00:00In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, citizens are celebrating Vince Aymans, the 2025 carnival that highlights the nation's rich culture.
00:08For more on the vibrant event, we go to Kingstown with our special envoy, Belén de los Santos.
00:17Hello, studios. A bit of a rainy day here in Kingstown in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,
00:23but that is not stopping all the preparations and all the excitement for what's coming in the next few hours.
00:31We have been reporting here. Vince Aymans is underway and the preparation for the final events,
00:38the final weekend with all its glory, colors, traditions, it's underway and everyone is truly prepared.
00:47Last rehearsals on time, last costumes already made and tonight is the night of the still band contest,
00:56also a night of masquerades, so the bands will be shining.
01:00Let's recall that the bands are the groups that are participating in this carnival, sort of like a family.
01:07One of the members was telling us yesterday when we talked to them,
01:12we visited different band camps as they were getting ready for these final competitions, final contests
01:19and they were telling us this idea, the idea that the band at the end of the day is like a family,
01:25like a group supporting each other, thinking about what they are going to do,
01:30thinking about the best way to do it and at the end of the day competing together,
01:35celebrating together, taking part of this carnival that is Vince Aymans.
01:40But let's listen to what one of the members of the band that we were talking to before,
01:47let's listen to what Simone Richardson had to say.
01:52So for this carnival, Blondie Board and Friends, we chose to honor some of our icons of carnival.
02:01We chose to honor persons in the mass, in the music and in the steel band because those three components are what makes up carnival in St. Vincent's and the Grenadines.
02:15Our music, the rhythms of the band section and the courts to go in.
02:21So we are honoring persons like Alston Deckard Cyrus, many would know his name outside.
02:29We are honoring persons like Tani Peters for the band.
02:36We are honoring, even writing our own for the mass, Lennox Bex-Gonzalez with Mirage.
02:44So that's what we chose to do this year, honoring our icons, both past and present.
02:53Simone is not just only a member of Blondie Board and Friends, a renowned band here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,
03:00but also the queen of the band and a queen with very much a lot of experience.
03:05She was telling us about this experience and the importance of the band culture here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
03:14We will continue bringing you a little bit, just images, sounds of what is happening here in Kingstown.
03:21Stay tuned with Tell Us Our English for this.
