00:00Saint Vincent and the Grenadians' renowned carnival is here, and Telesur is up for the ride.
00:06Since May this year, the entire nation has been bracing for a unique event that celebrates the country's heritage,
00:12safeguarding its culture and sharing it with the entire world.
00:19I think the uniqueness of Vincent Mass is really the raw culture for our people.
00:25You're seeing elements of the creativity on display.
00:28And, you know, you will go to other carnivals and you'll have the traditional costumes, yes, you'll have a lot of display.
00:35But when you come to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the experience that you get here,
00:40you will never get an experience like this anywhere else.
00:43And I think, importantly, the people that really makes Vincent Mass what it is.
00:48The locals who are so welcoming to the persons who are coming in to visit.
00:54This week kicked off with a special treat.
00:56The Junior Calypso and Sokka Monarch provides an opportunity for the younger generations to showcase their talent
01:03as they approach these traditional rhythms in which dancing and lyrics come together
01:08to let out the local creativity and powerful vision of the world.
01:12I felt nervous, but when I saw my people supporting me, I just, no.
01:36Lilani, you can't do this.
01:38My favorite part of the performance is when I gave my mommy the rose.
01:43She kissed me.
01:44And I said what I have to say to the crowd.
01:51And it was so beautiful.
01:55Lilani's Calypso was about the love to her mother, to all mothers cheering in the crowd.
02:00The intergenerational exchange is one of the key aspects of this contest,
02:05as adults encourage their kids,
02:07certain that they will carry on the torch of their national culture.
02:15There was so much people.
02:17I know my teachers, my cousins, my brothers, my moms, my dads.
02:23I know they were all looking at me, so that's how I felt.
02:27I felt like there was love in my heart.
02:31We know that our future for Vinci Carnival is bright
02:35because these children are the future Calypstonian and Soka artists.
02:39Emotions are on the rise as Vinci Mass nears its peak weekend
02:50that will end in Mardi Gras celebrations on July 8th.
02:54Meanwhile, everyone continues enjoying main and sideline events
02:57in a party that locals assure is definitely unique.
03:00Belen de los Santos, from Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Granadines, for Telesur.
