00:00The WWE is on the road to Knight of Champions, which means the King and Queen of the Ring,
00:09which also means evolution, which also means that SummerSlam's right around the corner.
00:14Hey, did you know their Saturday night's main event? Boy, wasn't Worlds Collide and Money in
00:17the Bank awesome? It never stops in the WWE, and unfortunately, that sometimes leads to plans
00:25going awry. And that is the big story, I think, coming out of Raw, is the injury to Liv Morgan.
00:32It's a freak accident. Like, it's Kairi Sane going for just a dragon screw, and Liv Morgan kind of
00:37taking a, you've all seen it by now, and dislocates her shoulder. It sucks, right? Like, it is such a
00:45freak accident, it is at the worst time. And so, like, you hope that she is okay, first and foremost,
00:51right? Like, you hope that, like, mentally she's doing all right, physically she's doing okay,
00:54all those different things. You just hope all of that is, is fine. Um, career-wise,
01:00the timing couldn't be worse. She is on an incredible roll, and it really felt like she
01:04had found her character in the last, like, 18 months. And it just, like, every week, she's
01:09getting better, and better, and more comfortable, and working through all of that. So to have this
01:13happen now is really unfortunate. And she is involved in so much right now. Um, setting up
01:21something with EO Sky on Monday. There is the obvious tension with the Judgment Day storyline,
01:26and Roxy, and then potentially Raquel getting thrown in as well, by the way, has a match coming
01:32up with one of the most famous women's wrestlers of all time in Nikki Bella at Evolution. So,
01:39she had a couple of things on the dance card here. And now all of that kind of goes away.
01:45So, it's gonna be really interesting to see how the WWE kind of pivots off of this. And I'm going
01:50to be very fascinated to see how the WWE handles this situation. I have a couple of ideas on that.
01:57Going to discuss them in a separate video a little bit later. And for podcast listeners,
02:02it's gonna be in a different spot. Um, we are introducing this week, I'm promising,
02:06I said this a couple of weeks ago, but promising this week, uh, introducing a new podcast. It is
02:11going to be Living Room Lariats. Uh, it's going to be an accumulation of all the wrestling podcasts,
02:17uh, that we do here on Couch Potato, like all the wrestling content in one spot, uh, weekly.
02:21And then there's going to be some original stuff on that as well. If you're watching on YouTube
02:25and Dailymotion, those clips are still going to be here. But if you want all the wrestling in one
02:29place, because I know not all wrestling fans are sports fans, so want to do this for the wrestling
02:33folks out there. Um, check out, uh, Living Room Lariats. And again, that will be coming out,
02:38um, it's not up yet, so don't go rushing to subscribe or anything. Keep it locked on my
02:42social medias for all of that. But, uh, there's going to be some more wrestling content coming
02:46from me. Um, elsewhere on Monday Night Raw, Gunther is next, as Goldberg calls out Gunther for
02:54Saturday night's main event. They set this up a while ago, even going so far back as the Calgary
02:59show, um, at the end of last summer, where, uh, Gunther tells Bret Hart that his favorite
03:06wrestler was Goldberg. Which, by the way, elite promo. Oh, that was so funny. I loved every
03:11bit of that. Um, thought it was amazing. So, um, yeah, that was fun. It has been a build
03:16up to this point, so there's at least a bit of a story here. I'm a huge Goldberg mark,
03:21so you're not going to be saying, oh, how does this guy deserve a championship opportunity?
