00:00Hello, Madam President Gustavo Petro filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office
00:15against former Foreign Minister Ălvaro Leipa for an alleged coup plot to remove him from office.
00:20The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives advanced President Donald
00:28Trump's tax cut and spending bill in a procedural step ahead of the final vote.
00:37The UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine, Francesc Albanese, demanding an arms embargo on the
00:42Israeli regime as well as the suspension of all trade and investment relations with Israel.
00:53Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Derezo Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:58We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:13Colombian President Gustavo Petro filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office against
01:17former Foreign Minister Ălvaro Leipa for an alleged coup plot to remove him from office.
01:22The legal recourse presented before the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic refers that the conducts
01:27of the former Foreign Minister violate the fundamental principles of the Constitution,
01:31which aims to protect the popular sovereignty and democratic stability.
01:35Leipa's alleged plan to overthrow Petro was revealed on Sunday by the newspaper El PaĂs,
01:41which published audios in which the former Foreign Minister claims to have met two months ago in the United States
01:47with Congressman Mario DĂaz-BalĂĄr in an attempt to approach the Secretary of State Marcos Rubio
01:51and to exert international pressure against Petro.
02:00He is a former Foreign Minister of this government, and he could not, as a former Foreign Minister of this government,
02:09go to a foreign government to ask them to put pressure on it to help them break the constitutional framework
02:15so that President Petro would leave office unlawfully.
02:19That cannot be done.
02:21On Thursday, the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives advanced President Donald Trump's tax cut and spending bill.
02:32The move is a procedural step setting the stage for possible passage of the legislation in a vote expected later.
02:37The House voted 219 in favor and 213 against.
02:41Doved by Trump as the one big, beautiful bill, the proposed legislation faces opposition by Democrats
02:46and within Trump's Republican Party, where members have voiced concerns about the trillions it is likely to add to the national debt
02:53and cuts to social safety net programs such as Medicaid.
02:57Speaker, I rise today in strong opposition to Donald Trump's one big, ugly bill.
03:08This disgusting abomination, the GOP tax scam that guts Medicaid, rips food from the mouths of children, seniors and veterans,
03:21and rewards billionaires with massive tax breaks.
03:26Every single Democrat stands in strong opposition to this bill because we're standing up for the American people.
03:41Also in the United States, a federal judge blocked an order by President Donald Trump to ban asylum at the country's southern border
03:48after concluding that it contravenes immigration laws that protect those seeking refuge in the U.S.
03:53U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss asserted in a 128-page document that President Trump exceeded his authority
04:00by violating immigration and nationality law, which established strict guidelines on who qualifies for asylum.
04:07Moss stated that neither the immigration law nor the Constitution grants the President an extra-regulatory regime
04:13to repatriate or remove individuals from the United States without an opportunity to apply for asylum.
04:19This legal battle began in early February, shortly after Donald Trump's inauguration.
04:24Yes, we have a very good one today.
04:53St. Vincent and the Grenadines continue to celebrate Vincent Mass, most important traditions and carnival seasons in the Caribbean.
05:00Let's go live with our special envoy, Belen de los Santos, who is in country to have all the latest information on these celebrations.
05:07Welcome, Belen.
05:10Hello, Luis. Again, such a pleasure to be with you once more from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, specifically from Arnest Vale,
05:19just a few kilometers away from Kingstown. We've been touring the city and really enjoying this carnival that is underway,
05:29this carnival that is Vinci Mass, and that is heading into the most important days.
05:35Actually, today, Thursday, is one of the most important celebrations, and we've been talking about how the preparations were getting ready.
05:44We were in Kingstown, downtown Kingstown, last night, and we can definitely say that many people did not get any sleep last night,
05:54and not because of partying, but because of that preparation, last-minute costumes, last-minute rehearsals as well,
06:03because the main events are coming, and those events are competitions, band competitions.
06:09We are going to have the Steel and Glitter Festival featuring the Steel Band competition, and also some masquerades.
06:19So, the costumes meet the percussion, meet the music in general in this big celebration
06:27that is always highlighting the cross of this identity, diversity, and cultural heritage that we are working with,
06:38and really living with here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
06:41Yesterday, as we were saying, we talked to Ali from the Nelson's Block,
06:47one of these mass bands that we were sharing with you.
06:52So, the bands are the groups that prepare and then compete in this carnival.
06:58They compete with their own costumes, with their own storytelling.
07:03They were telling us a little bit about this tradition, and also the importance of the artisan work that goes into this tradition.
07:11And also, the carnival here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a specific characteristic,
07:17characteristic, and that is that they are trying to tell a story in the street.
07:21That's what Ali was telling us.
07:23Let's listen to her a little bit.
07:25Everything is made from hand.
07:28So, what we do is do traditional mass to depict, as my colleagues say,
07:33a storyline to tell on the streets of Kingston.
07:36So, you can watch it and say, oh, wow, yes, we have this.
07:40Oh, yes, this will happen.
07:42It may not come the way you expected or think it will come, but then when you see it, you say, wow, I didn't expect it to come that way.
