00:00Welcome back. As we have been reporting, carnivals are in full celebration in St. Vincent
00:23at the Grandines. Let's go live with our special envoy, Belen de los Santos, to learn more of what
00:27is happening right now. Hello, Belen. Welcome. Hello, Luis. It's a pleasure to be here. It's truly a pleasure
00:34to be at this really a Caribbean paradise that is St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We are very close
00:42to the capital, Kingstown, and we have been reporting that Vincent is underway. The very own
00:48St. Vincent Carnival, very important for this nation, very important for these people who have
00:54been preparing for this, not only in this St. Vincent, the main island, but also in the Grenadines
01:00with different events. Let's recall that officially this is taking place this week and it has started
01:07last week as well, and it will continue until Tuesday when it will end with the Mardi Gras masquerade.
01:15also Monday, we will have a very important two-bird celebration where people celebrate with pains,
01:24and it's a very colorful party that really unites everyone out in the streets. During these days,
01:31before those main events, we are watching and seeing different activities throughout the city and the
01:39different cities. And particularly here in Kingstown, we have a lot of activities and we were focusing on
01:47the cultural relevance and we were saying that a lot has to do with honoring these two musical rhythms
01:54that are the Calypso and Soca. And let's learn a little bit more on these. The Calypso, a traditional
02:02Caribbean rhythm, original from Trinidad and Tobago, and very important in this Caribbean island. It has
02:11its own celebrations here and its own tradition in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. And we were saying that
02:18one of the main events is the selection of the Calypso monarchs as the Soca monarchs. That is,
02:25the best of the best in a competition that is really about showcasing different talents.
02:31And Calypso has this importance of lyrics and social commentary and highlighting the most important
02:39ways of expression. So we've been seeing just the younger kids because as we were commenting before,
02:46yesterday was the junior edition of this competition. So really, really young girls and boys coming out
02:53and speaking of freedom, speaking of love, speaking of the importance of their identity. And that was
02:58really wonderful to see. Also wonderful to see those mothers and fathers celebrating those efforts.
03:05And in the coming days, we'll have the adult editions that everyone here is waiting for. Also Soca,
03:11we were mentioning a rhythm that comes from that Calypso origin, but is mainly focused on the dancing,
03:19a better energetic dancing. That also has to do with the traditions and cultures of the region here,
03:27in particular of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Also, we were speaking to the minister of culture here
03:34in the island. And he was highlighting yesterday the fact that this is not only a local celebration,
03:41although local slay, of course, the most relevant part, but it's also a moment in which Saint Vincent
03:46and the Grenadines shares itself with the region and with the world. So they are inviting people from
03:52across the Caribbean, from South America, from overseas to come here and join them and also use
03:58the opportunity to get to know the island, also the Grenadines and all the different cultural and
04:04natural spaces that it has. So it's a lot of celebration, a lot of parties. We're looking forward
04:10to the steel band competition tomorrow. We're also looking forward to the all white party on Friday.
04:16We'll continue updating you with everything from this beautiful place that is Saint Vincent and the
04:22Grenadines. For now, I go back to you Luis. Thank you Belen for the latest details on these beautiful
04:28and joyful carnivals taking place in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We're going to stay in touch as
04:33as always to have more of what is happening in the Caribbean island.
