00:00Well, we're going to have a steamy day today with a mix of clouds and sun, but storms developed this evening into tonight,
00:04all clearing out still for the weekend, which looks beautiful, but an unsettled pattern returns next week.
00:20So, we've got a few things going on. Of course, this cool front we're watching that'll produce storms today.
00:24We're in the warm sector of it through the day today, but it's also going to pull in some wildfire smoke.
00:29You can see this gray haze here in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
00:33That air is going to be moving into northern Minnesota.
00:35We have an air quality alert for the northwestern part of the state, north central and northwestern Minnesota,
00:40where it could get into the hazardous air quality range, red or purple, unhealthy to hazardous.
00:46Our friends in Winnipeg are already seeing it this morning here.
00:49Purple sensors all across southern Manitoba. That is hazardous air.
00:53You don't want to be in that at all, whether you're healthy or have underlying conditions or not.
00:57We're starting to see the sensors in northwestern Minnesota diminish, too.
00:59So, in the wake of that cool front, unfortunately, it is going to bring some of that smoke to the surface here.
01:04You can see by the overnight hours tonight, blanketing much of northern Minnesota.
01:08But even here in southern Minnesota, we'll at least see elevated smoke.
01:11So, we might have hazy skies tomorrow.
01:13We'll see if that smoke gets to the surface.
01:15But Minnesota Pollution Control Agency may be expanding or extending that air quality alert potentially over the weekend.
01:22So, we've got a nice break from the smoke for a little while anyway.
01:25But highs today into the 80s.
01:27It's going to be steamy.
01:28Doom points in the 60s to near 70 degrees.
01:30Storms will develop this afternoon near the front, but then kind of fizzle out.
01:34More storms may be developing overnight closer to the front.
01:37So, don't look for a whole lot of activity tonight.
01:40Maybe some late evening and overnight showers and thunderstorms.
01:43Severe risk is pretty low, though.
01:45Marginal risk.
01:46This is basically drawn near where the front will be this afternoon.
01:50Level 1 out of 5 right at the Twin Cities and points north and west.
01:54But probably pretty isolated severe activity.
01:57Main threats would be some high wind gusts and large hail.
02:00But muggy dew points today will have that.
02:0260s to near 70 degree dew points.
02:04But behind it, that front really bringing in the drier air quickly tomorrow.
02:07So, by tomorrow afternoon, dew points in the much more comfortable 50s.
02:10And then it starts to get a little sticky again late Sunday into especially Monday.
02:14So, enjoy the break from the humidity.
02:15But we should see these morning clouds diminish.
02:18Some hazy sun this afternoon.
02:20And then tomorrow, clouds clear out quickly for the afternoon.
02:22We're looking at sunshine.
02:24That drop in humidity.
02:25Upper 70s to around 80 for a high Saturday afternoon.
02:27So, just about perfect.
02:29If we can keep the smoke out of the sky, then it would be perfect.
02:31But that might make it a little hazy.
02:33Highs mostly in the 70s.
02:35Twin Cities probably near 80.
02:36There will be some pockets of 80 degree readings.
02:38But Sunday, well into the 80s for most of the states.
02:41We start to heat it up.
02:42Lots of sun.
02:43Monday looks sunny too.
02:44In fact, a warm start to the week.
02:46Upper 80s to near 90 degrees here in southern Minnesota for highs.
02:50So, it might be pretty warm to start the week.
02:52But that's not going to last.
02:54We have an unsettled pattern developing.
02:55The jet stream is going to be flying high just to our north over the weekend.
02:59That keeps most storm systems up there as well.
03:01But as we head into Tuesday and for the middle of the next week,
03:05we're going to see that jet stream drop south right over Minnesota.
03:08And that brings every little disturbance from the west.
03:11And there are plenty of them.
03:13Now, not all of these are going to affect us.
03:14But you can see these little spins.
03:15These are all upper level lows.
03:17Cool air aloft generating instability and spin.
03:20Each one of those potentially produces some weather as it moves over the continent.
03:24So, we're going to have probably at least a couple disturbances move through
03:27in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
03:29The first one will develop showers and storms Tuesday morning for northern Minnesota.
03:32Later in the day for us in the southern part of the state.
03:34And then kind of a couple different waves coming in behind that for Wednesday.
03:39Maybe even into Thursday too.
03:40So, you can see that morning activity Tuesday.
03:42And then afternoon, evening, more widespread showers and storms.
03:45That front will move through.
03:47And then another round potentially Wednesday into Thursday.
03:49So, unsettled means a lot more clouds around Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday too.
03:53And that's going to keep the temperatures cooler.
03:55We're looking at actually below normal temperatures Wednesday, Thursday of next week.
03:5985 though today, steamy.
04:01Again, evening storms.
04:03Looks like probably pretty late in the evening.
04:05Now, with the humid air, one or two isolated storms is possible during the day.
04:09But I think really in the Twin Cities, we'll be looking at the chances coming in after dark.
04:13So, after that 8, 9 p.m. time frame.
04:16But two points drop tomorrow.
04:18Sunshine for the afternoon.
04:19Beautiful Saturday and Sunday.
04:21Just warmer.
04:22Definitely Sunday, Monday.
04:23And Tuesday will start pretty warm too.
04:25Mid to upper 80s, more humid.
04:26But we'll start to see those afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
04:28And then kind of on and off chances Wednesday into Thursday of next week.
04:32But it looks as though we're going to push that out in time for next weekend too.
04:35So, might luck out here with two weekends in a row of timing out the showers and storms away.