03:24He's Goldberg, man. I don't know. Deal with it. Is this match going to be awesome? It
03:30is not. Um, I, I don't think that this match will end up onto the greatest hits of Gunther
03:35any time. So, it has a better opportunity of ending up on Botchamania, to be perfectly
03:38honest with you. But, I, I, I still, it's Goldberg. I'm fun, I'm happy to see the whole production
03:45of all of it. Hear the music again. Hear him scream, you're next, at, uh, at people. Love
03:51it. Absolutely love it. And so, I, I'm excited. Was it concerning to see the 58-year-old man
03:56who was coming back for a world title match limp to the ring on Monday? It was. Yes, it
04:01was. Yep. A hundred percent. Um, but, um, I'm still going to watch. And I'm still going
04:05to love Goldberg. And I'm, uh, if the match sucks, I will immediately then put on the best
04:10of Goldberg from somewhere. And just watch him, watch him, uh, just spear the hell out of
04:14people for a while. And throw him on the video games. And all of that. So, I'll, we'll be
04:18fine. We'll get through this one together, shall we? Um, so, I, I have no real concerns
04:23about, about this at all. Um, Asuka moves on in the Queen of the Ring tournament. Her
04:29match with Ivy Nile, Raquel Rodriguez, and Stephanie Vaquer. Really fun. Really good match. Um, they
04:35gave Asuka the video treatment last week. They kind of spoiled it with the graphic. Um, I
04:40still think a surprise here would have been more fun. Like, she being, uh, you have a surprise
04:43on the men's side, a surprise on the women's side. Asuka the surprise here. I think you
04:47would have got a huge reaction. And I think you would have got, would have got an even
04:50bigger reaction to her winning. And I think that would have been pretty exciting. I think
04:54the one, the one reason to not is that it is in the bracket with Stephanie Vaquer. And
04:59so, everyone would just be assuming, okay, well, Stephanie's winning this. And then going
05:02on to da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And so, you, you do risk running into a lot of people being
05:08excited about Stephanie. And then that getting taken away. Um, but I, I still think that probably
05:14would have been the way to go. Either way, this was, it was a fun match. Um, Asuka is
05:17good as ever. The face paint is elite. Um, all of it is, it's, it's a fun, fun character
05:22that they have going on right now. I think Ivy Nile deserves more of an opportunity. Uh,
05:26performers are, like her, are the reason why they made the Intercontinental Championship
05:30on the women's side. And, and I do, we'll get to it in a second. I do like the Bailey-Becky
05:34thing for Evolution and, and Onward. But once that picture gets kind of sorted, I, I do think
05:40that Niall needs to be more involved in a few things here. Um, we continue the, the, uh, Raquel
05:48Rhea feud. Um, they, they, they have forever rivals feel to them, don't they? Right? Like,
05:54I, I think that, uh, with the right storytelling, you can get this pretty quickly to feeling like
05:58a blood feud going into Evolution with all the history they have from, uh, that they told
06:03coming up together and at NXT and now on the main roster as well. There's a lot of history
06:08there. So there's a, a big story that you can tell with that. And then Stephanie Vakere
06:12continues to just have it. Uh, the crowd, it loves her. The matches are great. The, the
06:18Devil's Kiss has turned into the highlight spot of the night, um, for various reasons,
06:22for various people. But, um, using it in creative ways now on the ladder and on the, on the apron.
06:30She's, she's a star. She is just a star. And it's exciting to see now kind of where she
06:35is going. So I'm hoping we get an actual feud for her to, to really sink her teeth into. Quite
06:40frankly, if EO was a heel, I would say just give her the title now. Um, and you guys know what I
06:45think of EO. At least put her in a feud there. So I'm interested to see what the first like real
06:49feud is for, uh, Stephanie Vakere. Also in the women's division mentioned it before, Becky and
06:55Bailey. Um, I thought they had a really good promo battle here. You have two vets who
07:01are very comfortable with each other. They are very good and it's, it's just, it's nice
07:08and easy build for them. This should be a really good match at Evolution. I am very much looking
07:12forward to seeing what we get out of these two. Honestly, I think you could close the show
07:18with it. You know, like at first that seems a little, hmm, but think about it. We're talking
07:24about Evolution here. What's been the Evolution in the women's division in the next little bit?
