good idea.
00:36That's just how he does.
00:38Go do research on what he has done and all of the task force and panels that he has created over time.
00:46This is a typical Andrew Cuomo playbook.
00:50You send someone out, make the announcement independently, and then you come later and seem like you're the fairest person.
00:58If you're the fairest person, think about what he did.
01:02He knew that, I already made it clear, I was not going to be in the Democratic primary.
01:08I was going to be on the independent line.
01:10He knew that Madani was going to be on the Rokin's family line.
01:14So why did he all of a sudden say, now I'm going to join the independent petition?
01:21He knew the scenario.
01:22His desire was to, I'm going to force Eric out of the race.
01:28I'm the city mayor.
01:29And you would say to yourself, well, why would he do that?
01:31Look at his record.
01:32He did the same thing to Karl McCall.
01:34When Karl McCall wanted to be the first black governor, he got into the race on the liberal line, and Karl McCall lost.
01:40He did the same thing to Charlie King.
01:42Charlie King raised $5 million to become the first African-American AG.
01:47He got in the race and forced Charlie King out.
01:50He did the same thing to Governor Patterson.
01:53He wrote behind the scenes and sabotaged Governor Patterson's re-election campaign, and Governor Patterson left.
01:59He did the same thing to Keith Wright.
02:01When he went to be the first African-American to be the speaker, he sabotaged his race.
02:06Andrew has a thing for African-American leaders, and he believes that he could just come in and bully them out.
02:13I keep telling people, I'm from Brownsville.
02:15Never run.
02:16Never will.
02:17I'm going to win this race.
02:18Mayor, you say you're...
02:22You followed me, right?
02:22Okay.
02:23Didn't want to disrespect.
02:24Props for keeping the suit on, sir.
02:25Oh, good.
02:25See, I'm not doing it.
02:26I am burning up.
02:27I want one of those shotguns t-shirts.
02:29So you say you're not backing off.
02:31Sliwa says he's not backing off.
02:32Cuomo, for now, seems to be doing some different things.
02:35Are you just, at the end of the day, worried you guys are just going to cancel each other out, and Mr. Mondani's going to win?
02:39He should do the right thing for New York.
02:43He should...
02:43It's not about him.
02:45He has lived a life where he felt it was always about him.
02:49It's not about him.
02:51It was not about him when he stepped down while being governor instead of standing up and facing the truth.
02:57It was not about him when he succumbed to passing bail reform that made our streets more dangerous,
03:04passing cannabis laws that opened illegal cannabis shops throughout the city that I had to fix.
03:09It wasn't about him when 15,000 family members and loved ones died in nursing homes because he didn't do the right thing.
03:18It wasn't about him when he removed the Advantage programs, which was housing subsidies, and we saw homelessness spikes up.
03:25It wasn't about him when he closed psychiatric beds.
03:29And now we see people on our street with severe psychiatric issues because the beds were closed.
03:35I can go through the list.
03:36This is a very important moment for New Yorkers.
03:41This has been a person in government who always thought it was about him and not about the people he was serving.
03:49He cannot do what he has done in the past.
03:52He has come up against a resilient, committed mayor that loves this city.
03:57And I'm going to get my message out.
03:58My message has not been properly reported, how I turned around this city, and I'm going to have an opportunity to do what he did for $25 million.
04:07I'm going to have an opportunity to campaign.
04:08I'm going to speak to New Yorkers and people going to see what I did about maternal morbidity and black and brown parents, what I did about public safety.
04:16Last six months has been the lowest number of shootings and homicides in the history of this city.
04:21We broke records on jobs, what we've done with NYCHA and foster care of children and dyslexia screening and just really improving the quality of life in the city.
04:30I'm going to get out now, and I can finally campaign and tell people, direct-to-consumer communication, this is what your mayor has done.
04:38In spite of what I had to go through, because all New Yorkers are going through something.
04:42You know, everyone is going through something.
04:44And I'm going to show when people talk about affordability, I put $30 billion back into the pockets of New Yorkers.
04:50Pairing off medical debt, paying for the college tuition for foster care, children, lowering the cost of child care, reducing no taxes for low-income New Yorkers, no income taxes for low-income New Yorkers.
05:03I'm not talking about affordability.
05:05I'm using my role as mayor to deliver for broken-class people.
05:11And people don't even know that.
05:12I've got to now communicate that.
05:13They heard Cuomo's message.
05:15They heard it.
05:15He spent $25 million.
05:17He did weekend campaigning.
05:20He lost by double digits.
05:2213 points.
05:23He lost by 13 points.
05:25The same polls that said he was up by 10 points.
05:27And we're now going to trust that same system to allow him to run?
05:32Nah, that doesn't make any sense.
05:33Come on.
05:34New Yorkers are not that dumb.
05:36I keep telling people New Yorkers have five fingers.
05:38They love the middle one the most.
05:39Listen, I got to bounce.
05:50They love the middle one the most.
05:51They love the middle one the most.
05:51They love the middle one the most.
05:52They love the middle one the most.
05:52They love the middle one the most.
05:53They love the middle one the most.
05:53They love the middle one the most.
05:54They love the middle one the most.
05:55They love the middle one the most.
05:56They love the middle one the most.
05:57They love the middle one the most.
05:58They love the middle one the most.
05:59They love the middle one the most.
06:00They love the middle one the most.
06:01They love the middle one the most.
06:02They love the middle one the most.
06:03They love the middle one the most.
06:04They love the middle one the most.
