00:54Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:55I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:58We begin with the news.
00:59In Venezuela, the newly elected governor to the Guayana-Sequiva state, Neil Villamizar,
01:16was sent in on Thursday for the period 2025-2029.
01:19In a ceremony presided by Vice President Delsi Rodriguez, the members of the Legislative
01:25Council of the state carried out the soaring-in process as established by the Venezuelan constitution.
01:31During the act, Governor Villamizar emphasized that this is a historic moment for the Guayan-Sequiva,
01:37a special moment for the country, and confirmed that the Ezequiva belongs to Venezuela.
01:42Villamizar highlighted the implementation of the Ezequiva program adapted to the needs of
01:49the territory with a strong popular focus.
01:51Furthermore, the governor emphasized that his administration will focus on minors producing
01:5740% of the state's population.
02:04And that's the intention to go ahead with a governmental program named Ezequiva 7T derived from the Homeland
02:22Plan, which is Organic Law from 2025-2031, the Plan of Seven Transformations.
02:32And this, according to our Commander-in-Chief and President Nicolás Maduro, this is going
02:37to be a popular government.
02:40We will boost a communal government because the good things are made by the people.
02:47And so we are going to focus on communal projects.
02:52We govern minors.
02:54We govern alongside agriculture, producers, housewives, artisans, and alongside drivers, entrepreneurs,
03:08and all our indigenous people that represent over 90% of the population of our Guayana-Sequiva
03:17state.
03:18During the event, Venezuelan Vice President Delsi Rodriguez made reference to the fact that
03:23the state of Guayana-Sequiva is now non-negotiable and that the United States should be aware
03:28that it will not be taken away.
03:31Right now, we are just writing history.
03:36It was born the political idea of our Guayana-Sequiva state.
03:42We've got an idea to act and live in the territory that belongs to us.
03:48The government of Venezuela denounced on Thursday the new travel restrictions announced by the
03:53Trump administration condemn them as a new stigmatization campaign against the Venezuelan people.
04:00The official communique states that Venezuela categorically condemns and rejects the campaign
04:05of stigmatization and criminalization launched against its people by the government of the United
04:10States of America now expressing a new attack that restricts the issuance and validity of
04:16visas for Venezuelan citizens without any justification and with obvious political and intimidating
04:22purposes.
04:23It goes on to condemn that this operation has been promoted by the current Secretary of State,
04:29Marco Rubio, an official known for his hatred of the Venezuelan people, who has made systematic
04:36aggression his foreign policy with the support of the Venezuelan far-right.
04:41Furthermore, the Venezuelan government reiterated its unwavering commitment to defending the
04:46rights and interests of Venezuelans anywhere in the world and in the face of this new wave
04:51of aggression reaffirms the maximum travel alert to the United States of America.
04:56The communique ends by underscoring what has happened is not an isolated incident but a new
05:02demonstration of the visceral hatred against the Venezuelan people that animates those who
05:08today conduct Washington's foreign policy.
05:16In this context, the Venezuelan Minister of Interior Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello,
05:21also rejected the decree that partially restricts the entry of Venezuelan migrants to the U.S.
05:26On his program Con el Maso Dando, Cabello affirmed that the measure not only affects Venezuela,
05:32but also citizens of six other countries whose applications for entry had been restricted.
05:38The minister further described as risky to travel to the United States.
05:42In this regard, the PSUV leader accused the U.S. government of being led by fascist and
05:47supremacist sectors that persecute Venezuelan citizens without justification.
05:51The United States has just prohibited the entry of any Venezuelan.
06:06They are like nine countries.
06:10Not even with a visa.
06:14Visas for the United States have been eliminated.
06:20It is really risky for anyone to be in the United States, not only for Venezuelans.
06:27If you're feeling irresponsible, go to the United States, take your holidays, and go to the United States.
06:39Ask for it.
06:40Make the effort and go to the United States.
06:44In the U.S. government there are bad people.
06:46It's fascism, it's the supremacists who think they own the world.
06:50More on this topic, as Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also rejected the Trump administration's decree.
06:58Through the Social Network X, the official denounced that the new ban on entry to the U.S. for nationals of several countries has racist undertones,
07:08and is supported by anti-Cuban politicians, adding that it harms contact between Cuban families.
07:15It damages personal, professional, academic, and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
07:26The government of China has condemned the latest tariff hikes on steel and aluminum products imposed by the United States,
07:33warning of the negative impact on global supply chains.
07:37The United States has once again raised tariffs on steel, aluminum and their derivative products.
07:46This move is not only detrimental to itself and others, does nothing to safeguard industrial security,
07:52but also disrupts the stability of global supply chains.
07:56The U.S. approach has been opposed by multiple countries.
08:00China urges the U.S. to respect economic laws, abandon zero-sum thinking, stop generalizing and abusing the concept of national security,
08:09and work together, with other countries, to safeguard a rules-based, multilateral trading system.
08:17And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
08:23where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:26Welcome back to From the South.
08:41In Panama, the trade unions' strike and protests are underway to demand the repeal of Law 462 of the Social Security Fund
08:50and stand against the government's policies.
08:53The Ministry of Education requested the resumption of classes after 43 days of indefinite strike,
08:59but the teachers' union stated that they won't engage in dialogue or return to the classroom until the law be repelled.
09:06In this sense, trade unions urged citizens to join rallies grounded in these law harms families.
09:12Moreover, they underscored that privatization only guarantees a decrease and an elimination of the historical benefits won with hard work.
09:21Therefore, Panamanians rejected the memorandum of understanding with the United States, the military bases,
09:28the reopening of the Donoso copper mine and the persecution of trade unions.
09:38In this context, regardless of the constitutional right to go on strike in Panama,
09:43the General Comptroller of the Republic indicated that the stoppage of classes by teachers was illegal.