07:30It would be rude to say, hey, they're much more awesome than they were then. Um, probably. But
07:36the, the, like the, the real tangible evolution that you have are these new belts and you have
07:42two of your biggest stars wrestling for them. So why not, why not put them in the main event there
07:46to really highlight the evolution that this company has had in the women's division? Um, the, the Lyra
07:53part of this is interesting. She confronts Becky or Bailey, sorry, backstage. And I, I had just
07:59kind of assumed like these two were going to be teammates going into WrestleMania. So they are now
08:03teaming up here and that's, that's not really the case. Uh, you, you had Lyra saying, I'm going to do
08:09what's best for you. You did what's best for you. I'm going to do what's best for me. Um, it, it, it had
08:13a hint of a heel turn there. I don't think that would be the best way to use her, but I, it's an
08:20interesting wrinkle. And either way, I just don't want her getting lost in the wash here. Like she is,
08:25she is a very good performer. She is figuring this character out a little bit and I think needs more
08:31seasoning around that. So just, she, she needs to be involved more to, cause there's a star there
08:37somewhere. Um, Jey Uso advances in the King of the Ring tournament. It was a fun match. I know he's not
08:43everyone's cup of tea, but they obviously have a star in Jey Uso right now that the crowd is so into
08:49him. The merch sales are insane. You have to go with this guy still, right? So I, I actually think
08:56getting him away from the scrutiny of the world title picture is going to be beneficial to him.
09:01And I think that will definitely help him out. It gives him a little bit more flexibility with
09:06what you can do with the character. Um, no question that a, a main eventer has been built
09:11in Jey Uso. And now it is just a case of what, what direction they go from here. We got
09:17Karrion Kross and Sami Zayn facing off in the back. Um, I still think that the way to go about
09:22this is to have Sami Zayn head out. He is going for his title opportunity. It's in Saudi Arabia,
09:28where there's obviously a lot of history there. And now what does he, what, what, what can he get
09:35over this hump and get to a title opportunity against the guy who has beaten for a championship
09:40before, presumably in Gunther. Can you do that? Um, instead he loses to a guy who's supposed to be
09:47his friend in Cody. And it just, it, it is the heartbreak that kind of turns him a little bit.
09:54I will say, I think there's an interesting angle where Karrion Kross helps Sami Zayn.
10:00And we have another, now it's another heel faction on Raw, but we have another heel group
10:04and Sami Zayn sees the dark side. I think there are different ways you can go, but I, I do think
10:09that Sami getting to the champ, to the, the King of the Ring final and losing his championship
10:14opportunity is a very good storytelling device going forward. I will say though, it's probably
10:19the last big loss you can do without there being a significant change to the character going forward
10:25here. So that's, that's where we are at right now with, uh, with him. Other notes here, they edited
10:31the Punk, uh, Cena promo brilliantly. It was a bit of a choppy one on SmackDown, but we got the,
10:37the ultimate messaging out and the Punk line of, uh, you can say, um, you're going to drag me out
10:42of my comfort zone. I would go to hell to wrestle you for that championship to prove that I am better
10:47than you. Um, these two are so good at building these up. I am still not looking forward to what
10:52that match looks like, says the hypocrite who's excited for Goldberg, but I, I, I am excited to see
10:59how this build goes in the next week and a bit. Um, and then AJ Styles pushes toward the
11:05Intercontinental title, uh, against Dom. He beats JD McDonough. I thought that the stuff with the
11:09Judgment Day and Finn, it's becoming really entertaining and Finn, Finn just being an
11:14asshole basically is a character that has worked for him. So, um, they, they have found something
11:19with that. And honestly, if they put the IC title on AJ, not breaking my heart, I, I would kind of like
11:26that. And, uh, one last note here. I thought Corey Graves was great on commentary. I, I could,
11:32I could really see a three-man booth with, um, him, Cole and McAfee, uh, being something that would
11:38work together pretty well. So I, uh, overall it was, it was a good raw, not a great raw. And they
11:44are certainly building to something here in the next little bit. Again, if you want more wrestling talk,
11:49look for the podcast, obviously Couch Potato Diary. We're still going to have like these breakdowns.
11:53Um, they're going to be more time sensitive, uh, when I can do the streams live again.
11:58Um, the, the, the, the breakdowns and everything are still going to be on Couch Potato Diary proper.
12:03So if you like your wrestling with your sports, we will have it for you. But if you just want the
12:07wrestling, uh, it will be on Living Room Lariats, the new podcast here from the Couch Potato Diary
12:12network. Um, more details to come on that. Follow me on social media. Uh, but there's gonna be a lot
12:17of great wrestling content coming out of that.
