00:00And celebrations are ongoing in St. Vincent's and the Grand East in what is known as Vinci
00:15Mass Carnivals, one of the most important celebrations held in the island. Let's go
00:18with our special envoy, the Belén de los Santos, for more updates of this Carnival season. Welcome, Belén.
00:24Hello, Luis. Such a pleasure to be here once again. We're still in St. Vincent and the
00:31Grenadines. You were just saying it. Vinci Mass is underway. It's a complete celebration.
00:37And today's Thursday, so we are really nearing that final weekend. The main events are starting
00:44today, so everyone is already very much excited, prepared, and ready for the final competitions,
00:52the final masquerade, the final party. Everything is getting ready. So let's review a little bit of
00:59what is happening. We were talking yesterday about the cultural importance of Carnival to St. Vincent
01:05and the Grenadines, a unique Caribbean festival and Carnival with its special characteristics. We
01:12were talking about the importance of the cultural rhythms and how Carnival is really a moment,
01:19a place in which the different components of society come here and celebrate that cultural
01:25identity. So that is part of what is happening at this moment. And also, yesterday, we were touring
01:33the Capitol. We were touring Kingstown. And we were looking at and chatting with everyone there.
01:40People were getting ready. They were getting prepared. So we had performers rehearsing their
01:47final runs before their competitions, their performances that are starting today with the
01:53main events and will continue throughout the weekend. Also, we visited a lot of band camps.
02:00These are the sites in which the bands or the groups that participate in the Carnival are getting
02:07ready for the masquerade. They're getting ready for the competition. So every band has its own name,
02:13its own grouping, its own choosing its own ideas and themes for the participation in the Carnival.
02:20They're making their own artisanal costumes. So we visited them. We talked about the importance,
02:27the significance of this moment. And they were all very much excited. But also, and very important,
02:34they were talking about this as a moment to participate and continue the tradition with
02:40younger generations. Many of the people involved in these bands were participating in Carnival from a
02:48very, very young age. And now they're leading their bands and they're leading the costume design
02:53making. And they are doing this with younger people as well, continuing that tradition. So that is a
03:00little bit of what we're leaving here. As the final events, the most important ones are just hours away.
03:09Belen, you were saying that we're on the final stretch of this Carnival season. What specifically is on the
03:14agenda for Thursday this day? What are the special activities that are going to be held this Thursday?
03:19Yes. So today is a very important day. A lot of people have been waiting for it. And a lot of the
03:26preparations and rehearsals that we saw yesterday were particularly for today. Because today is the
03:32still and glitter event. This is a combination of steel band competition and also a masquerade.
03:41So one of the themes was the steel band mid-style. So you have the glitter, the style, the costumes,
03:49so typical of Carnival, but with such a special, unique artisanal essence here in St. Vincent and the
03:56Grenadines. And that is meeting the steel band competition, the percussion, one of the rhythmic
04:03components of this Carnival as well. So that will be tonight. We will be there. We will be recording
04:09everything and sharing it with you and the audience, of course, as well. And before earlier a little
04:15bit in the day, we have the junior edition as well. As we were saying yesterday, all of this also
04:21involves not only the adult competitions, but also the young adult competitions, the kids
04:28competitions who are getting ready in this concert, in the celebrations to participate of the event as
04:35well. So we'll have the junior edition as well. The kids will also be playing their steel bands. And we
04:42will continue to follow everything. It'll definitely be a great, great night.
04:47Thank you, Wilaine. We're going to stay in touch, of course, for a coming news brief to have all the
04:51details of what is happening. And we're going to be paying attention to these big celebrations this
04:55Thursday night. Of course, we'll be in touch.