07:50What we try to do, as we say, depict a storyline, and this is something we try to maintain.
07:55It is not what we find the young people want.
07:59This is, and it's hard because we have been trying, not just this band, but other bands,
08:04the umbrella of bands, have been trying on numerous occasions to get back into the primary level
08:10and work with the children coming up so they can do the hands-on in terms of sketch.
08:16You know what I mean?
08:17Come, you sketch it, let me say if you can build it.
08:19How best you can come and build it within a mass cam?
08:21How best you can take cardboard and turn it into something?
08:24It is hard.
08:25People find it's hard, but once you get the hang of it, you'll love it.
08:28That's nice and...
08:34So we were talking to Ali, and she was saying that, well, there's really no translating the true spirit of the carnival.
08:44You need to be here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but we are trying our best to carry some of those voices,
08:50some of those ideas, so that you can enjoy with us what is happening here in this beautiful island nation.
08:57So we will continue to bring you everything of these celebrations and festivities.
09:02Stay tuned to see the Steel Band competition coming in a few hours.
09:07We hope to bring you some of that, but for now, Luis, I go back to you.
09:11Thank you, Bulen. We're going to be waiting for those beautiful images of those competitions that you were referring to,
09:16and we'll stay in touch to have all the latest updates coming from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
09:21Let's now take our first break.
09:22Remember, you can join us on TikTok at Teleso English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
09:29We'll be right back. Stay with us.
09:30Welcome back.
09:50In Venezuela, President NicolĂĄs Maduro emphasized the importance of unity within the Bolivarian Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism
09:57in order to ensure peace and tranquility for Venezuelan families.
10:01During the Bolivarian Armed Forces promotion ceremony, the President of Venezuela praised the efforts
10:06and dedication of its armed forces in the face of constant threats to the country, many of which originate in Colombia.
10:13He assured us on this that unity is the backbone of the country in the face of imperialist actions by the West.
10:19He also denounced violent groups financed from abroad who seek to destabilize the Bolivarian revolution.
10:32Today, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, in body and soul, are deployed from north to south, from east to west, in combat,
10:41guaranteeing the fight against criminal, violent, drug trafficking, counter-revolutionary gangs, mercenaries.
10:49Who always come to us from abroad, always come to us, you know from where, from Colombia, all kinds of threats.
11:03And in Peru, Citizens Collective for Life has decided to collect 81,000 signatures, 0.3% of the electoral roll,
11:14to present a legislative initiative to repeal the laws in favor of organized crime that have been enacted by the Congress of the Republic.
11:21The correspondent Ramiro Angulo brings us the details.
11:24Using the right to participate in politics, the Citizens Collective for Life has begun collecting signatures
11:35to repeal laws that favor organized crime.
11:39We are going to collect the 81,000 signatures and generate a citizen movement of active participation in politics,
11:46from the formation of law, and try to build public policies that favor security.
11:51In that line is that this struggle that we are undertaking is located, in order to present a bill to the Congress of the Republic,
11:58and unmask the political sector that has made possible the increase in crime.
12:03The initiative, which requires 81,000 signatures, seeks to motivate the population to participate in politics,
12:12in a country where, according to official data, six deaths occur.
12:17The citizens have voted overwhelmingly against parliamentary immunity in 2018, in the referendum held on December 9.
12:24More than 90% vote against parliamentary immunity, the government approved parliamentary immunity.
12:30We vote against re-election, the government approved relations.
12:33We vote against bicameralists, the government approved bicameralists.
12:36That is, there is a permanent mockery to the citizens by the Congress.
12:40For the promoters of the project, the lack of efficient policies against crime shows the complicity of the authorities with the crime.
12:50Before it was by association, but now they are charging individually, so the situation is terrible.
12:59Here in San Juan, nobody escaped.
13:01Both street vendors, merchants, grocers, motorcycle taxi, drivers, transporters, all of them already pay a quota.
13:09That is, the criminal organization managed today, because it has no resources to finance the hard killer to go to kill without mercy.
13:16With the good reconception of the initiative, the promoters hope that citizen pressure will grow,
13:24and enforce the Congress to repeal the question laws.
13:28But they are understanding, in the first place, that there is a loophole, an opportunity,
13:36such as the presentation of the citizenship itself for a bill.
13:40So that means that people are becoming more politicized, more aware of the needs of this instrument.
13:46That is why I also, as a worker, am incorporated in this process.
13:50And not only me, my neighbors, my colleagues participate in this process.
13:55If the bill is rejected, its promoters will continue to collect signatures to promote a broad, popular consultation,
14:05in order to eliminate these norms that threaten the right to live.
14:09From Lima, to TELESUR, Ramiro Angulo Maquiavelo.
14:13And Malay's government welcomes Wednesday the regional heads of states to arrive to attend the Mercosur Summit,
14:21in which Argentina will transfer the pro-tempered presidency to Brazil.
14:25The encounter is held in Buenos Aires at the San Martin Palace, where Argentine President Javier Malay met with his Mercosur counterparts.
