00:00The first six were revealed when it came to Olympic hockey rosters on the
00:13men's and women's side. We will be focusing on the men's side for this one.
00:17For Canada, Reinhardt was the only real surprise for me. He was probably making
00:22the team, but first six seemed a little rich for my blood. Then he goes off and
00:27scores four in the deciding game of the Stanley Cup final. So I can't really complain about it too
00:34much. And even that one, you're splitting hairs at that point, right? This is a guy who is definitely
00:39going to be on the roster. It was just a matter of, does he need to be one of the first six
00:44on the roster? That one kind of caught me a little bit, but there's one other thing that has my
00:50attention. Um, it feels like I'm harping on it a little bit, but Conor Bedard not being on the
00:58Four Nations roster and now not even getting a sniff of a top six for this is a real failing
01:05of the Blackhawks organization. Like I think if you were to say when he gets drafted, uh, by the way,
01:10this kid, uh, we're going to do a best on best tournament a couple of years in his career. This
01:13kid's not going to get a sniff of the roster. And then while he has had more time to progress,
01:17uh, no one's even talking about him for an Olympic roster spot. And quite frankly,
01:22some of his young peers are passing him by when it comes to the potential of, um, playing on those
01:28teams. So do with that what you will. Um, and I think you, you, your self at that point would say
01:36that's insane. There's no way that is happening, but that's where they are with the Blackhawks
01:40right now. This kid is a special talent. He gets the, uh, exceptional status for the
01:47WHL and then proves it with just an amazing year after amazing year in Regina. And he comes to the
01:54Blackhawks and it has been stunted for a couple of years now and nothing has worked to this point.
02:01They have not given him anything resembling what you would need to properly build up a player of
02:07his caliber. You are wasting years of his entry-level contract and now just years of his career and
02:15potential opportunities to, for him to grow. Excuse me. I didn't mind him not going to the
02:21Worlds this year because he does. Like there's, there is a part of this that is on him as well.
02:25He needs to be bigger and stronger and there is only so much of that he can control, but not going
02:30to the Worlds I think does kind of help that out for him a little bit. Like just, just go do a weight
02:35plan and let's, let's try to figure this thing out. Um, but it's not all on him. Most of it is not
02:41on him. This has been a horrendously built organization for a couple of years now. And I,
02:46I think a few panic moves are coming from the Blackhawks to try to help this kid out and try
02:52to take advantage and get some semblance back of what you thought his career was going to be. Um,
02:59another thing I was thinking about with the Olympics, we talk about, oh, this guy just missed. Oh,
03:04whatever. I have a solution. Let's do three on three at the Olympics. Um, they did it in basketball,
03:10not featuring NBA players, but they did it. Um, you have three on three overtime in the NHL in the
03:15regular season anyway, so it's not out of the realm of the sport and you give more players
03:21high level exposure, high pressure situations, and a chance to make a few more stars out of it while
03:27showing a unique side of the sport. Now, I don't think you do three on three on the regular Olympic
03:32sized ice, but like you just divide the ice up in a unique way and that just show some creativity
03:38with it. I think that you can have a lot of fun with this sort of thing. And like other sports,
03:42you get medals for every different variation of swimming that there is and every different
03:48distance of running that there is. Let's get a couple more on the Olympic side. Does Connor
03:52McDavid do the double? Probably not, but maybe this is the one where you do bring in a Celebrini
03:58and a Bedard and let your kids kind of do that and have it be a developmental thing. Uh, get them
04:03that exposure. They're around the main, um, the main roster team anyway. If someone gets hurt,
04:08use it as kind of a taxi squad. I think it would be a very fun thing. I think it would be
04:12a very entertaining element at the Olympics as well. So there would be modified rules. It would be a
04:20little goofy, but I think you could actually make this pretty entertaining. And I think you could have
04:26quite a bit of fun with it, uh, if we did three on three at the Olympics in hockey. So a couple
04:33Olympic hockey thoughts for you as we head into the off season, but certainly more hockey coverage
04:38to come as we get ready for the draft coming up this weekend. For all things Couch Potato Diary,
