00:47Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
01:06The U.S. House of Representatives approved Thursday the controversial tax and spending cut package pushed by President Donald Trump, who proudly called it the One Big Beautiful Bill.
01:16With 218 votes in favor and 214 against, the Republicans managed to overcome the Democratic opposition.
01:24The White House already celebrated the result, calling it a victory.
01:28It was then announced that the President will sign the new law on Friday. Today, the U.S. commemorates its independence at 5 p.m. local time.
01:37With this package, the President seeks to implement a series of domestic reforms related to taxes, cuts and state spending, aimed at priority sectors such as health, immigration, defense, industry, environment and energy.
01:51The One Big Beautiful Bill contemplates tax cuts in orders of billions of dollars that will be offset by cuts to social programs in health and nutrition.
02:08It also includes increasing public spending on defense, border security, anti-immigration policies and energy.
02:15The One Big Beautiful Bill would cut food aid to nearly 5 million people. It would also cut nursing home care for seniors.
02:23Moreover, it would increase the national debt by 3.25 trillion US dollars and cut taxes on billionaires by 1.3 trillion US dollars.
02:33It would make it even easier to buy silencers and firearms. Likewise, it would massively increase funding for immigration detention,
02:4375 billion US dollars for ICE and border patrol raids, and gathers at 45 billion US dollars to incarcerate immigrants, including children,
02:53plus 69 billion dollars to continue construction of the border wall.
03:01In Mexico, hurricane flows weakens to Category 1 off the southwest coast. According to the United States National Hurricane Center,
03:29the national event is expected to remain offshore and dissipate later on Thursday.
03:34Although the agency forecast high-risk storm surge waves and rip currents in southwestern Mexico and Baja California peninsula in the coming days.
03:44The hurricane center also said that Flossie was located 345 kilometers south of Cape San Lucas in the Pacific Ocean while moving northwestward.
03:55In Argentina, at least nine people are reported that due to the extreme polar cold wave that the South American nation is facing, the victims succumbed to the cold while living on the streets in different regions of the country.
04:14According to the international meteorological records, the low temperatures registered in the capital Buenos Aires and other provinces position the nation as the coldest country in the world.
04:29Spanish authorities reported that in June 2025 some 380 people have died from the diseases triggered by the heat wave that hits the country.
04:39The daily all-cause mortality monitoring system known as MOMO of the Carlos III Health Institute highlighted that in recent weeks temperatures have been extreme in the country so that temperature records have been broken in several Spanish municipalities.
04:55In this sense, the state meteorological agencies confirmed that June was the warmest since historical record success.
05:02Likewise, the 2025 general program recorded closer to 2200 deaths attributed to the extreme temperatures, both high and low ones.
05:12And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tik Tok at Telestad English where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.
05:23We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:25Welcome back to From the South.
05:53The United Nations Special Reporter for Palestine, Francesca Albanese, demanded an arms embargo on the Israeli regime as well as the suspension of all trade and investment relations with Israel.
06:04During a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Albanese emphasized that Israel is responsible for one of the most brutal genocides in contemporary history in the Gaza Strip.
06:16She also described the humanitarian foundation of Gaza as a trap intended to kill and forcibly displaced Gazans.
06:23She had previously criticized human rights violations in Palestine and the West continued military and financial support for Tel Aviv.
06:32Do not push us to take seriously international obligations.
06:48obligations then we really really beyond the pale so here's the here's what i what i conclude
06:56there is no no possibility no possibility to stepping out of this situation other than
07:03for member states to do what the international court of justice demands through its ruling and
07:09through its provisional measures imposing an arms embargo immediately it's not about the asking for
07:15a ceasefire this is not a war this is a genocidal campaign and it's clear and now it's cedar
07:22carried out under the pretense of humanitarian food distribution this is a death trap
07:31the government of iran reaffirms the victory of the islamic nation against the syanis regime during
07:36the 12-day conflict the chief of the general staff general abdul rahim mousavi confirmed that evidence
07:43both obvious and hidden proof israel's and its u.s allies attempt to destabilize the country was
07:49a crushing defeat he pointed out that any mistake by israel in teheran would be met with a strong
07:55defense from the iranian people and armed forces he also stated that the nuclear issue was merely a
08:02pretext for attacking iran and that the real objective of its enemies was to weaken and fragment
08:08the islamic republic system israel and the syrian de facto government negotiate a security agreement
08:19to confront iran and the hezbollah resistance movement in the region the agreement is not
08:25reportedly within the framework of the so-called abraham accords led by the united states but the
08:31trump administration has provided support to these countries the maneuver seeks to expand the
08:37occupation and the border of syrian gola and the the plunder of gas through israel to syria and also
08:45the control of the water fields in the jarmouk river the israeli army claims that in order to
08:50execute extraction maneuver they will need to break the alleged influence of iran and hezbollah in the
08:57region the ethiopian government built a large renascence dam on the blue river which has led to
09:17territorial tensions between egypt and sudan the prime minister abai hamed announced that the state is
09:23committed to the the project which will be opened in september despite suggestions that it be
09:29interrupted ahmed remarked that the infrastructure is a shared opportunity and a symbol of regional
09:35cooperation and mutual benefit for the energy and development it will generate to boost the entire
09:40region meanwhile egypt and sudan have expressed their concerns about the project considering it a
09:46threat to their vital water resources however ethiopia announced its will to engage constructively with
09:54downstream countries and we have a second short break coming up before we invite you to visit our

10:31summit concluded thursday in buenos aides argentina with the announcement of a free trade agreement with
10:36european free trade association in his last speech as mercosur's pro-temporary president javier
10:43millay questioned the validity of the common market demanded more flexibility for the blog called