14:33During Argentina's pro-tempered presidency, the head of state insisted that the bloc must be flexible,
14:38and the member states must be allowed to seal free trade deals with other regions.
14:43The areas referred to the already reached agreement with a European trade group were $4.3 trillion.
14:48At the end of the summit, a declaration is expected with their agreed items,
14:52although tension remains following the announcement of Brazilian President Luis Ignacio de la Silva
14:56to visit former Argentine President Cristina FernĂĄndez de Kirchner.
15:08Spanish authorities reported that in June 2025 some 380 people have died from the diseases triggered by the heatwave that hits the country.
15:25The daily all-cause mortality monitoring system, known as MOMO of the Carlos III Health Institute,
15:32highlighted that in recent weeks, temperatures have been extreme in the country
15:38so that temperature records have been broken in several Spanish municipalities.
15:42In this sense, the state meteorological agency confirmed that June was the warmest since historical records exist.
15:49Likewise, the 2025 general program recorded closer to 2,200 deaths attributed to extreme temperatures, both high and low ones.
15:59And around 5,000 people, most of whom were tourists, were evacuated due to a forest fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon
16:13in the Lasithis region of Crete, Greece.
16:16According to the fire department, the fire has broken out on three points and continues to evolve, driven by gusts of wind.
16:23This has forced the evacuation of five coastal towns.
16:26The Arepetra municipality authorities reported that several houses in the area were affected by the fire, as well as cultivated areas and old trees.
16:36About 235 firefighters are in the region, while 10 helicopters and 8 tankers are dropping water to control the flames.
16:42In Serbia, nearly 80 people were arrested Wednesday evening following riots in some four cities across the country.
16:58The Interior Ministry stated that some 79 people had been arrested, 72 of them for administrative offenses and 7 for suspected violations of the criminal code.
17:07In addition, reports from the National Police revealed that four officers were injured while they were confronting opposition groups and students who had cordoned off streets and highways.
17:17In this regard, Serbian authorities maintained that protests were aimed at overthrowing the government, and the President noting that organizations and media funded from abroad were behind them.

18:23The UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine, San Francisco Albanese, demanded an arms embargo on the Israeli regime, as well as the suspension of all trade and investment relations with Israel.
18:33During a session of the UN Human Rights Council, Albanese emphasized that Israel is responsible for one of the most brutal genocides in contemporary history in the Gaza Strip.
18:41She also described the humanitarian foundation of Gaza as a trap intended to kill and forcibly displaced Gazans.
18:48She had previously criticized human rights violations in Palestine and the West's continued military and financial support for Tel Aviv.
18:54The Israeli Occupation Forces claimed on early Thursday 73 Palestinian lives amid the escalation of the Sinic Genocide campaign in the Gaza Strip.
19:09Gaza and government's media office unfolded that among the fatalities, there were 33 desperate people seeking help at eight distribution centers run by the controversial Israeli and U.S.-backed Gaza humanitarian foundation.
19:22While in southern Al-Mawazi, the Israeli army attacked at 10, bringing about 13 deaths.
19:26Likewise, the Sionist forces dropped shellings on the Mustafa Hafez school.
19:31As a result, 11 civilians were killed, in addition to multiple injured.
19:35Overall, Palestinian authorities reported that over 300 people have been killed in 26 massacres committed by the occupation army in the last 48 hours.
19:44In Israel, the Syrian de facto government negotiated a security agreement to confront Iran and the Hezbollah resistance movement in the region.
19:59The agreement is not properly within the framework of the so-called Abraham Accords led by the United States, but the Trump administration has provided support to these countries.
20:07The manoeuvre seeks to expand the occupation on the border of the Syrian Golan, the plunder of gas through Israel to Syria, and control the waterfields of the Yarmouk River.
20:16The Israeli army claims that in order to execute extraction manoeuvre, they will need to break the alleged influence of Iran and Hezbollah in the region.
20:30The Syrian authorities report around seven fatalities and several injuries after an explosion.
20:35According to local media reports, the incident occurred in the town of Durin in the Hama province near Damascus.
20:41The cause of the explosion is still unknown.
20:44Meanwhile, an explosion occurred in a weapons depot in Al-Foa, Idlib.
20:48There were no reports of death or injuries among the civilian population or emergency services.
20:53The Syrian Ministry of Defense said that the explosions were caused by high temperatures and denied any death or injuries among citizens.
21:00In Indonesia, at least 35 people were rescued following a ferry shipwreck on the tourist island of Bali.
21:20Authorities reported 24 others are still missing.
21:23So far, a default stands at six hours after their work.
21:27Authorities continue the search in incredible rafts, hoping to find the rest of the missing.
21:31But the strong wind and the high tide make the task difficult.
21:34The Search and Rescue Office of Surabaya reported that the vessel carrying 53 passengers and 12 crew members sank at 11.20 pm local time on Wednesday.
21:43The causes for the incident are still unknown.
21:46However, Indonesian authorities launched an investigation to determine the truth.