09:49Subsequently, the authority announced that next week 15,000 educators won't receive their salaries.
09:56They further advanced they would access other legal actions they may take against the teachers' union.
10:03Likewise, the comptroller's office highlighted they would review the teachers' databank
10:08to replace those instructors who were not teaching due to that they had to join the strike.
10:13A report reveals that 30% of Salvadorans struggled to make ends meet due to low income.
10:27A publication by the consultancy firm Cantar states that 46% of Salvadorans base their budget on current priorities.
10:36The report also highlights the important role that remittances play in supporting families.
10:42The document also notes that Salvadoran households differ from those in the rest of the Central American region,
10:48in that 60% say that the remittances they receive are mostly spent on basic goods.
10:55In El Salvador, lawyer Ruth Lopez, a significant investigator of the crimes committed by the Bukele administration,
11:06will remain in prison after her initial hearing against her finished Wednesday.
11:11The prosecution charged her Wednesday with illicit enrichment.
11:15As a result, her trial was declared in reserve by a judge.
11:19This implied no media outlets could attend her hearings.
11:23In addition, it entailed plaintiffs have no contact with a defendant.
11:28Thus, by the time Lopez was leaving the 12th Peace Court in San Salvador,
11:33she claimed to be a political prisoner because of her work against corruption and abuses of power by the government.
11:40In this context, outside the court, activists gathered to express their solidarity with the lawyer
11:45and denounced the persecution against human rights defenders.
11:53The Peruvian Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo, extended Wednesday for 60 days the state of emergency in the Patas province,
12:01where mining activities would be resumed after 13 security guards had been massacred there.
12:08The Supreme Decree was approved today, which extends the state of emergency in the Patas province in La Libertad Department.
12:21So the decree guarantees the continuity of mining activities.
12:27The Russian Defense Ministry reported Thursday that its troops managed to destroy Ukrainian workshops, warehouses and drone launching sites in the past 24 hours.
12:46The entity further detailed that several ammunition depots and temporary deployment sites of the Ukrainian air forces had been rendered inoperative in some 100 years.
13:01The defense system had shot down a US-made HIMARS missile and around 154 drones, 60 of which had been in civilian areas.
13:13Moreover, authorities noted that the Ukrainian enemy troops lost some 90 military personnel as well as armored vehicles,
13:20self-propelled artillery units, rocket launchers, electronic warfare equipment and other defense materials.

14:17Welcome back to From the South.
14:20The Israeli occupation army killed four journalists in an attack on the Al Ali Baptist Hospital in Gaza City on Thursday.
14:27The Waffen News Agency reported that Israeli drones bombed the courtyard of the health facility, killing four of them and leaving a fifth critically wounded.
14:36The press members were on assignment near the hospital entrance, an area known to be frequented by media personnel.
14:43In this context, the director of the medical center reported that several people were injured in the attack,
14:49stressing this is the eighth time Israel has targeted the facility since the start of its genocidal campaign in October 2023.
14:57More than 220 communication workers have been killed since then.
15:02In the last 34 hours, the Israeli army has killed at least 70 civilians and wounded more than 180 in the attacks on the Gaza Strip.
15:14The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that those injured had been transferred to hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
15:20The Ministry pointed out that 54,677 people have been killed and around 125,600 injured as a result of the Israeli aggression since October 7, 2023.
15:36The report also stated that there are still victims trapped under the rubble and that ambulances and civil defense vehicles cannot access the roads.
15:50In Germany, demonstrators gathered to protest the visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
15:55The mobilization took place in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin, where dozens rallied holding Palestinian flags and placards condemning the genocide Israel commits on Gaza.
16:07Protesters denounced the war crimes committed by Tel Aviv and demanded the prosecution of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
16:13Furthermore, demonstrators called for the government to ban weapons exports to Israel after German Foreign Minister Johan Waderfu reaffirmed on Thursday the nation's military support to the Zionist regime,
16:26also affirming that recognizing a Palestinian state at the moment would send the wrong signal.
16:33While in France, for a state visit, Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva condemned the genocide Israel perpetrates against Palestinians in Gaza,
16:46calling world powers to unite to put an end to it.
16:50What is happening in Gaza is not a war.
16:55What is happening in Gaza is a genocide carried out by a highly prepared army against women and children.
17:05That is what is happening, and humanity has to be indignant in the face of it. Society must be indignant in the face of it, and it's why I keep demanding.
17:15And I am becoming a very boring guy that I keep demanding changes at the United Nations, but, the United Nations of today cannot be the United Nations of 1945.
17:28The organization of today has to have the participation of the African continent, South America, Latin America.
17:36And it is important that the world powers put an end to this immediately.
17:40We cannot continue to have the United Nations calling for a ceasefire, and not have a ceasefire respected.
17:47So people, we are still seeing genocide in front of us every single day.
17:52Every single day.
17:53Yesterday 95 people have died, all innocent and civilians.
17:59On the second day of the Hajj, a pilgrimage, thousands of Muslim faithful flocked to Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabia to pray, seek forgiveness and reflect on their faith.
18:09Despite heat wave warnings, hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims from around the world began the rituals of the Hajj on Wednesday.
18:18This annual pilgrimage takes them to the Saudi cities of Mecca and Medina, where Islam was born 14th centuries ago.
18:25Before then, pilgrims began arriving at the historic hill where the Prophet Muhammad delivered his farewell sermon over 1,400 years ago during his final pilgrimage.
18:37Many of the faithful choose to fast on this day, as it is believed that doing so atones for the sins of the previous and coming years.
18:46And like this, we have come to the end of this brief, but you can find these and many other stories on our website at www.telesurenglish.net and join us on social media.