10:49for ultra-liberal reforms in favor of commercial freedom and warned that argentina could abandon the
10:55blog if the partners do not follow these measures the argentina president was joined at the summit by
11:01foreign minister gerardo worthane and presidential secretary carina millay visiting heads of state
11:08including the president of brazil paraguay uruguay bolivia and panama the new blocks rotating presidency was
11:15formally handed over to brazil
11:29and the prime minister of san vincent and the granadins raf gonzalves offered an exclusive interview to our
11:51multi-platform telesur and discuss issues of regional importance for latin america and the caribbean let's
11:56listen hello studios we continue our tour of saint vincent and the grenadines and in this case in kingstown
12:08we are very honored to be joined by prime minister raf gonzalves at this moment thank you so much
12:15prime minister for joining us here in telesur thank you very much for having me and we are here for a
12:22very special occasion venezuela is celebrating its declaration of independence on july 5th and
12:29saint vincent and the grenadines has always been in favor of boosting those ties of solidarity of
12:36integration in the region even in a moment in time in which major powers are doing a lot of things against
12:44those ties of solidarity why is it important to continue those efforts the great africanist leader
12:55from jamaica the right excellent marcus mosiah garvey the national hero of jamaica remarked in the early
13:0420th century at the time of the universal negro improvement association the largest organization of
13:11courses of african descent in the diaspora ever he said in a very summary way if you want to go fast
13:23you go alone if you want to go far you go together but when you go far together you end up going faster
13:33than if you go alone it's a philosophical proposition which is manifested over the centuries
13:42we are in a society the atomized individual
13:47the apotheosis of the atomized individual the highest point of the the atomized individual is the american
13:55howard hughes who ended up as a pathetic figure whereas the solidarity of chateaulier of bolivar of marty of fidel
14:10of javez that is what brings true benefits to a community an individual alone can't build a house
14:22an individual alone may be able to print may be able to paint something but for it to reach a wide
14:32audience it needs a number of persons to help disseminate it and so on absolutely so you ask me
14:40that's why that's why we are in caracom that's why we are in the organization of east caribbean states
14:46that's why we are in the alba different circles of regional integration that's why we are in sila
14:53the community of states of latin america and the caribbean which is a wider hemispheric
14:58um regional entity and we we are in all of these bodies and they all have points of relevance and
15:06contact with each other alone we're not going to go far we have to work together and the important thing
15:15about any integration is that that integration must be organic not mechanistic organic in the sense
15:24that the strengths and weaknesses of each unit of each territory those trends and weaknesses are
15:33dissolved into the whole so that the whole ends up being more than a summation of the individual parts
15:40and then we must ensure that the various parts are not unequally yoked so that every single entity
15:51at the end of the day profits not profit in narrow monetary terms but that value is added to them and
16:02their people and their lives as a consequence of that integration that's what it is about
16:08prime minister you were mentioning marty and fidel and we are visiting here from havana actually and
16:14one of those attempts against integration has been the targeting of cuban medical missions during the
16:20past months what are your what is your perspective on the topic of this moment after a few months
16:27were passed from the last statement from the u.s well we in the caribbean and particularly saint vincent and
16:33grenadines we have answered with dignity and with openness and with honesty to our american friends
16:45that they've got it wrong and they had a view of the cuban medical brigade and those in education and those in
16:56infrastructure the engineers the land surveys and the like that they got it completely wrong
17:02this is not an exploitative system we have a sophisticated structure of modern labor laws
17:10and we are signatories to a range of international conventions so to cuba and we abide by them
17:17there's no exploitation taking place here there's no human trafficking if you go around and you talk
17:22to the vincentian people and you talk to the cubans themselves i don't have to go to the details here
17:27i give you what is the summary conclusion and i think that the americans are satisfied with what
17:34we are doing and what we have said and we have been i've been an open book on it now it is true that
17:43there's a jaundiced view in some of the taverns in south florida but if ever there was any arrangement
17:54which they talk about if ever that existed it has never existed since i came to office 25 years ago
18:03maybe some other time before that which i don't know about i can only speak for the last quarter century
18:11since i've been prime minister and since we have been working with cuba with with this remarkable
18:18act of solidarity through nurses doctors engineers and the like now prime minister last question uh what we
18:28what brings us here is binsimas and we are trying to capture the spirit of the carnival and take it
18:33and share it with the rest of the region and the south american continent as well magnificent music
18:40exactly so songs of all type calypsos and soca and steel band and mass is like it's unique we there's a
18:49generalized cannibal throughout the whole of latin america and the caribbean but we are we have our
18:54unique flavor and i hope you get to take in some of it and you will see as we go about people interacting
19:04with love this is a land and an area of peace and that's why i support very strongly president maduro's
19:11quest quest to have a campaign for peace and against war and that's why saint vincent and grenadines we
19:21became the local of the argyle declaration which brought guyana and venezuela together along with
19:28other carcom countries and brazil and so forth so that whatever dispute and challenges they may have
19:35we settle them peacefully right now i am coming to the 214th anniversary of the founding of the republic
19:46of venezuela i'm coming from the southern grenadines where i just had a farewell lunch with 40 members
19:55of the guy in the defense force who came here to help us over the last three months to rebuild homes
20:01venezuela has helped in innumerable ways i've just come from an event involved in guanese i'm my
20:09brothers and sisters there i'm here now with my venezuelan brothers and sisters we are one whatever
20:15difficulties we have we sort them out in peace not in war in solidarity thank you so much prime minister
20:24for joining us it's been our pleasure thank you very much that was of course prime minister ralph
