00:00so on one hand you have the Thunder who were um viewed as phenomenal champions on the other hand
00:16you had an Indiana Pacers team who were very worthy contenders but now while we are talking
00:24about a potential dynasty on one hand we are talking about where do they go from here on the
00:29other because of the heartbreak for the Pacers we'll get a little bit more into the big picture
00:33of it all with the Pacers here in just a little bit but uh first just for the game like it's
00:39heartbreaking and I mean like full disclosure on my part I was not able to to watch the start of
00:45the game live I was off doing uh some play-by-play baseball shout out Calgary Cannons but uh down in
00:49and the um you go on social media and the the one spoiler I got was the Halliburton thing and so
00:59like I knew it was coming and watching it live and you could just or watching it after and
01:03it's still just like stabbed at your heart with the reaction and just the no no no and he's pounding
01:12on the ground and just looking so heartbroken because he knows he knows exactly what happened
01:17to him in that moment and we all watch the video and basketball fans uh sports fans I would say are
01:24now trained to look down at that one spot and you see the pop and you see the ruffle and you know
01:30we're not going to see Tyrese Halliburton for a really really long time um there are so many
01:37different levels to this one the first is just absolute heartbreak for the guy who gets um falls
01:44in the draft for one gets taken by Sacramento it never really fits they sell low on him Sacramento
01:51turns into a playoff team and they have this grand season even though it only lasts one round
01:56um and he is just he is in Indiana and he's like oh yeah and Halliburton's very good is basically the
02:02conversation around him and then they turn into a conference finalist a year ago it's okay well
02:08I mean yeah but so was Atlanta right like we get those sometimes Portland had their run you know
02:14like we just have we have those that's nice type of uh type of runs for some teams and so I think a
02:21lot of people thought of that for Indiana and then another star making season into a superstar making
02:26postseason for Tyrese Halliburton and he is on McAfee and he's in the WWE video game in a couple of days
02:35and he's in all these different spots and now he's out for a long time and we had the discussion here
02:44in the pregame show for game seven about whether or not it was right for the Pacers to have played
02:50Halliburton in the way that they did and it is it is so difficult because it is the NBA finals
02:56and it was an opportunity for them to force a game seven and win a championship but I just
03:03I this was the thing that we cautioned against is that okay that's fine but if what everyone is
03:12worried about happening happens in game seven or in game six then it's a year like it is a this isn't
03:19just a oh and he's hurt and oh that sucks but he'll be back next season he's not back next season
03:23he is he is out until like it is going to be 15 months until we see that human being playing
03:30basketball again and then it might be like 30 months until we get that guy playing at the level
03:36that he was playing at right now like it is just an absolute robbery of some prime years for Tyrese
03:43Halliburton and I am sure everyone will tell you that it was worth it and I'm not even here to tell
03:48you that it wasn't or that it is negligence on the Pacers part but it just felt like
03:53there were some ways they could have got him even maybe a little bit more rat like I don't
04:00I don't think he should have played in the back part of game five game six it was dicey that he was
04:05playing at that level and then in game seven the tough part about it one of the many tough parts
04:11about it is he was on fire to start this game and you kind of got a sense that this was going to be
04:16a bit of an all-timer right like that this was going to be a matchup of um like you have this
04:23otherworldly team on the defensive side and to Deeds's point in the chat hi Deeds um to Deeds's
04:29point in the chat like some guys who aren't even at the prime of their career yet and just getting
04:34better but still this elite level defensive team and the MVP in Shea Gilgis Alexander but then you have
04:41Halliburton who are he had nine points in that game and he exited seven minutes in that's how good
04:47he was to start this one and he was brilliant all postseason and it goes away now um and it just it
04:54all sucks it all really really sucks and I don't know if saving him for a half here and a game there
05:01saves this from happening but it is it's something that should be looked at because this is some young
05:08players blowing out Achilles at times when that was supposed to be an old man thing um so very very
05:14very disappointing on the Indiana side credit to them for how they responded after the injury as they
05:19took the lead into halftime but then it kind of fell apart from there they they adjusted and McConnell
05:26was fun he was really good in this game I will say I I kind of made the case the other day that man
05:33it would just be fun to see McConnell just be in charge of a bad basketball team and just see what he
05:37could really do because it just feels like so many times he comes in off the bench he provides a spark
05:41and then he goes away and the other team's fans are happy that he went away and so it's okay this
05:47guy now has his opportunity to get it going and he had a phenomenal third quarter but I did see
05:52why I don't think he can be the replacement next year for Halliburton because he is out there and he's
05:59doing a lot of great and like very little of this is meant to be a criticism of him but one of the
