29 June - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:04High pressure is really dominating for most of us and we look at the pressure pattern,
00:09we can see that nicely across the UK, however low pressure is still close to the north-west
00:13of the UK, it will give some outbreaks of heavy rain, some stronger winds, particularly
00:18across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland over the next 24 hours or so.
00:22But for most it is all about the temperatures and where the sunshine comes out, temperatures
00:27really rising well above average for the end of June.
00:32So there has been some cloud across particularly England and Wales this morning but through
00:36the afternoon it should continue to lift and break but there will be some parts that stay
00:40cloudy all day.
00:41The cloud could be thick enough for a little bit of drizzle over the hills of Wales, one
00:45or two showers across Northern Ireland up into the Western Isles too, but elsewhere generally
00:49should be dry and as I mentioned where the sunshine comes out, temperatures really rising, mid
00:55to high 20s across central and eastern parts of England in particular towards 31 Celsius in
01:02South East England.
01:04Elsewhere generally under the cloud more like the low 20s, it's still fairly pleasant for
01:08the time of year.
01:11Into this evening time we'll see the risk of further showers across Northern Ireland,
01:14some rain pushing across Orkney and Shetland but otherwise it's generally dry and then overnight
01:19the cloud thickens again to give some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle across some western
01:24high ground and the risk of further showers across the far North West into the early hours
01:29as well.
01:30But generally much of England and Wales should be seeing clear skies but with high humidity
01:34levels temperatures really not dropping despite those clear skies, 16 to 18 Celsius, one or
01:40two spots perhaps even remaining above 20 Celsius.
01:44Something a little fresher across the far North East of Scotland there but combined with some
01:48showers passing through.
01:51So it's a bright start across England and Wales, there should be more sunshine to start Monday
01:54morning compared to each morning over the weekend but thicker cloud across the North West
01:59of the UK.
02:00This is going to introduce some heavy rain across Northern Ireland into North West Scotland
02:05as we move through the day, it could be some localised flooding as the rain could turn
02:09quite torrential in places so it is worth staying up to date with the latest forecast.
02:13Elsewhere across Scotland the risk of one or two showers, the cloud increasing but across
02:18much of England and Wales there should be lengthy sunny skies, just some low cloud perhaps lingering
02:23around some coasts particularly in the west and then the cloud bubbling up as the temperatures
02:28rise into the afternoon and temperatures more widely high 20s, low 30s reaching 34 Celsius
02:35possibly a little higher towards the south east something we will keep a close eye on something
02:41a little fresher across Northern Ireland into North West Scotland under cloud and heavy rain.
02:46But still temperatures approaching the mid 20s in any sunshine across Aberdeenshire.
02:51Into the evening time with the heat of the day we could see one or two thunderstorms developing
02:56across parts of the Midlands, eastern England but these will be very isolated, most places
03:00will be dry and the rain continues to push eastwards across Northern Ireland and Scotland
03:05but it should start to lose its intensity a little bit.