06:06great things about Halliburton is how he can spread everything around and he is much more of just a
06:12quarterback at the top okay you know you get that one you get that now it's my turn three ball I'm on
06:16fire let's do another one he has a very good sense of where the ball needs to go and is a very good
06:21puppet master out there McConnell is like someone stuck down the speed burst controller or speed burst
06:28button on your controller on NBA 2k and he's ripping around all over the place but the problem is one of
06:34the cool things or good things about Indiana and their offense was a lot of movement and being able
06:40to take advantage of quite a bit of spacing and everything like that and with McConnell
06:44a lot of that stopped and it stopped in different ways I'm not even again I'm not even saying that
06:51it's bad but it is just he would dribble around and he would do that thing where he would get into
06:54the paint and oh well everyone's taller than me so I'm just gonna dribble it out and I'm gonna start
06:58come around and then I'm gonna jump shot and neat bunch of balls went in and that is fantastic and he
07:03played really really well I cannot stress this part enough he played really well but Siakam got
07:08out of the flow of the offense Turner got out of the flow of the offense Nembhard got out of the
07:11flow of the offense like you want to do all of this crazy driving stuff and that's fine but then
07:17we're kicking it if we're gonna kick it to Siakam well you've just drawn everyone into the paint and
07:21while Siakam has improved as a distance shooter his game is finding and opening driving and just
07:28bloop bloop bloop and putting the puck putting the sorry putting the puck putting the ball in the rim
07:32and he can't do that when everyone has just collapsed on McConnell and now there's no room
07:40for him to to make any moves so while McConnell filled in admirably I do think that the style
07:45with which he did that took a few of the guys kind of out of the flow of the game and really was
07:51it was an adjustment and it was one they probably needed to make but it was not one that allowed
07:59everyone else to get into it and I think it was just for a full what would that be 41 minutes
08:04uh of basketball I just think that it was it was too much of a change from what makes Indiana
08:11successful because like Siakam had a good start to the game and then he was very quiet in the second
08:16half and a lot of that is again the defense for OKC can now shift a lot of the attention to him as well
08:21but I do think the stylings of uh TJ McConnell kind of got in the way of a few things that the
08:27Pacers were wanting and trying and kind of needing to do in that one obviously a lot changes around
08:33here at Couch Potato Diary so uh keep up with it all on social media I am at PrimetimeKline on Twitter
08:40Instagram TikTok threads and Blue Sky uh so get all the updates of what's going on in Couch Potato
08:45Diaryland uh over on my social medias another issue for the Indiana Pacers is that the three
08:51ball did dry up a little bit in this final game that was rocking and rolling for them in the first
08:58half like you had again Halliburton making a couple of shots Mantharin made some Siakam hits from
09:03distance Turner hits from distance Nembhardt is scoring like the the three-point shot was going for
09:07them and while there are times in the NBA it just comes down to who made more three-pointers and that
09:14that's the way it goes I don't think that is what happened here although they did kind of
09:18flip um and the Pacers it just there was a lid over the rim and the Thunder started making their
09:25shots like that is a part of it I don't think it is the bigger thing but I do think that Indiana was
09:30able to stay in that game a little bit more and just kind of quiet that crowd down as much as they
09:34could enough to stay in it in the first half but those shots stopped falling in the second half and
09:42the the Thunder really started to make their buckets and make from distance and then you have
09:47the the Pacers who are missing well now okay okay Siakam get out in transition and they're very good
09:52in those sorts of situations and now you're pressing it a little bit and now it's a turnover
09:56and they're the best in the world at taking advantage of those situations so it all just kind
10:01of snowballed up on on the Pacers but from an overall season standpoint just an incredible year
10:07for them to be able to make their way to the finals and to within a game of winning a championship
10:15no one thought of that for this roster at the beginning of the year no one thought that of
10:19this roster at the beginning of the playoffs or the beginning of the second round few thought it
10:24possible at the beginning of the NBA championship but uh that they were able to come out and put on a
10:28great performance and I do have to say Rick Carlisle just a brilliant job all season long of putting
10:35this team together and managing all the different parts and kind of maximizing everyone and getting
10:40that commitment on the defensive side to turn things around we are going to go into a little bit more
10:44of what's next for the Pacers but I do also want to mention we talk about players on Indy leveling up
10:50Nembhard absolutely leveled up in this series the defense that he had on SGA was so much fun to watch
10:57and to to see the bag start to grow on the offensive side a promising young Canadian basketball player
11:05um and one to to get excited about in the uh the months and years ahead for him so there's a lot to
11:13be excited about for the Indiana Pacers but there is obvious heartbreak and now a lot of questions about
11:18what comes next for them
